PBS special "The Mormons" made me furious!

I understand the desire to distance oneself from the rash actions perpetrated by a small faction of an organization. I, myself, am not too proud of the anti-American behaviors of our current administration. :yield:

PBS special "The Mormons" made me furious!

Wanna have a little fun? Ask about the "Adam God" concept where if a couple is married in the Temple, live a righteous life and judged worthy; they are given a world to govern. I loved learning some of the differences between the LDS nad RLDS church when I was a member. The R stands for Reorganized and are officially non-Mormon, although the lineage is similar.
  3. A few thoughts, please don't hold them against me if you are reading this, please? Medieval Christians had faith to gain (or retain) security, the church WAS the government. Illiteracy guaranteed that the spiritual information remained relatively untainted and flowed in one direction only. The message was essentially -"Your suffering is very important to us, God sees everything, will vanquish our enemies, smite those that hurt you, and reward you for your faithful labors in Heaven. Please do not take actions of retribution on your own behalf. Get back to work now gentle taxpayer." The literate, liberated Christians have a much more 'do-it-yourself' approach to religion. Everyone has 'personal Savior', and faith is more to distinguish the superior, "Saved" individuals. The Old Testament has been disregarded by the newer Christians as outmoded and violent. I do not disagree, but to just set it aside because it calls for a stoning or two kind of leaches some of the credibility from the church. Sorry, that was a little facetious. A friend of mine called the modern Christian churches 'the modern day Pharisees' (NOT ME, never me) because faith has become so commercialized, so mainstream, that belonging to a church is more about social climbing than personal faith. Ideas that are different are immediately shunned, labeled sin, or tagged as having come from a 'false prophet'. That.. and what WASaBubble Butt said, Pascal's Wager. I am an Atheist. I wish I had the ability to believe in Deit/y/ies. I'd find myself a nice, nature-based faith in three seconds flat. HEY LUCY!! HEY YOU ALL!!
  4. I had a boyfriend years back who did use 'Fargo-isms', so did his entire family. They were all from Minnesota. I used to adore talking with his family. Not so crazy about him, though.
  5. Love is weakness, and there are always those looking to turn a profit on someones weakness. Or even recover monies spent over past years. Sad thing is, if a child isn't adopted, the agency could just try and pad the fee for other adoptions to externalize costs - like at the pound. I agree, being able to provide should be enough. Sorry for the moody post. I need to find some happier subscribed threads. I hear the penis thread was hoppin'.
  6. ...or maybe she is left-brained...
  7. If I couldn't talk about sex and politics, I'm pretty sure I'd have almost nothing to say. Even though my politics are more in line with Laurend, Green, and BJean; I am thrilled to see you back here Funny! I guess I just love me a little conflict from time to time. :heh:

It is probably a little easier since most docs have their own unique way of getting it done. My doc puts the port low and on the left barely above waistline. My friend has hers at her sternum. There are hundreds of sites and depths in between. The needle is a big'un (Huber non-coring). Luckily the abdomen isn't all that sensitive, especially with a little nerve damage post-op. Many of us have reduced sensation around the port and port incision. I barely feel the needle - even if I concentrate.

how to avoid band slips & erosion

I went looking for it, but couldn't find it. Last year there was a thread about this. Someone (it may have been Wheetsin, but I am not sure) quoted the Inamed handbook and page # where it said that the band was never intended to be a lifetime device. I did find this thread that discusses the bands durability: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=24476&highlight=intended+inamed+life+device

My best friend gets her fills with Dr. Fox and has had incredible success and no problems whatsoever. She is at 'normal weight' and has been for a few years now. The hardest part about blind fills (I've had both) is that a good fill relies on your ability to feel adequate restriction. You also get a few more needle sticks going blind. I'm a fluoro (Dr. Neal) girl because I have spasm issues and tighten during a fill. The fluoro helps - at the bargain price of $375 sheesh. Just pick your surgeon on skill, and your comfort level. If you have to, you can shop around for fills. Kitty Carmichael does a bargain fill for shallow ports in Arlington for around $125 (?).

    Sweating less?

I've only lost around fifty pounds and I sweat much less. Probably a combination of being less self-conscious and wearing less clothing. Welcome to the band, Robgoblin :girl_hug:

Regarding sex after a little weight loss...

Communication, love. I am sure I would be in the same situation were I still dating. Luckily, I know roughly what to expect every time. Every time. Do you know the birth control methods of your potential partners? Have you discussed your anxiety? There are lots of other ways to enjoy yourselves that will help you to relax. Try oral... Very relaxing.

I loved this! Posting just to subscribe. Thanks Carlene.

You should also check out Dr. Neal in Olympia. I get my fills done at his office since he is the only doc with a fluoroscope (live action x-ray for better restriction). I had my band done in Mexico with Dr. Kuri, but have heard great things from Dr. Neal's patients, plus, he has lots of experience.
  15. I <3 you too, Carlene.

    ...says all the 3's, 4's, and 5's... *sniff*winks*

    Rep Power:

I think I just figured it out. You can add to someones 'rep' if you want. Some people were getting upset with the advice they were getting from unknown bandsters. With 'rep' power, the trusted bandsters are easier to identify. I had been wondering for the last hour...
  18. That being said, I am glad that he SC upheld the ban - partial birth abortions are just a little too much for me. At that point, there has been plenty of time to make a choice.
  19. to take Wheetsins post just a little step further. The uninformed new bandsters that pop-in are typically self-pay bandsters who did not have insurance or insurance coverage for the procedure. Most will take the initiative to educate themselves, but often the insurance journey is a huge source of education for us. It would make sense that the same thing would happen with abortion - just a little - right? Legislation is a hoop-jumping education. Illegality is a dark and dangerous path to the same end. I am pro-choice, but I have second thoughts about squishing spiders. It's life for this bod.

    Numbness after Banding? Severed Nerves??

I have regained some feeling in my numb-zones. I have a lower zone form my c-section, too. I was curious if these are altered by plastic surgery later on. On the bright side, fills are downright pleasant. Welcome to the club!
  21. I have 'Tool ring-tones', I think they meant cool - can you imagine having your phone pop off with 'cordless drill' or 'reciprocating saw'? I also have ads for John McCain and one for our illustrious shrub. Pretty sure that the ads are chosen by keywords. Shame, I wanted to find out if I was stupid, too.

    Ponder this...

To be in love by yourself is a wasting disease. You really don't mind it, but to give all that time, attention and energy to someone who doesn't give in return will eventually kill you; your soul can starve. Devotion is different than love - it is a religion of sorts. The lyric, IMO, was 'right' in that LOVE is self-sustaining. Obsession is dangerous.
  23. I am here, but my cousin wouldn't come near a thread with this title... well, ever - for anything. Since I am the person who 'introduced' you all to my stupid cousin, I could hardly take exception to any of you drawing the same conclusion. I've tried to fix stupid, and it just isn't happening. I am thrilled that I haven't been getting hate mails for my 'cut & paste', but saddened by the incredibly lame attempt to defend 'trickle-down economics'. Reagan? Seriously? ...if we make the rich, richer, wait, make that A LOT richer - maybe they might share a little bit with the middle and lower classes when they feel like it... Brilliant! Now that is good government! <- sarcasm, 396 Carlene, BJean & Green - Thanks for the kudos, I've enjoyed the heck out of many a post written by you fine ladies. I especially love the pro-socialist atmosphere I see reflected in some of Green's posts. Great work!
  24. True, but what a lovely choir it is!
