Poll for Women Only *ADULT*
Morsaille replied to DeLarla's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm so sorry Jenna! I can't think of anything real to suggest. All the things I've heard (like set the alarm, schedule a play-date, or schedule a play-date) just don't hold up or seem realistic in the real world. You've got to be able to get a little before summer!! What happens if someone calls in sick - not that I am suggesting such an irresponsible action, but aren't you sick? Sick of not getting any lovin'? -
I guess I had it pretty easy. I didn't have gas pain like the other 90%. I had plenty of gas though. I wasn't much fun the day after. I was pretty uncomfortable. Just shifting around to get standing was difficult. I didn't bend over for a week. It was a little more painful than my C-section. I described the first week to my family by saying that it felt like I bought an expensive car, then crashed it. I spent all that money and only got hurt. I don't regret it because I know that the only way to get where I want to be is by working with the band. I am learning to love my band.

Thanks One Gone Dog! Will definitely check out Chebli before dishing out $300+ worth of commitment.

Want an idea? Go to Amazon and look up "menstruation". Several books come up for first timers including discussion guides for parents. We are very lucky to be raising daughters in a time when the the subject of our bodies is no longer strictly taboo. Lucky for me, I still have 6+ years to go. When I first started my period we (my mother and I) had a "Woman's Day". We went out for a nice lunch and to a movie. Consider a spa day... Even though I thought I always wanted boys, I am very glad to have a girl. Just think of all the money I am saving on hospital bills...(silly, reckless, boys!)

Ha - you got felt up by the TSA! I am sure it wasn't personal, if it was she'd have cared about your port. I was so disturbed when I had my fill because I was just sure I knew exactly where it was. From day one I believed it was directly under my port incision. It stuck out a little, bruised hideously, and I was positive I could feel it. I can still feel a port shaped piece of scar tissue, I know it isn't the port because my port is essentially on my waistline about 4 inches to the left of my navel. I saw where they stuck the needle. Weird. I suppose it is better than the sternum placement. My best friend who got banded first has a sternum port that sticks out and looks a little goofy (she has lost SO much weight).

Talk to your fill doc ASAP! some docs charge less for adjustments made within a week of your fill date. Find out before you get stuck paying full price. (Like I'm gonna...)

Congrats Diane! I am just going to wait awhile before I hop on THAT bandwagon. It sounds too good to be true ~ and things that sound to good to be true...

Hey Ryan! Welcome much and all the rest! Glad to hear you are feeling better. I hope you like the group, we are pretty sweet for the most part *winks all around*

Pregnancy okay at 4 months post-op?
Morsaille replied to StephanieRaye's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was kind of leaning towards "sure, why not?" But definitely discuss with your health care team. If they are insisting you wait... use the extra 8 months to plan the nursery, pick out names, save for college and do all the things that parents stress over in the last 2 months of pregnancy. Read, get excited, shop for an OB, and get yourself healthy. I was really big when I was pregnant with my daughter (now 2). I always wanted to be smaller so I could wear the cute maternity clothes and go swimming. I did teach myself to knit, and my first project took a good month. Still can't crochet... And another advantage to waiting... if you get in good with a lap band support group that is just one more baby shower! -
I thought of a craving killer! Ice, I keep party ice in the freezer for times when I am not hungry, but my mouth feels empty and mischievous. It's crunchy, keeps my tongue busy and the cold kind of numbs the tastebuds. Plus it helps with getting my water in. Then again, with my recent plateau (cake) you shouldn't take anything I say too seriously this week.

Since Dr. Neal (pacsurgical) got fluoroscopy up and running his fills have jumped to $350 per fill, $150 for alterations within a week of fill date. Ouch! Not bashing him since we all love our surgeons, just saving the office staff phone/email time answering this question for everybody. NWWLS told me that they do not do fills for MX patients. I understand the Doctors Fox do take MX patients, but I think they do blind fills. This last part could be wrong...

Tylenol makes a liquid for adults, it tastes like cough syrup and is so much easier than hacking up a sticky tablet that got stuck. Eeeew. I use the Centrum chewables because they contain trace minerals. Flintstones or gummies usually do not and just have way too much sugar for me to feel good about. Besides who wants to try to do the converison math? Luck to you Dody!

endoscopic62 says he is in Bulgaria, so cancel your flights hopeful bandsters.

