Hard time staying on plan
MargoCL replied to MassMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with @GreenTealael and @thatch. 1. You should remove all temptations if you can do that. 2. Don't beat yourself up over it, it will only make things worse overall. During the pureed stage there are lots of things you can eat, I found that the Starkist Tuna Creations were perfect because mostly mashed up already and flavored. I have found a love for cottage cheese again and Ricotta bakes add flavor and substance. Try thicker soups and puree them. I also made Hungarian Zucchini stew and was able to puree it and add protein powder and it tasted as good as it would've prior to WLS. I've also used Pinterest and even the forums on here to give me some ideas when I need a change. -
Aunt flo is killing me! Any advice?
MargoCL replied to Real California April's topic in The Gals' Room
I've heard some problems with Essure in the last year, but like I said, I had the ablation (Novasure) and Essure at the same time 8 years ago. I've had zero complications since. - Your body will still produce eggs and hormones, but the two procedures have saved my life. -

I thought the 8-days heavy was "normal" too - I could never donate blood like I wanted to because my iron was so short. I would definitely talk to your GYN and discuss all your options. I do know that if the fibroids get worse (they've returned) - my next option is hysterectomy. I'm not ready to go there yet. I'm hoping I can talk him into 1 more ablation before that route. But I'm also hoping that the weight loss will decrease the amount of estrogen my body produces to eliminate fibroids -

I was a heavy bleeder for years (long before WLS). I would advise you if you are considering having children then DO NOT get an ablation. If you become pregnant after an ablation there could be fatal complications following. Have you spoken with your GYN and have you had an ultrasound for uterine fibroids? For me, my PCP wanted me to have a transfusion and I adamantly against it as we didn't know the cause of my excessive bleeding. It turned out my uterus was full of fibroids the first time 14, the largest size of a canteloupe. The second time I had 7, myself personally, I had decided I would not be having children so I went through with an ablation including permanent birth control Essure. It was the best decision of my life as my periods went from a HEAVY 8-days to a spotting max 3-days. The procedure was done in 2010 and I have zero regrets. But again, if you are planning to have children or more children, this should not be an option at all. -
Yes, I was swollen about two weeks even with weightloss. I wore loose clothing to avoid the tightness of clothing.

None of the chinese restaurants in my area make good Won Ton soup. It's really sad. But when I used to live on the other side of town, that was always my go to in place of homemade chicken noodle. I definitely think once you're cleared for eggs, Egg Drop soup can become a staple. (not my favorite soup at all, so no envy there. LOL ) The bone broths are what helped me through that liquid phase, not sure what I would've done without it.

You can have the broth, but not the noodles. If you can make homemade and strain the nutritional value doubles

Oh no, I'm not ready to go IF yet. Your posts here always help and I'm learning a lot! I have my 5 week FU Wednesday so I know what to ask from my surgery team. So all of what you do and say helps me moving forward. And definitely keeps me from losing my patience. -

Don't over buy, I made that mistake and now have a ton of leftover proteins that I have zero interest in. -
I met my boyfriend on Tinder, but the sites that worked best for me (I live in NC) were plenty of fish, tinder, zoosk, and Ok Cupid. They seemed to have the least fake profiles. I wasn't lucky with match or eharmony. I also met some great people through "meetup" which is really a group activities app, dinner clubs, sports, biking, etc. It's all trial and error. Take your time, have fun and use the various apps to help build confidence.

drinking cold water
MargoCL replied to raidersnation's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had /have the same problem. So much so that to this day my tolerance changes at least weekly if not more frequently. And I had my surgery on 8/20 too. It's a pain, but... I play the game my belly and esophagus want and adjust accordingly. Last week I was back to room temp, this week I'm at ice cold. LOL -
Going back work after sleeve
MargoCL replied to NewBodySoon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ouch, I'm so sorry. I have those issues with some foods. Fortunately milk is still ok. Scrambled eggs were bad my 1st time better 2nd. Before wls u was a huge fan of egg in microwave, small paper bowl, spritz with butter or substitute crack an egg, cover cook for 30 sec, add cheese cook another 30. (Sometimes require 15 more sec) and it's the perfect healthy over medium egg. I forgot to mention also bought some guacamole and hummus packs. Those definitely are my go to for a flavored side -

