Hi All: Was wondering if any recent members have had gastric bypass and been diagnosed with RA prior to surgery. Were you taking oral prednisone? How did you cope after surgery? Did symptoms lessen or worsen? Thanks in advance for replies.

How long does the super smell go away? I can't eat anything or keep anything down bc of it. I can smell EVERYTHING! I am 3 weeks post op and last 5 days have been awful.
-
When does it stop!
SimoneMonet replied to Abbey M.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a week post op and mostly my stomach aches when I stand up - and I think it's just b/c my belly is pulling. Otherwise they did give me a LOT of oxycotin. I didn't take any either. I have NO idea what I'm going to do with this stuff..LOL. My incisions do itch tho'. A lot. Which I guess means they are healing. -
New CDC Alert: Drug-Resistant Infections in Dr. Almanza's Grand View Hospital
SimoneMonet replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thank you for the Alert, Alex. Super important. I think there are several members who "were" scheduled with Dr. Almanza for January. -
January surgeries?!
SimoneMonet replied to jessicaalyssa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very important - please be advised if you haven't seen this already. Alex Breacher just posted an Alert since you mentioned you have surgery with Dr. Almanza on 1/21. He has two posts on the forum for notification. ______ On January 9, 2019, The CDC issued a Level 2 Alert about Drug-Resistant Infections at Dr. Almanza's Grand View Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. The Mexican government has closed Grand View Hospital until further notice: Key Points Recently, some US residents returning from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, were diagnosed with infections caused by an antibiotic-resistant form of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. All of the travelers with this particular infection had an invasive medical procedure performed in Tijuana. Most (but not all) of them had weight-loss surgery. About half of those infected had their surgery done at the Grand View Hospital. Based on information provided by the CDC, the Mexican government has closed the Grand View Hospital until further notice. CDC recommends that travelers to Tijuana, Mexico, not have surgery at the Grand View Hospital until the Mexican government can confirm that the drug-resistant form of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria is no longer there We urge all BariatricPal members to stay far away from Dr. Almanza and Grand View Hospital. -
Super neighbor you have. B/c one thing for sure - smells - everything is heightened. I can smell my husband's dinner all the way across the house from a closed room...LOL. Yeah - no extra PTO days. Your boss did you a solid!! Congrats!
-
Hope everything went well for you!!

Glad you're healing up - yep my first day was my MOST painful - they gave me a bottle of Oxycotin but I just wasn't going there. It seems to get easier and less painful day by day but pretty quickly! Yay that you're surgery is complete!!!
-
He *is*..ty! I've been teary-eyed again for the last 10 mins thinking about his kindness. Great boss, good person.

I completely agree. It wasn't by choice I did all of that. Unfortunately my husband is very ill and I had wanted to take the additional days off. Nevertheless, I am going to take it easier and my boss just sent me a note that he'd hire me a housekeeper for the next 4 months. 😮 So that's a little shocking and ever so kind.

So I'm going to tell you. THAT is exactly what has helped me the most was getting out to walk around grocery stores. I have 3 local stores that usually serve HOT low fat soups - it's fun for me to get out and get my HOT soup of the day and for dinner AND...it's definitely fun. I still have picked up an odd thing or two...a Gatorade flavor or unsweetened drink I haven't tried. So SUPER idea getting out to shop....and it IS fun!!

hey there - I actually went back to work Monday? yes, Monday. I apparently ran out of PTO days so! had to go back early. It was ok. My insides are still adjusting to where they need to 'sit'. I have not been able to keep up with everything I need to "eat" as far as fluids. My stomach says it is just too much so I think I'm a little swollen. I did overdo it b/c I also worked my 8-10 hours, washed clothes, vacuumed, cleaned the kitchen washed dishes and then sat down to work. TBH, it *was* TOO much. I didn't feel the best. But by yesterday I was fine again and today I actually feel as though I never had the surgery. I am taking it slow b/c I don't want to risk anything. YAY for only a 24-hour pre-op diet!! That's great. But I have to say, I'm not craving anything. It's so wierd. I only ask that my husband not eat anything crazy in front of me that will turn me into a insane person. I think I do have triggers..LOL. 20 days...the time will FLY!!!! Congrats!!

