30 second elevator interview
thatch replied to GreenTealael's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 44 years old and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I have been a writer all my life but it doesn't feel like "enough" any more. I am the mom to five cats (yes, five!) because I have a heart of mush. My husband is my partner in crime. I have one tattoo but want sleeves. My favorite color is turquoise. I hallucinate upon waking. I love sharks, dinosaurs, and cephalopods. I am incredibly introverted but love new places and experiences. -
Same for me. Even waiters feel the need to comment on how little I'm eating. :/

I've kept my surgery very private. Nothing on social media at all. I debated not telling my parents, but ended up doing so since they would figure out something was up next time they saw me eat when I visited. Only my closest friends and family members know. It's not that I'm keeping it a secret necessarily, I just don't like sharing details about my health with people. I do admire the more extroverted among us who are sharing their journeys though, and I enjoy reading about people's experiences.

Same here! I've always been this way though. Whenever I travel I need to know where all the bathrooms are immediately!
-
Oh yeah. I'm 2 months out myself and all the water I drink means I stay in the bathroom. I also get up several times at night.
-
Oh God I miss carbonated beverages. 2 months out here and I can't wait to drink a Coke.

I went out to eat over the holiday weekend and ended up barfing up my dinner. It was so strange, I don't feel like I ate too much or too fast but something about my meal (boiled shrimp) just seemed off. It was horribly embarrassing (I did make it to the bathroom before vomiting but there was a line and everyone heard) and I burst blood vessels in my face from the pressure of vomiting. Just thinking about shrimp now is enough to make me sick to my stomach...blech.

My belly pain stopped about two weeks ago, thought I still get twinges. Yesterday I was doing some planks and it felt like it was pulling in that same area that was painful so maybe I hold off on ab exercises for a bit longer. I'm working out with resistance bands. Mostly arm stuff as my legs are pretty strong from walking 3 miles a day. Bicep curls, shoulder raises, pushups against the wall, etc.

Sorry to hear you've been depressed. I am seeing my therapist in September to talk about my issues and in the meantime just trying to focus on doing the right thing one day at a time. I was nervous about veggies, too. Cooked tomatoes, spinach, and soft peppers are all I've been brave enough to eat. Haven't had a problem with any of them but the quantities are really small. Glad you're losing 2lbs a week, that's great!

Hey, @Letsgetgoing2018! I'm feeling pretty good. I had a week where I was just really, really depressed and wondering if I'd done the right thing with this surgery. I just was tired (already) of counting protein grams and drinking water and keeping track of vitamins. Then something switched in my brain over the weekend and I'm back on track. I'm cooking again which I haven't been doing since long before the surgery and I've started adding strength training to my workouts. My diet is still pretty much soft foods. I tried chicken nuggets on Saturday and they made me sick. :/ I made some baked tilapia with roasted tomatoes on Sunday and am enjoying those leftovers. Chili, soups, smoothies, and soft meats cooked in the crockpot are still the mainstay of my diet. How about you?

Hi all! I'm 44 and was sleeved 7/11/18. I am starting to see "new" wrinkles as I lose the weight which is freaking me out a little. I guess my fat face had one benefit!

Four weeks post op after sleeve- what are you eating?
thatch replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made these yesterday as I'm really trying to get more veggies in my diet. Delicious! https://weelicious.com/2010/07/29/spinach-ricotta-bites/ That said, my weight loss is pretty slow, too. I'm down to 210 from my first appointment weight of 245 and surgery weight of 222. -
The only thing that helps gas pain is walking. Even if you can only do a lap around the house, it helps. Good luck!

Feel like I should have lost more weight by now

I'm doing great. Finally got my water intake sorted and I'm up to walking an hour a day. I think the reason we're not seeing faster results is that we started at a relatively low weight to begin with. It's going to be slower for us, but we'll get there. How are you feeling otherwise? -

I started at 245 and am down to 212 -- the same rate of loss as you. I think we've done pretty darn good myself! Keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there. <3 -
Welcome! The forums are full of great information and some interesting people. Good luck on your journey!

Chicken pureed with a tiny bit of mayo or Greek yogurt and different seasonings (curry powder is great), same with salmon/tuna/crab, cottage cheese with some sugar free jam, refried beans with a little taco seasoning and salsa, cream soups with added protein powder. Check out http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html for some more pureed ideas.

Best wishes on your journey! -
I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and still struggling with eating too fast. It's a hard habit to break!

I also had a low grade fever the first few days after surgery. I felt like I was burning up. I just took it as a sign to get more sleep and fluids and everything was fine.

Thanks for this great recipe! I bought several cans of salmon but wasn't sure how to dress it up. This will be a great lunch today!
