Help! I have had my band since 2008... I had 1 total unfill in 2010 due to a possible slip. After 5 or 6 months (I have a 10cc band), my doctor finally refilled my band to 5.5cc the end of dec 2010. My symptoms were, bad heartburn all day and night, vomiting, bad night cough... Well as of 2 weeks ago I have been just fine..I have not had any refills since 2010. Now all of a sudden I only have a night cough, but i notice that I'm eating and going to bed, around 2am I start to cough. I also take nexium for reflux which works for me... Should I try not eating and going to bed ???? For over 2 years this did not bother me... Don't want a unfill.... I had a ct scan a few months ago by my gas doctor ( had a problem with stomach muscle pain, which is now gone)..and my band was fine..help please...

I'm a 2008 bander.. I'm having some pretty bad back issues/pain, and my Doctor(back Specialist) advised me to take Prednisone for 1 week to help with relieve of the inflammation in my low back.. Now I know we banders can not do anti-inflammatory meds. Which the jury is still out on if steroids are somewhat like anti- inflammatory meds.....Called my lapband Doctor and he said it was ok!!! Well, I would like to hear from real bander folks!!! and if anyone has used steroids for a short period of time and if had any problems... Thanks!!!! My other option is therapy and tramadol for pain.. Of course this method will take longer time for my back to heal..... Help!!!

Thanks so much... Going on day 2 with my meds and so far so good.. Feeling a little better already.. I think! lol

Gowalking/ I have not had a fill in over a year now. I still have fluid in my band... I just wanted to make sure that any treatment I need would not hurt my band... Thanks for your help!!! I started my steroid treatment today 60 mg for for 1 week... Just a little worried:(

I was banded in 2008, doing ok. Had a couple I fills due to acid reflux.. I now have a back issue and My specialist wanted to give me a weeks worth of steroids by mouth.. I know we can not do anti inflammatory meds. Can we do steroids??? I need some relieve with my back pain!!! Help... -
Well, I know I should not do this, but I have not been waiting more than an hour, some nights after a meal I go right to bed... 10 15 mins later.... I know that is a bad habit....

I once was told in 2008 when I got my band that you could never take anti-flam meds, like aleve.. Then about 2 years ago I hear that you could... Which is true????

Hello, got my lapband 9-2008, only 1 slip in 2011, doctor suggested an unfill totally for 4 months.. At that time I felt must better. But, I gained almost 20 pounds back... In 2012 he started to refill me very slowly... Over time I lose the weight and a little more.. I feel great now. But, I noticed this week when I was looking at my stomach, and felt the port area(incision) I could not feel the port!!!! It's like it has moved up about a inch or so...I know with age(55) gravity takes place..lol... No problems with night cough or anything, I still have restriction... Has anyone with the lapband long term had this issue????
-
Thanks All... Just concerned about the location after 5 years.. I feel a little better... Thanks again... I will make appt with my band doctor just to check it... I also have acid reflux(mild case). Gas and bloating... Would like to lose 15 more pounds...

Thanks for the info.....

I totally agree!!! I was to busy wanting the band and I did not want to hear about any complications... This morning I got a very small fill of .02cc, so we will see what happens. I truly hope I don't have acid reflux to the point that I need an unfill.. Anyone with the band after 3 or 4 years have Problems!!!! I'm not ready to give up yet.... I refuse to get anymore surgeries for weight loss... Good luck to all!!!!

I have had my band since 2008. I have had fills, unfills, acid reflux,ect.. I have gain back 20 pounds of the 50 I lost. I also had all of my fluid taken out at one time. Now I have 5.5cc back in... Still 20 pounds up. I was thinking about joining Beaumont hosptial's liquid diet program to ad in losing the 20 pounds. Has anyone done that?????
-
Again, the tool starts to fail after 3-5 years... I have had my band(like many others) tweaked many times....I will try a partial liquid diet starting tomorrow along with a small fill, hoping it works along with exercise....thanks !!!
-
Barirum swallow have been done twice. Everything is normal and in place...I don't have acid reflux now, since I had an unfill... By the way acid reflux is a side effect of the lapband....after a couple years of having the band, acid reflux is the number one side effect...and weight gain happens when to much is taken out of the band... So I don't see what is so abnormal!!! I see my doctor on a regular bases..