Thank you Dr. Pleatman for letting us know about this. I will make a call or two as well and hopefully we can create enough of a nuisance to encourage people to do the right thing. *cue hokey superhero theme music*

Hopefully I got enough punctuation that I didn't offend any innocents on the index page. I am flustered, and just generally in a state of nastiness because I joined the GfGC (Gone for Good Club) on March first, right? Wanted to do something nice for myself, responsible, right? Well this damn cake is sitting on the bottom of my fridge. A HUGE Costco cake with happy little blue flowers all over it! It has been there since the 28th of Feb. and isn't getting much smaller. I'd throw it out but its not mine and I am trying to instill a love of Birthdays in my husband who is a reformed JW. I hate it! I go for a nice glass of tea, or for some milk, or even my fat-free chicken salad I made from scratch and I see this pastry from hell sitting there looking SO innocent! Anyone want some cake, its really good... OK this is just a rant, but c'mon... How is that for timing. The last three days have been so hard. I hope the rest of March is less difficult. Really, if you want some cake, just let me know...

Having been a mandatory reporter (human services field) for so many years my opinion is that you should continue to call *WHEN* 1) You hear anything that sounds like abuse. 2) Your neighbors are being disruptive and a nuisance after 10 pm. 3) You are feeling afraid for your safety, tell the person you are calling whether it is the dispatcher or CPS. Call for the threats if you feel the need, just don't allow children to be harmed. Spanking can still be justified some of the time, but beatings cannot. At a certain point it becomes your responsibility to act. Act on the side of caution.

Donna, I wanted to warn you about the headache, but it sounds like you have already discovered it. It gets a lot worse, but should be on its way out by late tomorrow (today?). That is just what happens when you break the carb addiction. The diet gets easier when your head stops aching. Are you on the low-carb diet? Or just liquids?

I hated it and am so glad I wasn't foolish enough to buy mine! I am with Marcus. My teeth and jaw hurt every morning. I was jaw clenching while my nose was doing the breathing. My insurance only paid for the testing and two months rental fees. Luckily, that was all the time I needed to get the diagnosis on my medical record and decide I didn't want to use CPAP ever again. Even though ins. wouldn't cover WLS, having the OSA diagnosis will allow me to write-off surgery and fills on my taxes. I have only lost 25 pounds, but my DH says that I have not snored for the last two weeks. Yay! So, my advice Kelli? Since you are post-op, you probably won't need it for more than a year. Rent until you know if you'll like it. You cannot E-Bay medical equipment. Aargh!

Oooh, and Dawg. It is aways wonderful to see someone who knows and can recite the 'Man's Prayer'

Hey Everyone ~ My name is Brenda, I live in WA just outside of Seattle with my Husband of two years who I met in a National Service program 11 years ago in Denver (at 170#), and my two year old daughter, Soren who is my joy, my heart, and my legacy. I have gained weight steadily since being placed on my first "diet" at eight years old, my dear old dad thought he knew best... I was not overweight at the time and I hope that my genes lean toward thinness for Soren's sake. I weighed 265# my Senior year of High School. Before our daughter, I was a Mental Health Counselor with the county and a volunteer National Responder with the Red Cross completing twelve assorted floods, fires, tornado/hailstorms, and air-crashes (9/11). Now, I look forward to starting the garden later this month. The digits: S~ 312 J~ 287 G~ 180

Pat- I use rubbing alcohol on all my electronics. The moisture evaporates almost instantly and the grime comes off as quickly as using soap & water. No streaks! I have a 2 year old and clean my TV and monitor at least once/week. This also works for the keyboard. Get some cheap swabs and a big chunk of time... Magic Erasers are the best. Here's an idea for the sink again- is the problem discoloration on the drain? If you are looking to impress (short term beauty) try brasso on a really dry drain. It removes tarnish like those black or green splotches on the non-stainless steel part.

Shower doors? You know what really works incredibly? Lighter fluid... You have to clean it all off, but it works like an eraser on nastiness in general. It works for stickers and decals too (you have to score the vinyl ones though) Do not use on plastics or paint because it can remove finishes.

Does it look nicer when it's wet? Once I was housesitting for someone while they were selling their house. Before a showing, I would rub a small amount of cooking oil into the metal with a paper towel. Gleaming gorgeousness...

 <--- I just died laughing! You should be more careful next time. -
Thanks TommyO and Wheetsin! Love these posts. I didn't get the difference between effect/affect until working in Mental Health, and then only after a lot of struggle. Some people (me) I guess. And raise a CARCASS? HA! I sympathize with the posters who defend grammar and spelling issues. Dyslexia - no big. I am happy to read everyones posts.
