To Fill or Not to Fill?

Sharilynn- If you don't have issues eating alone, but PB when you dine with company, maybe it's your focus. I know if I am putting my attention anywhere other than my mouth while I am eating, I am much more likely to take bigger bites or swallow too early. I just haven't mastered it yet. It could just be the old culprits taking advantage of you when you are distracted. Maybe you are constantly irritated from the vomitting... Have you taken a couple days off from solids? All review I am sure, but food for thought? Brenda

    de-banded and feeling better!

Happy Birthday Doc! It's good having you around. Wish you'd consider a practice in... say... Seattle?

To Fill or Not to Fill?

YAY!!! Congrats on the fill Kim! Feeling good? I'll be gurgling soon, my fill is scheduled for Monday! Woo Hoo! Found a local-ish doc who only charges $250 for the first and $200 for subsequent fills. Going to post this discovery on my local page. I was so excited I got the receptionist laughing. One more for the road... Woo Hoo!!

    The Gone for Good Club

OK, putting a positive spin on things because I have been a banded saint this week, honestly. I gained two pounds of muscle, it HAD to be muscle, then lost a pound of fat! Total for this week: +1 But I am still smiling. Scheduling a fill today!

    feeling full

I am not a man, but I am post-op AND previously a volume eater. After banding full feels different. Very different. But hunger feels different too. When I get hungry now, it is without the pain and nausea I used to experience. I think that pre-op hunger was withdrawal... Now when I get hungry, it is without the urgency or cravings and I can make healthier choices for myself. The highs from being FULL will be gone, but I don't miss them, yet. I am hoping that when I lose some more weight, my quality of life will give me my highs.
  6. I haven't had a problem, yet (it's still early). My husband however sweats CONSTANTLY. He tried Certain Dry(Dri?) last week and has been mostly dry all the time. He doesn't smell bad though. Maybe Paula has something and you should switch from Secret.

What do you do for a living?

Three years ago I was a Mental Health Counselor for the county (clinician of the year hold your applause please), I went on long national disaster assignments with the Red Cross - twelve total (I've done some famous ones), and I always wanted to have an herb garden. :humble: Then, we got pregnant and I decided to stay home with my DD now 2. I fingerpaint, scrapbook, watch Barney, and I am going to have one heck of a garden this year (I'm adding blueberries, rhubarb, sunflowers, and a "salad patch"). Mommyhood is pretty good work, if you can get it. The money sucks, but my little slice of immortality is quite the benefits package.

    Painful Fill???

My first fill was an ordeal for me. It kind of hurt. Not the needle so much, but the poking, rolling, pinching, pressing, and prodding was a little much. I felt kind of beat up when it was all over. My doc was training a new technician and first one, then the other had to find my port through my portliness. I hope it gets easier and that was with fluoro. I was so tense that I only got half the amount they thought I should have. Nothing was going down. The barium sat there like a rock. My next fill will be blind. With luck I'll get some lidocaine. Good stuff, I remember it from my C-section. Like a bee sting, a good bee sting, cold, sharp, and keeps you from feeling the needles so big they could be straws.

    can you feel it?

The hard place under your breasts is called a sternum. Just kidding... The band is stitched into place so it can't shift around casually, in slippage events you usually have to apply some kind of force. I am pretty new and I swore that I could feel unnatural pulling from time to time. I just told myself that everything was getting used to the new gear and eventually everything in there would make friends with everything else. Yup, it's all friendly in there now.
  10. :) :yell: :) :dizzy: :loco:  :faint2: :welldone: :lovechoc: :dead :rip: I haven't used many smilies lately. I went through all of them looking for one that said "you are being an idiot" in a nice way. This is the best I could find. Take your time, (deep breath) reflect, (deep breath) if you get in an accident THATS when they steal your stuff... And in case I forgot to say it... just look at the smilies!

To Fill or Not to Fill?

Thanks ladies for the posts, thanks to Tilly for the real life guidelines. This will be really useful for me. I am just worried about mornings. The only time I have restriciton is in the AM. If I get a fill, will I be "sealed" until 3 pm or is this just paranoia? Nevermind, I can do AM shakes like everyone else. I prefer 'em to breakfast anyway. Luck on your fill tomorrow Kim. Heres hoping we both give up on breads by the end of March. And thanks for letting me share your thread.

To Fill or Not to Fill?

Definitely let me know how it goes! :gluck: I will schedule one soon and then we will both be back on track. If I wanted to be able to eat as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted, I would never have been banded.

    A question for after surgery

I loved the walking! I paced the halls the day of surgery and took some real walks the day after. It got the gas to disperse quickly and didn't hurt. It was the sitting down and standing up that smarted. Congrats Wheetsin on the thirty-two pounds! Whoa! I was a dress gal too. Slip-on shoes are a good idea. I skipped on my loose jogging pants post op because the band was over two of my five incisions. So pack options. My favorite dress I found at HolyClothing, they do quite a bit of business on eBay. Some of the dresses are kind of creepy, but my favorite was the sleeveless. It layers well and is really soft. Lots of luck and good thoughts Dody.

