    prayer requests for LBT'ers

How's your dad doing DeAnn? I hope all is going well. Praying for all the requests. I have a request that I would like to keep "unspoken" for now. We used to have those kind of requests at my home church. Thanks in advance!!

    Flip a Coin?

Hi sisterfunkhaus ~ Just read your update on the May thread....glad to hear your doing well...me too!! We were banded the same day. :biggrin1: This post was meant to be helpful and not condescending to lap band patients. I know you've been here for awhile, but have you ever been surprised at some of the questions people ask? Even AFTER their band? Some people don't even know what to eat. :cry I have read where someone was shocked to find out that death was a complication.....WHAT.....they didn't know that? I know you've done your research and so have I, but maybe this thread will help just one person. It is full of truths and I found the tone to be very friendly. I hope you reconsider the tone and realize it wasn't meant to offend. Take care and I look forward to sharing your journey!!!
  3. For those of you getting your band in June, you may want to consider joining this thread as well: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=18534&highlight=June. I joined the the May group and it has been wonderful!! Good luck to all!!

    Flip a Coin?

You make an excellent point and I agree. WLS is an elective surgery and shouldn't be taken lightly. I think some people overlook the fact that death is a real possibility....in any surgery for that matter. One needs to be smart about it and do research. In addition, I prayed and had total peace. I realize some don't do that, but personally, I couldn't face tomorrow without the Lord. I disagree to a certain point on the RNY/band thing. Some of what you said is true however, some people cheat the RNY too and there are many that gain weight back with the band and RNY. It seems to be my motto lately (hey, I think I'll put it in my signature line) that addiction is managed, not cured. I heard Dr. Phil say that & it hit me like a ton of bricks. Regardless if what type of surgery you have, you still need to manage the food put in your mouth.

What a sweetie and so typical!! I am also thankful our prayers were answered and she doesn't need the shots. Now is the time to let it all out mom!! You are a great mother!! :clap2:

    Is it worth it??

Addiction is managed not cured. Getting a band or any type of surgery will not give you permanent weight lose unless you change the habits that contribute to your food addiction. Some may say they don't have a food addiction, but IMHO if you are overweight, you have issues with food in one way or another. To me, it would not be worth the risk at your weight/BMI. I did the Optifast program last year and lost 32 lbs in 3 mos. Here's the link: http://www.optifast.com/index.jsp. I would strongly suggest this route or something like it. Like you, I had tried just about everything out there. Optifast is a good program, but it also takes work. Being overweight is difficult whether you are 30 lbs or 100 lbs overweight. Take your time and do lots of research in whatever you decide. I wish you the best!!

    Why can't I lose!!!!!!

Definitely check with your nutritionist. They are a valuable resource that was paid for when you got the band. You will not necessarily lose weight if you eat small amounts. Our bodies are amazing and they will go into starvation mode if they are getting too little. The answer may be in eating more. Good Luck!!

Are you ready to be a parent?

It is not good to laugh this hard when your port is still sore. I'm going to read it again next week. SO FUNNY and TRUE!!

    Green Pee and Weird Dreams

Thanks Myra....I feel so much better now. Is it supposed to stay in your system this long? Now I'm wondering if there could be something up with my kidneys if it's taking this long to pass through. What do you think? I should hear back from the surgeon tomorrow.
  11. I still have green pee. They told me in the hospital it was the dye they used during surgery and it would pass. I had my surgery on Fri. Shouldn't this green stuff have passed through by now? Also, did anyone else experience weird vivid dreams? I am dreaming a lot now and they are wierd....not scary.....just different and vivid, more than usual. I remember trying to grab a set of keys that was falling to the floor and I woke up with my port more sore than yesterday. I know I grabbed for those stupid keys in my dream. :phanvan I wonder if this is from the Vicodin? I was finally weening off of it and this morning, I couldn't wait to take a Tbls.....good stuff for pain. :biggrin1:
  12. :welcomeB: Hi julesings ~ Welcome to LBT!! I was banded on 5-26 and gained 5 lbs in the hospital. That is now gone along with 2.5 more lbs. Definitely all the fluids. Be thankful you didn't have green pee like me. I was beginning to feel like a loner on that one until Myra told me the name of it.....they use a dye during surgery. :phanvan Here's to losing many pounds and I hope you post often.
  13. Boy, you got me on this one! :heh: Maybe it's someones head....you better check!!

Where did I go? Who am I now?

