Leaving My Dogs While on Vacation

I stopped using boarding kennels because of the cost and stress. I now use a petsitter, used to use a pet sitter service which was actually about the same cost as a boarder. . Home pet sitting is much more healthy for the pet as well, they are not stressed about being somewhere strange.
  3. I can say I've been very hesitant to try a glass for that very reason. LOL
  4. My work colleague told me she was a heavy tailgater prior to WLS and she's now 1 year post and has been known to blackout after 1 drink. I think your decision to abstain is wise. If you're going to experiment with alcohol better to do it in the privacy of your own home. (Where no one has blackmail pictures 😂🤣)

    Single DUE to surgery

My BF supported me (or so I thought) up to surgery and even afterwards. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago we had an argument that the truth came out that he never wanted me to have surgery. And as it turned out he was afraid of what the future would hold. Would I still want him like I do today; How would my feelings, attitude, etc change. He reminded me that with WLS it's not just our body that transforms but our entire demeanor. It's sad that it took 2 months post surgery and almost a year in prepping to have the truth come out. But once we sat down and really talked about the surgery, my progress, our future it helped us move on as a couple. He now takes the time to ask how I'm doing with everything post surgery. I guess we had so much going on in our lives, that I didn't even notice he didn't ask me prior. I'm sorry you are dealing with this situation, it sucks. My personal opinion is to take a day / weekend - go away (if you're still together) and spend some time talking about what has happened. Make sure you're both on the same page with your future plans too. Wishing you the best....

    Only 3lbs down since surgery

Nothing is "normal" anymore. You have had major surgery on your insides. With that being said, as many above have noted, just focus on your recovery and less on pounds loss. I've reminded myself many times and will continue to do so throughout my journey that the weight did NOT appear overnight, and surgery is NOT a miracle worker. It's a tool, that require our hard work, persistence, patience and attention for a lifetime to come. You've been anatomically remodeled and it's now your job to stay healthy and follow the plan that your team set in motion for you. The weight WILL come off, slowly, just like the way it presented itself... over time, not over night. Stay positive, trust the process and follow your plan. You've got this.
  7. I would say I think I'm one of the few that did not / has not experienced "buyers remorse." But, I can also say for myself (and truly me alone), I did all the research I could possibly do. And I don't buy / do things without doing my due diligence. Even my impulse buys are based off detailed research. When I made the final decision to go through with the surgery, I was ready and ready "now." 10 weeks later, super slow progress (IMO), several stalls... I still have no regrets or buyers remorse.
  8. Welcome. Be sure to search through some old posts, that will definitely help you in the early stages. Looking forward to seeing your progress
  9. Sorry, that was for @Creekimp13, not sure how your name got "quoted" - very weird, but my pc and phone have been acting up.... apologies to you. I didn't say or imply anyone was a vegetarian / vegan, just stated that being one wouldn't prevent cancer either.
  10. Too bad I don't like Tequila! LOL
  11. While I appreciate your "links" to all these horrible cancer related posts, I find it overkill. We are all adults here and hopefully wise enough to conduct our own research to know what side effects could come about. Honestly, if you were to read every medical journal out there, you would find a link to cancer with everything we put into our bodies. So, thank you for these posts, but allow us to conduct our own research. For myself, I have / do conduct my own research before I change my lifestyle. And the truth is - your diet doesn't need to be all Vegetarian or Vegan to prevent cancer.

    Supplements beforehand?

Yes, I started taking vitamins, biotin, calcium / magnesium / potassium supplements. I believe putting my body into a healthy pre-op state has helped me with a successful post-op. But I also started these supplements 8 months before surgery (6 months before I finalized my plans to have surgery). I wouldn't over do shakes, but I would try a few to see what flavors you like, but don't over buy as you will quickly find out they will not be your best friends post op.