To Fill or Not to Fill?

Thanks Kim! Looking forward to reading LOTS of responses. Thanks for the post P'nut. Here's hoping I'm not a Turtle (not that there is anything wrong with Turtles, they are the most wonderful people on here!!) Kinda bummed that I have gained two pounds (hopefully muscle) after all the gardening and moving my treadmill into the living room. My diabolical plan ~ exposed...

To Fill or Not to Fill?

ME TOO KIM!!!! I get a golfball about once a week and "restriction" about twice per week. I am following every rule with the exception of quantity consumed. Very eager to see someone reply to this. I am in the exact same boat right now so hand me an oar.

    Is This True?

Doctor Pleatman started a thread awhile back about bands being sold on eBay. They were expired and the two highest bidders were in Bulgaria and the Dominican Republic. These bidders purchased only surgical equipment on eBay, scary. Some even appeared to be for veterinary use. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14864&highlight=pleatman I am thinking that this US doc was trying to protect his patient supply by instilling fear of going over the border for medical treatment. Still, choose a good doc with a clean record. Someone recognized by Inamed if getting an Inamed band (important if you ever want a US fill).

    Suggestion For Adult Board

Sorry Kylie if I offended. I am very glad you opted for the band instead of the other surgeries. I have a problem with WLS in the young because I deeply believe that not only is anatomy still shifting and evolving, but behavior and emotions too. Most of my band issues are emotional in nature and I know that I would not have been able to "handle it" whan I was fifteen. I am glad you are progressing toward your goals and doing everyting you can to be healthy and happy. Thank you for replying to my post, I needed to hear it. My question is... how did you find it? Are you supposed to be on this thread? What do you think? Do we need a locked area, or are clear titles enough? I know fifteen isn't nearly as young as it used to be. Have you been shocked or offended by anything you've found here?

Surgical recovery times and hair color

I'm a natural red. I have never heard the thing about easy recovery, but when I had my C-section, I had lots of bleeding. The nurses told me that they had known all along I'd be a bleeder because of my red hair. In fact, my tonsillectomy was more expensive because they wanted me to have an extra anesthesiologist around because of my hair color (just in case). I think people just LOVE making generalizations and since its not OK to point out religion or ethnicity anymore... Did you know Catholics are 20% more likely to be hit by lightning?

    Do you swallow?

Along the same lines as the other dirty minded folks... I thought it was a liquid protein suggestion. (shaking head in shame) I do not mean to make light of your difficulties, but the thread name was just asking for hecklers. I truly hope all is fine with your band and that your problems are transitory. Lots of luck.

    Food getting stuck?

I have PB'd once because something a little too big went around my tongue and got swallowed. I had only had three small bites, so I am assuming the band "knew" this piece was too big. I felt instantly "full!" and began salivating, a lot. I knew something was wrong so I decided to watch the drain in my sink for awhile. Before long, I had a weak kind of gag/burp that brought up the offending tidbit, darn undercooked broccoli. It was so small and innocently gross. It went right down the drain no problem! What the heck! I was lucky from reading the other stories. Look up StrawartS post on the PB from hell for more info.

    Dr Aceves or Dr Kuri

I am just another happy Kuri patient. I understand DeLarla has a Kuri-related complication. You might want to talk with her. From what I understand, his record is incredibly good. There are so many Kuri patients here! His new hospital is gorgeous (I think I may have been the first band surgery there). He only uses Inamed bands which is VERY important if you want a US fill. I haven't heard anything on Dr. Aceves, sorry.

    ot:how to find a hotty!!

I know this sounds a little creepy, but anytime a woman speaks to a man the man interprets this as flirting. You ask the time... he hears..."she wants me" So congratulations, you are probably a flirt already. As soon as you are comfortable talking with strangers, a relationship can surface. Smiles are just more sincere and less sneer. If you find a relationship before you are comfortable with social situations, chances are you have found someone who may try to take advantage... (or a really great guy who is not social either) Have fun! Oh, and Red lipstick helps too. disclaimer: the above is strictly my opinion, but I am a verified flirt from way back and ANYONE who knows and/or loves me would tell you the same. Lots of Luck at Love (or at least Lust)

    Suicidal thoughts with obesity?

I can honestly say that I never considered suicide an option for me, BUT in the months and years leading up to WLS my attachment to life has significantly lessened and I questioned my value as opposed to my life insurance policy. Let's see... Mom on the couch doing her best Jabba imitation... or... a full scholarship at the college of your choice? WLS is my way of saying to myself that I refuse to invite the diseases that will bring about my early death. I love my family too much (and myself as well for that matter).
  25. Oh, that's right you do the houses - Ugh Ooh, take him to Lowes and tackle him in the Garden Center! Then you can get a copy of the surveillance video and watch it, whenever..
