May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

Does anyone experience port pain when using the muscles in the area where your port is located? Mine is on the left side and I'm in extreme pain if I try to get up from a sitting position from the floor, no problem when on a chair or sofa. It's a burning pain that goes away shortly after I get up. :cry There was a time that I thought I had pulled something this past weekend b/c of using those muscles. I'm almost 4 wks out (will be this Fri) and I'm hoping someone will tell me this will eventually go away. Any thoughts or similar experiences? I've sent an e-mail to the nurse to see what she has to say.

Oh DeAnn, sounds like a rough day. Tomorrow will be better. :biggrin1: Kudos to you for facing your fears and starting to work with a trainer!!! WTG!!! Maybe you could alternate the days with Curves and the gym. Perhaps it was too much on the same day. Now you've got me thinking about a gym. I'll have to find out if there is one around here. I started looking at the papers for exercise equipment and garage sales & such. As you know, I've been praying for those precious little girls. I can only imagine what a burden they are carrying. Keep us posted on how their doing.

    Funniest Kid Stories...

Here's some more from the same article as above. They feature this article once a week and it's my favorite. MELANIE (age 5) asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, "If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six." STEVEN (age 3) hugged and kissed his Mom goodnight. "I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window." BRITTANY (age 4) had an earache and wanted a painkiller. She tried In vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her mom explained it was a childproof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: "How does it know it's me? SUSAN (age 4) was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. "Please don't give me this juice again," she said, "It makes my teeth cough." DREW (age 4) stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: "How much do I cost?" MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: "Why is he whispering in her mouth?" CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried. When his mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, "I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in?" JAMES (age 4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." Concerned, James asked: "What happened to the flea?" TAMMY (age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for awhile and then asked, "Why doesn't your skin fit your face?" The Sermon I think this mom will never forget.... this particular Sunday sermon..."Dear Lord," the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. "Without you, we are but dust." He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was listening!) leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"

    Funniest Kid Stories...

This is a story about my oldest son. It was published in the local paper. Yesterday, we had a small thunderstorm go through the area and I was busy unplugging the major electronic equipment such as the TV's and computers. My boys were in tow and became frightened by the thunder. I told them that was just the angels in heaven. The phone rang and I didn't want to use the handset because of the storm, so I hit the speaker button. It was my sister-in-law, Becky. I told her we were having a storm and I would need to call her back. Immediately after hanging up, Bobby my 4 yr old son, asked, "Mommy, why did the angel call?" I told him that wasn't an angel, it was his Aunt Becky. He said, "Oh, I don't know that angel." I had to giggle.

    R U a NASCAR Fan...Let's Talk!

Yup....I totally agree. I wasn't cool the way he spun in the garage area. He still needs a lot of work on that temper. It's OK to have a temper, but don't put others at risk b/c of it. I still love him though. I feel like he's a little boy that needs a hug and swift kick in the butt. :biggrin1: Maybe I would just grab his butt. Do you think that would work?

Here is a picture of my new townhouse....

Mandy ~ It looks beautiful from the outside and sounds super on the inside too. You should post pics on the inside after you get settled. Our first house as a married couple was a tri-level and I LOVED it. The laundry was just outside the bedrooms and it was so convenient. Thanks for sharing and post more pics!!!

    Job news

Alexandra ~ I do understand the disappointment this news brings through the experiences of my DH. The past year, he has had many interviews that seemed to be great possibilities. Many times he was in the top 3 interviewing with the top brass. We are so blessed he recently secured a new job within a short distance of our home. It finally happened at the perfect time and the pay & benefits outweigh anything we considered previously. He now has many opportunities within this new job. :biggrin1: Stay strong and keep the confidence in yourself. You have now sharpened your interviewing skills for the next opportunity. All things do work out for the best. Sometimes it just takes a little time to see it. Hugs to you!!

    Green Stool

I had green pee for the longest time after surgery....almost a week. The surgeon said it was indeed the blue dye that is used.

    Exercise Equipment

I only have Pilate's DVD's...which gives me a headache, taebo...which I loved to do until I got too big, and an exercise band. I always thought I wanted an elliptical machine since I thought it was easier on your knees. Now, I guess I should reconsider. So many of you seem to prefer the treadmills. How do your knees hold up? Are they sore after exercising?

    Insomnia anyone?