    Fluids

I am 10 weeks post op and still struggle wit fluids. It has everything to do with temperature / texture of the fluid. Some days I can only handle hot fluids, others room temperature, and yet more often than not lately ice ice cold. Additionally somedays I can drink tap water, others it has to be quality bottled water (can't be dasani or zephrhills). It's all trial and error and somedays / weeks it's more error than trial.

    So Dramatic...

Me too.... There's just no knowing what our bodies have in mind for us. 😔

    Daily calories

It really depends on what your surgical team / nutritionist has set for you. At 5.5 weeks I was eating between 600 -700 cals per day up to 6 times per day (I think about the same volume as yourself). I've just up'd my caloric intake to 800 but still struggling with less than 6 times per day to get my proteins in. Just remember, it's all trial and error. You have to do what feels right to you and your body (while following the plan from your team).
  16. I am 10 weeks post op and my weight loss has been slower than a turtle. But please remember, you did not gain this weight overnight and these surgeries are not miracle workers. They are tools that we have opted to get to help us lose weight. The weight loss process still lies in our hands. We are responsible for ensuring we follow and maintain a healthy diet and get adequate fluid / water intake (upwards of 100+ oz per day) including protein intake (minimum 60 oz per day or whatever set forth by your surgeon and nutrition team. I've shared the following photo several times on many forums throughout BP - and it's a great reminder that we are still very early into this and our weight loss thus far is on track for the "average" person. Remember (as often I am reminded) it's a marathon, not a sprint race. The longer we continue with a slower weight loss, the longer it will remain off (assuming we follow the plan given to us).
  17. How many calories are you taking in each day? Can you give an example of what you are eating? First of all, don't compare yourself to other people. Everyone loses differently. A lot of dependent on rest, calories in / calories out, physical exercise, protein / water. I'm 10 weeks post op and down a total of 37 lbs since the day before Preop started and 20lbs from Surgery day. Are you following your diet? Getting enough protein, liquids, sleep each day? I can tell you that if I sleep less than 8 hours I will wake up and have gained weight. Additionally if I don't get my minimum water intake, I gain weight. I eat 4 - 6 small meals per day, up to 800 KCAL per day. The smaller meals help me ensure I get enough protein and keep my fluids easier. It's not uncommon to stall on weight loss after WLS as your body becomes accustomed to the changes.

    Meal Planning

I buy a lot of easily pre-portioned meals, (i.e. Tuna Creations, Individually wrapped guacamole, chicken salad, hummus). I also span my meals out to 4 - 6 meal servings throughout the day. Since you work night shift, do you still get enough "sleep" hours? It is said and documented that adequate sleep help with additional weight loss. I know for myself when I get 8 hours of sleep my body loses more weight than when I get anything less than 8. Also make sure you are getting enough water / liquid upwards of 100+ oz per day. Also if you are looking at average weightloss... then you are on target by this chart...

    stomach noises

Mine only acts up when it's eating something it doesn't really like (doesn't matter how healthy it is).
  20. MargoCL

    Protein protein protein

My team allows up to 6 meals per day to meet my protein goals. I'm eating every 2.5 - 3 hours. I'm 10 weeks post op and can make my protein goals much easier by having many little meals. I'm slowly reducing total meals and increasing serving sizes, but 2 - 4 oz us all I can handle. Take your time, find what works best for you.

    SOUP, 911

it is not only less expensive to make your own soup it is healthier. I bought some soups and not $100 worth, far less and I can tell you I still have more than 1/2 left
  22. yes, you will be able to have it, your body may not like it anymore as I'm learning (10 weeks post today). Things I used to love and crave, my body rejects. which isn't all that bad because it will keep me away from those naughty yummies

    Still uncomfortable

@johnson13 what Matt was saying is to take your total daily needed calories and add the calories burned each day to ensure there is no calorie deficit. (i.e. daily kcal 1500, through exercise I burn another 500, 1500 - 500 = 1000, daily kcal intake should be 2000 during this time so when exercise is factored in your still getting the 1500kcal daily)
