  1. I admire your willpower. I got on the scale today and it didn't budge from yesterday. It reminded me that I really need to just step back and let my body do the healing and the weight will shed on it's own. My goal now is to stay away from it until Sunday. Crossing fingers I can keep my own challenge.
  2. @macadamia, Quaker Oats has an instant oatmeal that is labeled "weight control" - I think it's really just less sugar. But some of the flavors are tasty.
  3. Great news! Let me know how the appointment goes!

    Failing

Do you cook? Make some homemade bone broth soups. You can get a good amount of protein from the liquid broth and it's not sweet. I also found on Amazon and BariatricPal store some soups to mix with water. They have high protein and taste OK
  5. I found mixing lipton cup of soup (less noodles) with bariwise (found on amazon) chicken soup mix was filling and provided the protein I needed. I did the same thing with cream of broccoli soup (strained). It was a way to get "real" flavor and my protein from liquids in.
  6. I struggle with the water portion of my goals and anything that's cold or room temperature. It takes me 3-4 hours to drink 11oz protein shake because it feels like a brick in my belly. Water is worse. The only thing that has worked for me is hot broth. It's been my best friend and has gotten me through this past week. Just keep trying things, everyday it gets better.
  7. I wouldn't be too worried. Keep the following in mind... Have you been passing gas / burping regularly to release the excess air. Additionally have you had a BM? If not, that could be some of your problem too. I gained nearly 10lbs post surgery and it wasn't until I passed a BM did the weight start coming off.

    What to expect??

I woke up sore, but the idea of having to stay in the hospital longer than 1-day was enough to motivate me to move. When they transferred me from recovery to my room, I got up and transferred myself. The pain was there, but take it slow. The quicker you get to walking yourself (I refused a bedpan and walked to the bathroom every time). And when they tell you to drink, drink. They gave me a log and I made sure to use it. The more you do and show you can do the quicker they are to release you. I wanted to recover in the privacy of my own home. Walking will help the gas pains, keep walking, keep drinking and log it. You got this....
  9. I'm a week post and know your feeling. I finally broke this weekend and took a tsp. of peanut butter. It was just what I needed - I know I'm still two weeks from that stage, but that little bit helped me and satisfied my urges for texture other than liquid. I'll confess my sins next week at my post-op appointment but I'll admit it was what I and my body needed at that moment

    3 weeks post op

watch what you're eating too. I've noticed if I mix my shake too much and create bubbles, I get the sharp gassy pains following. I've had that with a few other items. Walking and rubbing my lower back helps with moving gas or burping. I read on one of these forums that someone used a pillow at her belly and started patting herself on the back to burp. I've used my boyfriend to rub my back and that helps too.
  11. Have you reread your plan? I keep referring back to it every time I question my food choices. At 3 weeks out, purees - you should consider soft scramble, pureed chicken / fish - there are some amazing recipes on Pintrest that I know I can't wait to try. Also, pureed vegetables, I love cauliflower mash - I'm sure you could add some protein powder to increase your protein intake with it. You can also now do more advanced soups, pureed of course. I personally am looking forward to homemade bean soup with veggies pureed of course.
  12. I've been fortunate, for the first time ever I've had no-smell gas. So truly just air coming out.
  13. Follow up with your surgeon just to be sure, but I'd suggest Milk of Magnesia. It's not uncommon to still not have gone at this point, but much longer you will definitely want to seek medical attention.
  14. Drink water. The headache is likely dehydration. The bloated is definitely post surgery and the relief... well pure relief. Try and get some nourishment and before you know it your Dr's office will call back.
  15. Don't freak out. Just breathe. Are you feeling weak, dizzy or any other symptoms? It's possible it's perfectly normal. Don't forget they removed 85% of your stomach, I'm sure that has some weight to it. And maybe your body is just healing more quickly. - I'm sure you will be fine.
  16. A BM weighing in at 20+lbs is still something to be quite concerned with. It was 2 days post-op that I finally had a BM (rabbit turds) and prior to it was 2-days prior to surgery. The first one is always difficult because of all the meds / fluids you've been on.
  17. @Marisol Unda - you've lost 27lbs in 4-days? WOW! I'd definitely call your surgeon just to make sure that's normal. I've lost 9.8lbs since my surgery on 8/20 and that's with 200 - 400 kcal per day since day 3.

    3 Week Post Op

@MizzNewLife, I completely agree with Russ. Your body is in a healing stage and not providing it nutrients is unhealthy too. Take each day slowly and try to increase your intake a little at a time. You'll find once your nourish your body and follow your plan the pounds will shed away.
  19. It may seem excessive, but the process works and there have been far more success stories than negative ones. I'd much rather have a smaller stomach and control how much I can eat versus the way I was.

    This is it!

No need to freak out, before you know it you will be in recovery and up and walking. Just remember to walk as much as you can post surgery. you got this
  21. @neneto3 I wouldn't look at the scale until at least one week post-op. Many have said and I too was skeptical, but the first couple of days after surgery you will weigh more than pre-surgery. This is because you have been on IV drips since you entered the hospital along with the CO2 they put into your body to see your insides. I gained 8lbs post surgery and now that I'm home and following my plan, the swelling is going down along with weight. I think we all forget that we didn't gain weight overnight, it definitely won't come off overnight. Just be patient, follow your plan and before you know it you'll be watching yourself whittle away.
  22. My Dr. said the same thing. I'm just craving texture and something with a little consistency. I did cheat the other day - I had a tsp of creamy peter pan peanut butter. It was definitely what my body wanted... - I'll have to fess up to the Dr. next week at my 2 week post op, but I'm afraid to try anything else. I've read and heard horror stories of solid foods tearing out staples or causing leaks. I'm not willing to go through all this only to mess up now.

    Help

I would definitely second what @photogirl70 has said. Not having a BM in nearly 4 weeks is definitely cause for alarm. Contact your Dr., right away and see what he would recommend. They may want to see you vs. trying an enema at home. It's possible you're impacted which could require some help with removing fecal matter.
  24. I'm only 1 week post-op (VSG) but I'm curious to know how many of you are thrill seekers and how long after your surgery did you venture back to the land of roller coasters and amusement park rides? I know this sounds crazy but I swear when I move these days I can feel my insides move right along with me. But, I'm dying to get back out there and ride some rides. We have a big vacation planned for October and heading to Universal Studios, and hoping the rides will be doable. We also hold season tickets to a local park which I would love to use sooner rather than later. I should mention that 1 week post op, I get a little motion sick driving myself 30-minutes to work (first day back to work too). I'm sure it's all in the healing, but hope it goes away soon.
  25. Like you this was one of my concerns giving up straws and carbonated beverages. But I can see the intake of air with both and the idea of injuring my new belly for self-gratification is enough to have me rethink my thoughts / decision. Straw - The tube is filled with air as you suck up the liquid. Is it enough to damage you, maybe, maybe not. But is it worth the chance? I can tell you post op, that ice-cold beverage in my yeti cup is not a concern as I can barely tolerate room temperature. My new stomach only wants hot liquids (not even warm). Choose your battles wisely and as you learn your new routines you may or may not want that straw anymore.