I took Ambien CR b4 the band, but it kicks my butt now. I don't want to wake up for some reason. I guess my body is going through some changes and regrouping after surgery. My surgeon recommended plain Benedryal. I have never had any symptoms of withdrawal from the Ambien CR, so perhaps I can go back on it someday. For now, it's the Benedryal.

    R U a NASCAR Fan...Let's Talk!

So where are all the NASCAR fans? I got kind of bored Sunday when Tony was taken out early. I hope his shoulder will still be O.K. How about that cute Kasey Kahne? My goodness, that little kid has taken 3rd place in the standings. My little brother has now taken him as his driver. He hasn't had one since Bill Elliott left. Bristol is my favorite track, but next Sun we will be going to a road course which is a close second to being a favorite. There is just something about those tracks I love. Well, if any of you fans are still out there.....let me know what you think of the recent weeks. :director:

    Abnormal Pap

YEAH Leener!!! Somehow, I just felt that in my heart. I can feel your excitement and relief!!! I am just so thrilled to hear you say those words (or at least read them). Stay positive and now you can put all your effort into the band. :biggrin1:
  18. Debi ~ My surgeon tended to encourage RNY over lapband as well b/c a lot of patients fail to follow the rules. It's a matter of having a clear understanding of what it takes to work the band and be willing to make the changes. The way I made the decision was coming to grips with the fact that no matter what WLS I chose, I still had to make changes in the way I ate and the way I viewed food. People fail at RNY and lapband b/c they fail to make changes and make those changes permanent. It takes work either way. For me personally, I liked the fact that I could have a tool, the lapband, to help me make those changes with minimal surgery that could be totally reversed with little complications if necessary. I am the mother of 2 small children and want more someday.....the less risk the better. Like others have already said, it is a personal decision you have to make. This site is VERY pro-band for obvious reasons. It does work if you are willing to make the changes. It is up to you to do the research and ask LOTS of questions. I got down on my knees and prayed. I had no reservation this was for me and had total peace with my decision. I will pray for the Lord to guide your steps in making such a huge life-changing decision. I wish you the very best. Keep in touch and let us know what you decide. You are always welcome here regardless of what surgery you choose.

    Have I got a Story?

Holy Cow!! You've been through enough for 2 lifetimes. Bless your heart!! I hope you are now on the upward swing. Did you have your surgery in Cincy? I am very interested in your surgeon. Who was she/he? How many bands have they placed? Where was this horrible hospital? This should have never happened to you and from what you have described, could have been avoided. I would definitely be looking for another surgeon ASAP. The level of care your rec'vd was unacceptable. Find someone else for your aftercare. You will be glad you did.

    I have the hiccups....

I just had them myself. I chewed a GasX and they were gone almost immediately. Good luck.

    Abnormal Pap

Glad to hear your surgery experience was somewhat pleasant (at least for surgery that is). I've had 2 epidurals when I delivered my babies and I would do it again in a heartbeat. We will continue to lift you in prayer. Keep your chin up and stay positive!!! You are going to be fine!!! :biggrin1:

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

CLOE ~ I just had my check-up on Mon and my surgeon said the same thing. I'm to start eating the solid foods until I'm full that way we can see how I react to determine if a fill is necessary. Since I've only been on liquids, we can't really determine the need of a fill. I get full easy even with soft foods so at this point, I'm thinking it will be a while for a fill. I am OK with that. Kim ~ It's great to hear from you!! Glad your doing well....I've lost 12 lbs too. :biggrin1: Did you get the food lists I sent? I hate taking pills too & get that stuck feeling. Laurapar started a thread about this.... http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19680. Seems a few of us are experiencing this. Talk about your band soreness....I have been doing great in this area until last night. I heard my cat outside getting into a fight and jumped up so fast I felt my port pull. It seems to be fine today, but it was sore last night. Cat is fine too. Poor thing ran in the house & her tail was about 3 times it's regular size and her eyes were about to pop out of her head. Trip2bme ~ I love your enthusiasm. You are a great inspiration and much appreciated!!

    Lifestyle after surgery question.

Hi Teresa ~ Most programs include both things you mentioned, a nutritionist and some sort of exercise program in addition to a nurse. I see the nutritionist EVERY time I have an appt with the surgeon. Also, most do offer monthly support groups where you can talk with others face to face. I was the only lap band person when I attended, so I use this place for my support. Eventually, I would like to see them get a monthly support group for lap band patients....we'll see. Good luck and keep asking questions. Be a sponge and absorb as much as you can. I strongly believe success with the band comes from knowledge. Arm yourself with as much as you can.
