  1. Thanks @J San. Since I've reacted to the glue all of my incisions have red rings around them. Yesterday they took off as much glue as they could without hurting me or causing any damage. Nothing is ever easy with my body.
  2. Gentle hugs! The first few days at home afterwards I looked at my husband and asked if I made a mistake by having the surgery. He reminded me that a lot of thought and hard work went into this process. From what I've read, questioning yourself early on seems fairly common. Remind yourself of the longterm advantages surgery will provide for you. Have you tried diluting Gatorade with water? Can you tolerate warm drinks?

@clsumrall my surgery was the 23rd and I didn't have a bm until yesterday. I was freaking out. My poor nurse heard from me daily. She had me drinking Mirilax and using glycerin suppositories and even an enema. I was terrified of what the first one would be like. Thankfully it was easy and I've been going easily since. Hope yours is just as easy.
  4. Has anyone had to fully take care of themselves when you get back home from surgery? Yesterday my husband had to go to the ER while I was in surgery for severe abdominal pain. Right now he's waiting to have a CT to see if it is appendicitis. UGH! He's so worried that he won't be able to take care of me if he does. If he has surgery we have to take care of each other somehow. We don't have family in town who could help us out.
  5. Thanks everyone! The first few days home were interesting. We've had to ask others to carry in heavy items like water and cat litter. He was able to go back to work Wednesday.
  6. One of my tiny incisions started to pull apart a bit. Yesterday at my follow up she put a bandaid on it. Today when I changed the bandaid I think I saw a little pus. There's a chance it was just antibiotic ointment but I called the dr anyway. My PA is on call and she's calling the doctor now to see how to proceed. If the incision is infected what should I expect? Will they have to clean it out? What do they do other than antibiotics?

Thanks! We were both released about the same time. He didn't know about the gas pains so as he was walking to the car a bubble got him good so he went right back to the ER. He didn't bother telling me so I was a little freaked out for a bit. Thankfully a friend brought me home. My sister and another friend have been helping take care of our fur kids. He's already back at work.
  8. Thanks everyone. We'll have to go grocery shopping when we're both released and have a friend come carry them in. Hubby makes my protein shakes but won't feel like it the first few days so I'll need premade ones. Due to other health issues I generally need help around the house with a few things anyway. A friend is going to walk our dogs daily thankfully. Guess I'll ask her to change our sheets. They were supposed to be changed yesterday. My program says to change them the night before surgery and again your first night home. His surgeon said he might be able to go back to work Wednesday. So he'll be healing much more quickly than I expected.
  9. @MassMom I went through the same emotions & had trouble sleeping. Tell the anesthesiologist about your fears of waking during the procedure. Mine was very reassuring when we discussed my fears.

@ZeroCool thanks. Crazy they kept him waiting so long before updating him. Hubby had surgery around 9 last night. This hospital is split into 2 campuses that are basically across the street from one another. He's at the other campus. But he did come see me before being admitted.

Thanks @Chrisb428 He has appendicitis and is being admitted.
  13. Thanks @Ninarwiener I'll have to ask if they offer anything like that here.
  14. Thanks but there's no way we could afford that especially with both of us out of work.
  15. On the pre-op liquid diet I had bad breath too. Hopefully it won't last everyone much longer.
  16. My pain hasn't been excruciating thankfully. There's definitely some pain there but nothing terrifying. I am experiencing more pain than I had with my hysterectomy but these incisions are larger.

I was the same way. Had my surgery yesterday & did well. My husband had to go to the ER while I was in surgery for severe abdominal pain. Right now he's waiting to have a CT to see if it is appendicitis. UGH! He's so worried that he won't be able to take care of me if he does.

Still in pain and groggy today. Didn't get to my room until 9:30 last night. My heart rate was too high so they kept me in recovery a while. Yesterday my husband had to go to the ER while I was in surgery for severe abdominal pain. Right now he's waiting to have a CT to see if it is appendicitis. UGH! He's so worried that he won't be able to take care of me if he does. Can I cry now?

Thank you! Surgery isn't until 1:00 so it might be late before I can check in. How are you doing today?
  23. My guess is that your BMI shouldn't drop too low in order to qualify.
