    Menstrual prob

Me TOO!!! Because of my weight I was hardly having periods. My last was in Februrary (nice Valentines Day Surprise) I finally got one two weeks ago (this time for my Anniversary) and I thought I was going to die. I even had to take time off work for it. Cramps, migraines, nausea, ridiculous hunger, and enough flow to almost make me pass out with anemia. The whole package. But I have to admit I was rejoicing in most all of it, because the reason I had this procedure was to be able to have babies in a healthy way. Getting a period again (no matter how miserable it was) means that I am fertile again. WOOT!!!

    Vomiting Blood

Fresh red blood, and very little of it. In only one of the vomit blobs. If it were like coffee grounds I would be at the ER right now. I have seen patients with that, and I know better. There was so little of it, it was really hard to tell if it was blood or maybe just something dark from the food.
  3. That is how much money you are allowed to be charged in a calendar year before your insurance will cover at 100% of the "allowable rate" (how much the Dr. is contracted to receive from the insurance company and you. Usually it's way less than the actual cost). This amount does not include your deductible. My out of pocket is $2500 with a $250 deductible, but I have BC of california and they don't cover for the after care so my Doctor also charged me a "Fee" to cover all the other parts of the procedure that my insurance doesn't cover. I can still choose to attempt to submit to my insurance and get reimbursement from them, but that's just not going to happen. Dr's actually end up eating a lot of the cost for procedures because they would rather have the contracts with the insurance companies and get paid less than be cash only providers. They at least have some guaranteed payment from the insurance company even if it isn't enough to cover the actual cost of the procedure. Sadly because a lot of patients don't understand their insurance contracts they don't understand that they still have to pay what they are responsible for. A lot of the times they just don't pay. That's why a lot of surgery centers (the one I work at included) charge up front before the procedure. They are all getting stiffed by patients that just don't understand their responsibilities. When you get your explanation of benefits (EOB) don't freak out at what the Dr. Submits as the charge for the insurance. ONLY look at what the insurance says is your responsibility. I have EOB's where the Doctor has submitted for blood tests in the amount of $600 but the contracted rate with my insurance is actually only $40 and my responsibility is only 20% of the $40. So of course for my $600 blood test I am only paying $8. EOB's can cause people to freak out, but don't. Wait till you get the bill from the Doctor and compare it to what your EOB says you should pay. If they aren't the same then call your Doctors billing office and ask them why. They should lower it to your insurance responsibility and if they don't then report them to your insurance and they can loose their contract and get charged with Fraud. Keep on top of all your statements and keep all your EOB's for your records.

No, but you should call your Doctor immediately. You may be having an allergic reaction to something you are taking.

To stay or not to stay...

I had a choice. I decided that I wanted to go home. I just wanted to be in my own bed. But, I do think that pain management would have been better at the hospital. I didn't have such an easy time with the pain as most everyone else seemed to, and I consider myself to have a pretty high pain tollerance. My wisdom teeth extractions were a piece of cake and I never needed pain meds for them. But this was a completely different animal. You may want to reserve your right to choose untill you see how you are feeling post op. I filled out all the paperwork as if I were staying the night, and chose to go home. Please pardon my spelling.
  6. I had my surgery the day before you did, and I was in the same boat. I realized that I needed to have protein heavy breakfasts. I usually scramble 2 eggs and that can hold me long enough for lunch. Now from lunch to dinner is another story. At lunch time I can eat eat eat. No restriction with the swelling gone. Again I am really trying to load up on the proteins. Usually some kind of bean dish along with tofu, or (i know it's gross to a lot of people) but I also eat braunsweiger, or liverwurst. It helps a bit. I usually get home and have a 4oz yogurt or some cottage cheese to hold me till my husband gets home for dinner.

Vegetarian-any good ideas for sources of protein?

Same as always. Beans and Tofu. The tofu also really helps durring your mushy phase of the post op diet. And don't forget the protein drinks. They really help a lot.
  8. Find your old Dr. and have him refer you to someone. Physicians will never leave a practice without leaving someone to take care of their current patients. Doctors are pretty cool when it comes to being referred by a fellow physician. They will usually allow you into their practice without having done your procedure.

48 hrs post op gas and pain

I had my band placed last Monday. I cut the intestinal gas by using gas-x strips and a heating pad. But the best thing I did was cut dairy. Apparently I don't do well with lactose. I cut it a couple days ago and I haven't felt better. See if that helps. The gas from the procedure just needs time to come out. There really isn't anything that can be done about that. Just like everyone says. Walk it off.
  10. Hello and Good Morning to all It's 1:00am the day after my procedure, and I hurt. I have been taking my pain medications every 4 hours and they make a wonderful dent allow me to just sleep through the pain. Sadly, it's 1am and I now hurt so badly when I lay down. While searching through these posts I have seen a lot of people recommend recliners. Sadly I don't have one in my tiny apartment. Any other suggestions so I can sleep relatively pain free? Thanks, Jennifer
