You're not. Seriously... if you don't try online dating. Check out the app called "Meetup" - It's NOT a dating site, it's really about finding like minded people in group settings. The hardest part no matter how you choose to proceed is getting out there.

Tinder is what you make of it. When I was on there I met more people looking for relationships than those looking for hookups (not saying that they didn't exist). But I had a lot of great dates from Tinder before I met my BF. We spoke for about 2 weeks (because of our schedules) before we met in person and dated for 2 months before we became exclusive. If I hadn't tried Tinder, I wouldn't have met the great guy I did. Who shares the same religious beliefs, morals and activities as I do.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
MargoCL replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 236, preop weight was 218 and currently at 206 - they want me at 167 I should mention I fluctuate between 205.6 and 207.1 - and have for about 2 weeks. -
I didn't use the service, For a $1000 +, I could think of better ways to use my money at the time. But basically they were going to do the "searching" for me based off my likes / dislikes. What my hobbies were. Based on the cost, I wasn't willing to put my trust in a company to "find" me a suitor. Hence I went to online dating... had a few rocky years but was pretty much always dating and then 3 years ago, I tried Tinder and met my current love.

I can tell you here in Charlotte, NC - a matchmaker service was well over $1000.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
MargoCL replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my 5 week follow-up this week and spoke to my Surgical PA and she assured me of the following: Weight loss is not a straight slope down. There will be slopes, plateaus and valleys. It's all about the end-game. While I did not think my weight loss was significant enough she assured me that based on their end-goals for me I was at 33%. Hearing all this from her only confirmed what I've been reading on here from the vets and assured me that I'm moving in the right direction. Remember, your team set a "goal" for you - that number may or may not be the same goal that you have set for yourselves. But focus on their goal and if you exceed it at the end then you are ahead of the game. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
MargoCL replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not made one with cauliflower crust, but if you go on Pinterest and search fathead pizza dough, there's one that uses almond flour, cream cheese and shredded cheese - It was one of my go to's before WLS. We don't like coconut flour so really try to use Almond flour alternatives. -
1.5 weeks post op ~ Pain under left rib gage
MargoCL replied to ifishedmywish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing and when I asked my surgical team about it, they said keep on eye on it, if it lasts longer than "normal" they will check. It was gone in less than a week. -
I hate to say this but online dating is the easiest way to get back in the dating pool. It will help you regain that dating confidence. I met my bf on Tinder, we've been together almost 3 years. Some people think it's a hook up site, but I think it's what you make of it and how you use it. Being in NYC, I'm sure there are a ton of groups where you can meet people face to face. I used an app called "meetup" and it was for various meetup groups, like singles for dinner, or sports clubs, etc. I met a lot of great people that way (of all age groups). Go have fun! You deserve it!

Protein Powder suggestions PLEASE HELP
MargoCL replied to Jakesoldlady's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I love their syntrax brand and the coffee/latte/mocha flavors are hands down my favorite while I'm on a caffeine restriction. -
I have a misfit phase and ray for date nights and swimming. They are all water resistant, but don't want to get my leather strap wet. The ray I can wear on my wrist, ankle or necklace. Downside they really only provide progress and reminders not heart rate.

I agree with@crankymagpie, you need to decide what features you want. I have a garmin, misfit and 2 samsung gears. My favorite is the misfit, it syncs and looks like a real watch with the analog face. But when I volunteer I like my samsung because of the other app features. Research them, compare reviews and find one that works for you.

Not doing great in pre-op diet
MargoCL replied to sleevemebaby7781's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The object of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. The smaller your liver is during surgery the less surgical complications can arise. You don't want the Dr nicking your liver while cutting in to you? As for sabotaging, I guess it depends on what you're eating. Additionally, your intestines and colon need to be "clean" for the surgery. The last thing you want is bacteria oozing out if there is an accidental nicking. You have a little over a week to go, follow your plan - now is the time to start your new healthy habits. -
If you're still concerned, contact your medical team. But my guess is it's probably all normal. Just keep walking, getting your proteins and water in.

My suggestion to you is to read and research as much as you can online. Find a bariatric center in your area with a reputable surgeon and speak to them. For me personally, I did my research for about 2 months online before I ever consulted a physician. When I did, I knew what questions I wanted to ask and didn't go in there with the mindset that I would have surgery, I wanted the guided non surgical weight loss, but I did go through the process as if I was going for WLS so that when the time came to make a decision everything would be done no matter what I decided. Ultimately I opted for WLS because the diet and exercise weren't enough and my medical conditions were stacked against me. This is your journey, research and ask questions...Only you can decide if this is the right decision for you

Yes, my first stall came at the end of my 2 weeks post op and lasted about 2 weeks, I came out of it and now right back in it. Just follow your plan and trust the process. Remember you didn't gain the weight overnight, we won't lose it overnight. Be patient, it will come off.

