It was months before I could do sit-ups. Without doing any my port was very soar for months after surgery, so I didn't want to agrivate it any more with sit-ups. But for the last month or so, I've been trying to do ab work-outs regularly, and I can def. feel a difference. Once this tummy fat is gone, I should have a nice firm tummy under there...

I take the chewable viactive multi-vitamin and the Viactive calcium chewable. I try to get them both in every day, but I forget sometimes. Also, my nutritionist told my you shouldn't take a mulit and calcium at the same time...anyone else here this? I should ask her next time I go into the docs.

Newbie and looking for a Doc in Boston
Bostongurl replied to timeforchange's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Nicole, First off, welcome, and congrats on making the first steps towards a huge change. I am also in Boston, and had the procedure in April by Dr. Hess. When I first met with him, he had only been doing the procedure for about a year or so, but I had heard really good things about him, and as BMC is where my primary doc is, that's where I decided to go. The team there is great, and I've had a GREAT experience with Dr. Hess and his team. Good luck with your journey, and don't hesitate to ask any quesions at all. Best, C -

Thanks for the nice words Crispy, I really appreciate it. Any advise...well to be honest, I think I do best when I just take this one day at a time. I know it sounds like such a cliché, but it's the truth. Every day is different and some days things are really hard, others not so much. So I go to the gym as much as I can, but don't beat myself up on the days I can't make it. I make good food decisions MOST of the time, but again, don't feel guilty when I eat something bad. I could probably go on for days, but I'll just leave you with that little tad bit for now, we don't want anyone falling asleep on us. Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep in touch! -

I honestly had port pain for months after surgery. I actually started to think that it might always feel that way - but it did go away. Now, it hurts every once in a while (after sit-ups, etc) but not bad at all. -
Way to go KLM3hrt, you are an inspiration!! I'm sure it's been a lot of hard work, but it's obviously paying off!

What is the success rate? Scared...
Bostongurl replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey there, so I don't have the numbers you're looking for, I'm sure they are out there, but just not from me. I did however want to say hello as our stats are VERY similar: banding date, starting weight, current weight, etc. Anyway, I completely relate, I constantly feel like, what if somehting happens to my band, what if I loose this tool i've come to rely on? etc. but at the end of the day, I try to just look at how far I've already come, and do everything I can while I have the band, treat my band well, and deal with the rest later. Good luck, and keep in touch! C -
Hello - Considering Lap Band - NYC
Bostongurl replied to benbax's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there Benbax . So first off, the band is by far the best thing that I have ever done for myself. Of course there are some serious difficulities along the way, it's certainly not easy, you have to work very hard, but you will have a tool that when used properly has the ability to help you loose the weight. Also, I've heard amazing things about the docs at NYU - Dr. Fielding and Dr. Ren are supposed to be top of the field, so you'll certainly be in good hands with them. Good luck, and keep reading from this board, there is more info here than you could ever need. -
So my next big goal to achieve is to get to 184. When I reach this, I will have lost a total of 80lbs, and not only that, but at that point, my BMI will be below 30, which means I will no longer be considered "obese." This of course is huge for me, and something to really work towards. I'm currently at 191, and my more immediate goal is to get to 189, which will bring me to a total of 75lbs lost, which is also huge. Goal #1: Get to 189 before I go home for Christmas Goal #2: Get to 184 by Jan 3rd...that might be a bit much considering the holidays...but we'll see goal #3: increase my caloric intake by 200cal or so per day to accommodate for extra exercise Goal #4: drink at least four blue bottles worth of water per day

So I'm finally in a really good routine, working out regularly, eating well, but I'm loosing less weight than I was before. Now in what world does that make any sense? The reasonable side of me says: “you’re bound to plateau after a while of consistent loosing”, or “you’re gaining muscle mass and loosing fat”, etc. But D*MN, I’m working so hard and loosing a pound every other week??? It’s like watching paint dry. The good news is that I’m actually enjoying working out for maybe the first time in my life, and even though I haven’t lost very much recently, more people than ever are commenting on how much weight I’ve lost. So I guess I’ll stop wining and just go with the flow, but when you work so hard and see such small results, it’s hard not to get in a funk about it every once in a while. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? Where you worked out more then you had been, but stopped loosing weight?

Exercising more than ever & barely loosing
Bostongurl replied to Bostongurl's topic in Fitness & Exercise
All very good advise, thanks so much for everyone who is either just commiserating and or offering advise - it's all very helpful. Telly, I think that you may have actually hit the nail on the head, and that was the one thing I had not thought of, but that absolutly makes sense. -
Hi April 06 bandsters. I thought I would post a new thread to see how everyone is doing 6 months post op. I don't know about you all, but it feels like a lifetime ago that I went through the procedure. I see everyones numbers in our weight tracker post, and it looks like everyone is pluggin along, but I want to hear about how people are doing, struggles, tips, challenges, accoplishments, etc.

Keri, The good news is that it's NEVER to late to pick ourselves back up, dust ourselves off, and start again. Everyday is a new chance to make a change...so wipe the slate clean, get rid of any guilt about what you have or have not done over the last 1 1/2 years, and start fresh today. Good luck to you, and keep us posted.

Hi all, so I'm pre-op, still going through my testing, don't have a date yet. But I'm trying to figure out what I am going to tell my boss and co-workers. I don't feel like it's any of thier business, but they also need to know something. Just curious if any of you had the perfect story that you told your work. I'm affraid if I say "it's personal" thier imaginations will run wild and some rumor will start. Thanks for any advise!

Okay, so as hard to believe as it is, September is just a couple of months away. Personally, I have all sorts of things going on in September, my 29th birthday, the awaited arrival of my first niece/nephew, and all sorts of other things, including my next appointment with my doc on Sept. 7th.<O:p</O:p SO, I'm challenging myself to get below 200lbs by Sept. 7th, which is 8 weeks away. Anyone else around the same weight want to join me in a little personal challenge to get to onderland??

How did you find out about the Band?
Bostongurl replied to lisah25's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I heard about it through my sister who is a surgical nurse in a unit that specializes in the Band. After learning a bit about it from her, I did a ton of research and the process began, nine months later, here I am, an official bandster, and 55lbs lighter! For the first time in my life I have hope about weight loss, and I KNOW that I will once and for all get and KEEP this weight off. And this feels unbelievable.