Hey All - Day 4 Post Op update - I got out into the sun today for about an hour and also walked a local museum. Eating a Bariatric Pal creamy soup for my main meal. I've been mostly hydrating with water and Power Ade. My tastes did change and I'm not a fan of my popsicles anymore and even my favorite PowerAde Flavor I'm not a fan of anymore. Otherwise, I did gain about 7 lbs from the fluids from surgery. I'm back down to my day of surgery weight. Also was worried that I was constipated but nope. (that's not TMI - apparently everyone wonder's when they will poop). Ha! 4 Days post-op but it did happen. Was kinda obsessing about food even though I wasn't hungry - I have very bizarre siblings who were texting pictures of our favorite family curries and what they were eating. We aren't very close - so not sure why they are choosing to do this now. Mean? Clueless? Dunno...but WOW. It did hurt my feelings. Just Why!?!? Anywho so that's why I decided to have a creamy soup to 'fill' me up. Otherwise, doing well. Not heavily fatigued at all. Will take a nap tho' in a bit just to heal. I've been wearing the compression belt non-stop. Have tomorrow and Tues off and then back to work on Wed. HUGS to all of you who have surgery tomorrow and who are doing the liquid diet! Wishing you all well!!!!

Nausea after surgery...what is your experience?
SimoneMonet replied to MissPoodle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I"m 3 days post up. it's smells that set off my nausea. My husbands coffee. Anything too sweet smelling. Also, brusing my teeth. Some of the meds are sickly sweet - the oxycotin and Zofran...Zofran works for me to cut the nausea but leave sthat taste in my mouth and so I have to brush every time. -

Hey ..wanted to mention that compression belt. It makes all the difference. Order one..my doc did not, but I put it on leaving hospital and it prevented the sloshing around of my tummy. Pls in bed.. it helps to move side to side. Made all the difference for me.

Day 3 no stomach pain at all. However, I did not sleep all night due to pain from the IV arm. It burned all night. I put a heating pad on it but to no avail. I've been sipping water. Small amts of protein and I just had a popsicle. Was worried about volume but doing ok.

I had the Laproscopic RNY Gastric Bypass - forgot that in my reply to you.

Well, I packed a small suitcase but nothing in it was used. No need for robe. Just charger, phone or tablet, hairbrush, clothes to put on for way home, but I just put on the ones I wore there. Eye drops if you want. That's all I needed. Sent from my VS988 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi All, one day later..I am home. Admittedly in a little pain, but tolerable. Check in wa 6 am yesterday, surgery at 8: 15 to recovery by 10 in room by 2. The heating pad was for the back ache caused by the surgery table, to control pain, and help dispel gas. I highly recommend it. They wouldn't let me use mine even tho' surgeon recommended it but room put in an order for it had it by 6pm. Was up and walking by 7. Worst experience was nausea from the sickly sweet Tylenol, gabepetin, hydrocortisone liquid after surgery meds. Sipped water by time got to room, but they would not allow ice chips. I had such a dry mouth still do. Walked again at midnight, and at 5 am. My potassium IV was hell, it burned so badly. I was grumpy with nurses - apologized. : \ My 8 am walk was a breeze but I still had surgery gas to dispel. You can tell bc your shoulder might hurt. Was packed and ready to go by 11. Had a wait at hospital pharmacy for oxycotin...BUT now home, climbed the fifteen steps to 2nd foot easily, but honestly my gut is sore. Started the protein in room, did not want to stay down but now doing fine. They did say to expect pain. I have minor soreness. That's all. Thanks for all well wishes, on phone do can't quote ppl. Y'all will be fine. I'm the biggest wimp in world, so you can do it!! Sent from my VS988 using BariatricPal mobile app

My husband did buy champagne for tonight. He just wants to pop the bottle and welcome the New Year.Even if I only have a sip and not the whole glass. And obviously with my surgery being Jan 2nd...it's definitely going to be a new kinda year!