Did you solve your “head hunger” before surgery?
MargoCL replied to Chevron's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not solve my head hunger prior to WLS. It wasn't until after that I finally understood the difference. And sometimes even now I need reminding. The most important thing to remember is to drink, drink, drink. The more fluids you consume the less hungry you are. -
My dietitian / NUT prior to WLS kept telling me I wasn't eating enough carbs (I haven't seen her yet post WLS, appoint in Dec). And I've been on a yo-yo the last two weeks with weightloss / gain. I have a follow up today with my surgical team and will mention this, but where I was going with this was.... I could distinctly tell pre WLS and now post WLS that if I consume more than 30 Net Carbs per day I will NOT lose weight. I will maintain or gain weight. So my question becomes - How can you be successful going against the NUT when you clearly know what your body is doing and how it's reacting to carbs? I'll let you know what the surgical team says. But at least this time I have it well documented in MFP how the carbs are affecting my weightloss. @Kaseyn2boys - I think you have to find the right "recipe" for you. Remember, no two people are alike and this journey while we have lots of support (from the web and externally), it's our individual journey and we have to find what's right for us. It may require you pushing back to your dietitian but tell her what happens and start tracking for yourself what happens when you increase carbs, decrease carbs, etc... listen to your body. No one knows it better than you.

Better food quality abroad vs here in the US?
MargoCL replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I've noticed this several times over the years of traveling. I somehow manage to lose weight much easier when I'm overseas. Over the last few years, I've visited Eastern Europe and Greece several times and on each trip I lose anywhere from 5 - 10lbs. I'm not doing anything I wouldn't be doing in the US, but I am eating more forbidden foods on my travels and still manage to lose weight. There is definitely something to be said about the processed foods that are found in the US. While in Hungary on two separate occasions this past summer I lost 5lbs each visit and ate bread with nearly every meal, had dessert of ice cream or another sweet and ate the things I would avoid at home. Even when we ate out, I didn't walk away with that bloated feeling as I do here. As soon as I got on the plane and headed back to the US, the bloats came back and I was in misery all over again. Unless you are able to eat "clean" in the US, I really feel like it's much harder to remain healthy here. And for many people, they can't afford to eat clean. -
Surgery in two days in other country tips pleaaase
MargoCL replied to malauraa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can wear jeans, but I doubt you will be comfortable. Honestly I would just wear something comfortable. I don't know how long your flight is, but honestly the last thing you want is to be on a plane with restricting clothes. I would also make sure you pack a bottle to keep full with water. You will definitely want to drink as much water as possible (even though your body will resist) this will help prevent blood clots. -
Hard time staying on plan
MargoCL replied to MassMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ingredients 3 sprigs Dill, fresh - finely chopped, no stems if possible 1 Onion, very small - diced or minced 6 Zucchini squash - peeled and grated 1 tbsp Flour (we have used coconut for keto and real flour prior to keto) 1 tbsp Salt (enough to cover zucchini) 1/2 cup Sour Cream (optional) Wash and peel the zucchini. Use a large holed grater to shred the zucchini Put zucchini shreds in a small bowl, add salt - let it stand about an hour in refrigerator. Before cooking zucchini, squeeze the excess water out. To cook: Using a Med / Large pot add the onion slices, cook till opaque. Add zucchini in pot, then barely cover the squash with water. Add chopped dill. When the zucchini changes to a creamier color, it is done. In a small bowl, flour with a enough water to disolve and make smooth Add the flour to zucchini while stirring to avoid clumps until smooth. If too thick, thin it out by adding 1 tbsp of sour cream, then one tbsp of the cooking liquid that you set aside. Repeat until the desired consistancy is acheived. -
I have a 4 people in my life that know I had surgery. And my BF and I decided not to tell his parents because like yours they are very thin by nature and don't believe in surgery thinking it's the lazy way out. When the holidays roll around and I'm forced to be with them, I'll do exactly as @GreenTealael stated. They already know that my BF and I started our Keto lifestyle at the beginning of the year and my weightloss was much slower than his. So, hopefully it won't stir up any questions. As Charlie75 stated; you need to do what's right for you. This is your journey, not theirs. My only words of advise to you are: be prepared, while we all want the surgery to be a miracle thing and pop out of the hospital at / near our goal weight, that's not reality. Follow the forums, research as much as possible because there will be tough times ahead post surgery too with stalls, not feeling 100%, having doubts or regrets, etc. But remember it's all a part of the process and you need to trust it. In the long run, you will be much happier and healthier. Good luck to you, remember you have an entire web of support at your fingertips.

Did the hospital give you zofran? That should help with the nausea. While I was in the hospital I didn't drink much either, I kept trying just so I could get discharged to go home. And once I was home I felt much better because I was in my own house.

If you are on liquids still you likely won't feel restriction yet. I didn't feel it until I transitioned to pureed food

Surgery in two days in other country tips pleaaase
MargoCL replied to malauraa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long will you be gone? Just the 10 days? I stayed local for my surgery and packed very lightly for my overnight hospital stay and my week at home I stayed in loose comfy clothes. The following week I returned to work and still remained in loose clothing because anything "touching" me was an irritant. So for 2 weeks I lived in maxi skirts and dresses. Weight loss is different for everyone, I came home from hospital (30 hrs later) weighing 5 lbs more than when I went in and it took 3 days too lose those 5 # and another 5 to lose 5 more.