I've become a huge fan of Starkist Tuna Creations - I really like the Jalapeno the best, but the Ranch, Buffalo and other flavors are good too. Most don't need anything added and are very filling. If I do add something, The ranch and jalapeno I add 1 TSP of ranch dressing to make it a little more creamy and the buffalo add buffalo ranch 1 TSP. Cottage cheese (high protein) and I have become friends again and this too, easy to pack and store. Cheese sticks most have less than 70 CAL and decent protein Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt and Oikos Zero both high in protein and can be made into two meals - I add ground flax seed to increase my fiber. I made a pot of chili last week (added a dollop of sour cream and shredded cheese) and it lasted.... My only concern with this, while my plan is all for beans, I read today that beans should be consumed in moderation, no more than twice a week due to its starchiness. So a late lesson, but I'll know for the future. Deli meat roll-ups. I get the deli to slice just a bit thicker than my usual preference of "thinly sliced" so it rolls nicely. If it's sliced right can get 2 - 3 slices and a cheese stick to make a meal I also bought on Amazon some wonderslim shakes/pudding... fell in love with the chocolate caramel... have used it both as a pudding and a shake 15g Protein and it was that right sweet when you want a dessert. They have other flavors. The BP site has something similar too. my diet has been pretty boring at work, but this has worked for me and kept hunger at bay. -

THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is what I've been looking for - I've upped my calories but afraid I'll stop losing weight, but I'm right in the middle of 600-700 per day. My scale in these early days is not really my friend, but I keep listening to all of you and I'm trusting and believing in the process... If I lose more slowly, so be it. The weight didn't come on over night... plus it's less dramatic at work that way... less questions -

I packed everything in pre-measured containers and planned my meals accordingly (actually still doing that 5 weeks post). It makes eating so much easier especially if you are eating multiple meals and not just your standard 3 + 2. I use MyfitnessPal which has a reminder if I don't log my meals, but I also have it set for every 3 hours to stop and eat something (my day starts at 530a and I get home around 430p) As for water, I have a 20 oz tumbler that I force myself to drink 2 - 3 times before leaving work and have 1 to drink on my way home from work to ensure I'm getting my fluids in. Good luck! -
What to expect out of spouse before and after surgery?
MargoCL replied to ShannaH's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@ShannaH - Have you spoken to your husband again about this? Maybe sit him down and explain what you're feeling and find out his true feelings. The work to lose weight is all on you, but I think personally we all need that "rock" for support to help us through the difficult time (and there will be difficult times). We all have our own experiences and advice but honestly only you and your husband can work this out. And you have to decide how to handle it if he doesn't give you the support / answers you want / need to hear. Sending Hugs and remember we're all here for you -
I would check with your NUT or surgeon, but during my pre-op I was allowed up to 5 meals per-day - 3 Protein shake meal replacements, 2 protein shakes or broths along with SF Popsicles. Are you drinking enough water? I had my 3 shakes, 2 snacks and still 64 oz of water daily for 14 days

Almost three weeks out, not losing!
MargoCL replied to ifishedmywish's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went through this as well. As @MizzNewLife and @Frustr8 stated, just Trust the process. I'm in week #5 and have bounced around with 5 pounds since week #3. I know my body is changing because I not only feel it, I see it. Clothes fit better, I have more energy and I feel better. So, just because the scale doesn't move doesn't mean your body isn't changing. Have faith and #trusttheprocess -
Taking Multiple Pills Post Surgery
MargoCL replied to Heifzilla's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Right after surgery I took my separately for the first couple of weeks while my esophagus was healing. Now 5 weeks out, it's not bad taking them together, but found I prefer to take them apart. -
Taking Tylenol in pill form
MargoCL replied to E G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr's gave the OK at 2 weeks out to take full pills. This came when I specifically asked about vitamins. I still open capsules because I found it works better. Otherwise I swallow all my pills -
What to expect out of spouse before and after surgery?
MargoCL replied to ShannaH's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My bf and I made the conscious effort in the beginning of the year to lose weight together. He knew that while my efforts were geared toward natural weightloss I would speak to the bariatric surgeon and find out what I needed to do. His weightloss took off and loss 30lbs in 2 mos, I lost 14 and stayed stagnant. We continued on our journey and he stayed between 30-35 lb loss and we remained true to our new healthy eating habits. Fast forward from January to June and my weightloss never budged so I went forward with my options for surgery. My bf was and still is very supportive. He has remained by my side every day and while he eats what he wants, he does not support me eating fast food because he knows it's a bad habit waiting. He does allow me a cheat every now and then with a chip or something, but all in all, I could not have asked for a more supportive partner. Allows me to share meals with him when we go out and encourages me to work out even when I don't always want to. If your husband is all in and truly supportive he would not say or play the games he us playing. Is it possible he is insecure and fears losing you if you lose the weight? If that's the case counseling for the both of you is needed. If my bf did not support me, I know I would not be as successful as I am. This journey is about the both of us, not just me. It's my personal journey to get healthy, but it's our journey together because we both want the same outcome -