Jacqui ~ That's exactly how I feel. I don't see the fat person in the mirror that everyone else sees on the outside. I feel like a thin person inside. I guess it is a form of denial. I would see a pic and think holy cow, who is that, it can't be me. I have always known from a young age who I am and what I stand for.....things do change as you wise up and grow older, but my value system is still the same. It's obvious I deal with emotional eating which has contributed to me becoming MO, but some of that has even been financial struggles and has nothing to do with my core person. I can't wait to transform though. At St. Vincent, they have the butterfly as a mascot. I sent my DH to buy one in the gift shop and don't you know, they were closed! :phanvan Anyway, the point is, we are all coming out of our cocoons and turning into beautiful butterflies. Spread you wings and fly!!

    Two sizes of Lap-Bands available

My preband research not only included LBT, but the Inamed site and many others. Here's a link with all their bands and the VanGuard is indeed one of them: http://www.allerganandinamed.com/products/obesity/us/clinician/lapband/prodinfo.html I asked my surgeon prior to surgery which one he thought I would need and it was the one I ended up with, the 10.0 cm band. Also, I requested the box it came in to keep preband thoughts & threads from LBT. I also requested the serial number (which was on the box) in the event I would ever need it. I'm a detailed person that tends to want too much info rather than depending on someone else. I think all surgeons keep the serial number, but good luck getting info out of some medical offices. :phanvan If there has been a leak identified in someone's band, I can compare serial numbers to identify a possible production issue. I am not a negative person and do not intend to ever need this info, but I'm prepared in the event I need it. I love details!! :biggrin1:

    I've learned the hard way

I see your point Murphles b/c I thought the same thing. One thing that came to my mind though is that I don't think I had an actual PB and perhaps you didn't either. I think there is a difference between vomit and PB. A PB, in most cases, can be avoided. Vomiting on the other had, can be related to meds and the condition of your stomach after surgery. When I vomited on Sat (the day after surgery) I didn't have the slime and the nausea started after I had taken one of my meds. I only had Water come out....not slime and trust me, I was 100% compliant.....nothing less.....I followed the rules exactly!! This tells me it was a different thing and I've had a couple others on here tell me it was probably post-op sickness. I hope your stomach is doing better now. :biggrin1: I stayed off any pill meds for 1 day and gradually started taking them again. Tomorrow will be my first day with ALL my pill meds. Take care and baby yourself in the beginning.

    I'm a little freaked

I don't know about you, but waiting is not my thing. Do you have an urgent care facility in your area? Some people use them as their PCP. I don't think I would wait that long to get into the dermatologist. It is probably nothing, but it's better to know than later. Good luck!!

    a bat bit my daughter

Oh good, I'm glad she's getting treatment, but I do hate that she has to endure it. Bless her little heart. When you looked up bats on the net, did you also look up what their poops looks like? Maybe that's something you DH can be watching for tomorrow. Sounds like he is the best person to have a go at it. Hold your baby close and we will keep praying!!
  22. I was banded on May 26th. The only pain has been from my port incision. Pain and burning everytime I moved or got out of bed. When asked in the hospital, my pain was usually a 7 out of 10. Keep in mind though that I'm a big baby. I don't take pain very well.....give me pain meds. It's mostly gone today....very minimal, 4 days later. I've also had some shoulder pain in the area of my left collar bone & I know it's gas. A heating pads helps along with walking and an occasional GasX. I'm still not 100%, but getting close with each passing day. Congratulations to ALL of you for your decision to take the lap band journey. I know I did the right thing for me and would do it again in a heart beat. I wish you all the very best!! :clap2:

Oh mini, this must be terrifying for you as a mother. You are on top of things for sure. Keep going. Don't let the daycare tell you they don't know anything about it. Get the owners involved ASAP. An employee may just be trying to protect the business...or even an owner at that. Your little girl is just too precious to put that stuff over her well being. I would not wait till tomorrow b4 calling her doc. Call the night line and have the doc on call paged. At least they can give you solid direction. Perhaps you do need a trip to the ER just to be safe. I will pray for both of you. Please keep us updated!!!

    Green Pee and Weird Dreams

Does sound like a Dr Seuss book, huh? I LMOR today at the surgeons about the green pee. Don't think it's a big deal, but wanted to follow-up just incase. No hunger pains today, but man, there seems to be more food commercials than I remember. Those manly Burger King Whoppers look dreamy......maybe I could just suck some juice out of it......kidding of course. :heh: I have been very sleepy today and seem to be a bit light-headed. My DH thinks it's a lack of Protein, so I'm sipping on my Isopure Zero Carb in place of Water to see if that helps. Not much pain and even had a BM. :clap2: Only bandsters would talk about green pee and their first BM.
