alternatives to protein shake?
whygirl replied to mhanft's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing happend to me, but during the pre-op phase. I started mixing mine with Lactaid skim milk, I am not lactose intollerant but since switching, I haven't had the gas issues. Could be worth a try! -
Did anyone gain a pound or two back after initial loss?
whygirl replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Cookie Baby. Yes, that exact thing happend to me. I had lost 7.5 lbs on the liquid sage post op, I was then moved to mushies and when I went to the Dr. a week later I had gained 2lbs! I just didn't get it when I was eating next to nothing, how could it be? Some replies to my thread said that perhaps I was not eating enough calories. I'm doing okay now, eating regular foods and not needing a fill yet? I am loosing, slowly but I wont know offically until I go back to the Dr. next month. I know how you feel I was pretty low after that 2 lb gain, I was trying so hard to follow all the rules to the T! Things will get better! Our bodies are adjusting! -
Gaining weight after banding and looking for a lap band meeting in Sacramento
whygirl replied to Jeanne E's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jeanne! The exact thing happend to me! At my first post surgial appt, I had lost 7 and 1/2 lbs. Was started on soft/mushy went back after another week and had gained 2 lbs! I couldn't understand how that could happen when I was eating next to nothing ( I had posted a question about it last week if you want to check it out.) It was suggested that I wasn't getting enough calories. I'm now on solids and go back to the dr next week. Guess I'll see what happens! Good luck to you! -
Okay, I just returned home from my 2nd post op appt. ( banded Jan 12th) and I gained 2 lbs! How can this be when I'm eating next to nothing! My Dr. has his pt's on full liquids day 2 after surgery and then soft/mushy foods for the week after that. So last Wednesday I started mushy foods. I have a protein drink for breakfast, a 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of either tuna salad, chicken salad, or egg salad for lunch that I make with low fat hellmans mayo a little salt and pepper and a sprinkle of onion powder. I'd eat that around 12 or 12:30 and not be hungry until around 6pm. Then i'd have either another 1/2 c to 3/4 cup of cottage cheese w/ blended peaches or one of the salads I pre-made for my lunch at work. I have yet to eat a snack! I'm walking on the treadmill or riding my bike for at least 30 mins a day! At my appt. today I am to move to regular solid foods. I'm so worried I'm going to gain at this stage too! The PA told me that it is expected in the mushy stage as most mushy foods are higher in calories, but seriously! What am I doing wrong??! :cursing: I am so bummed! Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I just can't tell you how dissappointed I was/am after today's appointment. I'll keep watch on the calories, I wasn't told to do that or stay within any range, just portion size and protein first, veggies then if i have room I can have the starch. Thanks again everyone.

Cleo's - sorry i may have not made it clear, I was on full liquids for a week, and started soft mushy foods on the 21st of Jan.

Did you tell co-workers?
whygirl replied to Minnah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't tell any of my co-workers, or any of my extended family. I just took a week vacation. Some asked how my vacation went and if I did anything etc. The weather here was awful the week of my vacation so I just said with the weather, I stayed home and caught up on a few things. No one really questioned me about it. It's a personal decision. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. -
Post op diet from my Dr.
whygirl replied to Aries32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Aries - Yes, my Dr, has me on full liquids, I go for my first post-op appt this coming Wednesday. I will then go on soft/mushies for a week, then regular food. I was surprised too, I thought I be on clear liquids for a week then full liquids, puree, soft, then regular. I must say at this point, I'm glad l will be eating something soon, even if it is a "mushy"! :wink2: Take Care! -
Hello Everyone! I'm so happy! I finally have my band! I had my surgery this past Monday. I'm a little sore in the the belly area but all is going well so far. I'm trying to get all my fluids in and my 3 8oz. liquid meals in. Does anyone have any suggestions on quick and tasty liquid meals? I'm on full liquids and have had protein drinks and blended soups, I don't know what to try beyond that, its kinda hard thinking of different ways to get in my protein. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone Being Banded in November???
whygirl replied to Lcubed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No longer a November bandster. I'm not all healed up yet, so my surgery was rescheduled for January. I'm kinda bummed today, afterall today was to be my surgery day. I know my time will come, I'm healing more and more every day. It has been what seems like forever, but it's only about the size of a quarter now. Please continue to pray for my healing and I too, shall pray for all of you that your surgeries go well and that you all are great successes! -
Welcome! Best of luck to you.

Anyone Being Banded in November???
whygirl replied to Lcubed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lcubed, I'm tenatively scheduled for November 10th also. It was the 3rd of November, but moved to the 10th. If all heals ( please see my previous posts ) I will finally be an official bandster! My healing has been slow, but I am improving. Let's hope after November 10th we can swap surgery stories! -
A simple hello will be sufficient
whygirl replied to CountryGirlNY's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi CountryGirlNY. I know what you mean - some of my posts do not get many replies either. I still put them out there, perhaps someone can relate. Hope all goes well for you! -
Welcome Caryn! Best of luck to you!

Hello Everyone! Got a call from the surgeon's office yesterday, I'm approved! I'm happy to say I have a tenative surgery date of November 3rd. Why so late you may be asking, let me give you the reason why. While I was doing my 6 month pre-op I decided on breast reduction surgery. In late July I had around 7 lbs removed total. Unfortunately a small infection developed which caused stress on the already tight skin. The infection cleared up, but has left an open wound that a 4x4 gauze pad just covers.:tongue2: There is new skin growth starting to cover the area, :scared2: but it's very slow in getting better. ( 7 weeks tomorrow) It must heal completly before surgery. If it should somehow get better quickly, they will move my date up. If it doesn't I'll have to push the date even later. Here I thought I'd be having it done this month! I don't regret having the breast reduction, even with this huge open wound, it is great having all that weight removed and I no longer have to order a extended cup size that never really fit anyway. (40H to 40C) Plus,it was all covered by insurance where breast lifts are not. I am praying for this to heal quickly and without any more complications so that I may finally be an offical bandster!! Thanks for reading, sorry for such a long post.

Congratulations, Monica, on your upcoming surgery. I'm a newer member, not many posts yet. I am getting pretty close, all of my required dr's appts have been completed and I have already met with the dietition and the exercise consult is done! Next week I met with the psych dr. and then I'll have to wait for insurance approval. I'm both excited and nervous as I'm guessing you are too. Best wishes, I hope all goes well for you.

Froggi, Thats great!! Very happy for you! BTW I'm @ 13 lbs lost to date also!

Practicing for the Band
whygirl replied to sistasassy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Teri! Yes, I too have been practicing. I'm trying out a few Protein shakes/drinks to see which ones I like and want to start stocking up for pre and post surgery liquid stage. I'm thinking about ordering the samples on the unjury site. Chewing forever is hard for me to get. I know I have to get better at that. It's hard. Someone at support group said not to wait too long to eat when your hungry, as you tend to eat faster because your starving. And some tips I read here were to put your fork down in between bites. I even read to use small children's silverware so you can't fit much food on it. I haven't tried these tips yet, but I'll probably try them out. Good luck to us all during these pre-band months.