You must understand some people who have bands 4 or 5 years sometimes have problems with acid reflux, and weight gain. I'm one of those folks. My tool worked great the first couple of years and it has been down hill since.... There are a lot of folks who have had this problem and are still having it... Plus not to mention I'm in menopause... Just looking for some NEW ideas.... Thanks
-
Well, my weight gain is from menopause. I'm sure of it. Again my diet is in check, I have restriction(sweet spot). I drink the green drink Dr OZ, most morning's and piece of fruit. Lunch and dinner consist of fish and veggies on a small saucer plate. Snacks consist of low cal cheese, grapes etc. I will admit I cheat a couple of times a month(small cheats). I take care of my parents weekly, watch my grand-kids 1 to 2 days a week, plus work out 2 or 3 times a week on my treadmill... Just saw my doctor this morning, he wants me to add in lite weight training. The only prescription meds I take are the biodentical hormones. No depression meds. Since nov of 2011 I have gained 22 pounds.... Good luck to All. Thanks!

I have had my band since 2008. Had to have many unfills due to acid reflux, I now have 5.5 in my band, I started out with 7.0 in my band. Well to make a long story short, I have gained 22 pounds back, I have restriction which is good I think, after not eating much and some exercise the weight has not come off... About a month ago I realized I'm in menopause with the sweats, depression and everything that goes along with menopause... The weight gain is from this nasty menopause... What do I do???? I have good restriction and still gaining weight! My doctor seems to think I'm crazy? Anyone with this problem?
-
To Jachut, I'm glad you are so much better:). I just started biodentical hormones two weeks ago and the night sweats and hot flashes are gone.. I'm sleeping a little better now. I hope the weight comes off as well. My eating habits are in check, exercise is not so good... Hope to get on track with that soon! I also heard b12 and vitamin d3's are good for menopause. Thanks!

Any weight gain? If I have restriction with the band, why am I not losing weight? I eat very little everyday! Not to mention, I eat health foods, very health, I might cheat 1 time a week. And that is a small amount...

Hello ladies, I got my upper hi results today, my doctor decided to take all fluid out of my band for a coupe weeks, to see if the small slip will correct itself. I hope so, I don't think I will try for surgery if the unfill does not help. I'm upset!!!! I have not had my band empty since 2008. Hope I can maintain for a few weeks, until I get my 2nd barium test. Not sure what diet I need to be on! :(
-
I will keep you posted on what happens on Monday, I see my doctor.
-
Well ladies, I had my upper gi done today. The doctor just called me and I have a slip!!!! OMG! Again the only thing I had was being to tight and acid reflux, I have had several fills and unfills. Once I get the unfill I get relief, no night cough no acid reflux. So I must decided to get this repaired. I had gained weight with the unfills but no other symptoms. I heard that if you had a slip you would have all kinds of issues. If I had not had this procedure done today I would have never known. I might have this done I'm not sure what to do.

I got banded sept of 2008. I started out at 225 pounds, I had got down to 172 pounds by last summer. I'm now 189 pounds. I have a 10cc band, I had 7cc last summer. Due to acid reflux I have only 5.8cc. Every time I need more in my band I get terrible acid reflux and than once I get a good unfill the reflux goes away and I don't have good restriction, so I gain weight !!!!! I take dexilant for the reflux. I can't seem to get ahead with this issue. Anyone with this problem? Please help!!!! I want to lose an additional 30 pounds. I'm sick of this roll coaster ride!!!

Hey heidib, I spoke with you several weeks ago about the same issue on reflux and needing unfills, I went to a new doctor today(close to home), I explained my issue with acid reflux and always needing an unfill and gaining weight. He told me that this is becoming very common with a lot of band patients, he also said that lapband surgery was the big crazzzz about 5 or 6 years ago, now the new thing is the sleeve surgery. The lapband has to many problems with acid reflux! Well, I was pissed off about that. I have no plans on getting more surgery to change with the times. His game plan for me is to do a barium swallow and check my band. He seems to think I might be one of those patients that has reached a peak with the band and I might have to work hard on my own to reach my 150 goal weight.
