  1. I got the word yesterday from my surgeon my CT scan of my liver shows no damage and I am negative for portal hypertension. He said if I had portal hypertension that he would not operate on me. So, I'm in! Onward and upward! I'm down 30 pounds as of today and I'm 29 days out from surgery. This is a great day!

When the doctor did the upper endoscopy, he found my liver pressing on my stomach more than what he usually sees in someone my size. He thought that my liver may be enlarged due to a condition called portal hypertension. This is a condition where the liver does not have enough blood flow and it gets localized high blood pressure within the liver. This causes vascularity in the arteries feeding the liver and they can cause excessive bleeding if nicked during surgery. He told me that if I had portal hypertension, he would not operate.

He said that the CT scan and blood tests did not find any issues with my liver so the surgery is on!

Forgive me. I neglected to notice that you aren't post-op. Wow. This was an important result. I can't imagine being told that I might have a condition that would make me a risky candidate for surgery. I looked up your surgery date. Sep 6th. Does your doctor require a pre-surgery liquid diet?

Yes, he does. I have a four-week pre-op diet but I started it about two weeks early. I am limited to 800 calories a day.
