New sleevers: Anyone else simply exhausted and napping?
lionsofmercy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have sleep apnea and insomnia, so I'm used to my sleep being disturbed. But I haven't really woken up for a couple of days! I've only lost 10 pounds since the surgery (6/13) and I'm afraid this is some insidious plot by my body to reduce my metabolism. What do I do? Let me rephrase that: What do I do without coffee? -
New sleevers: Anyone else simply exhausted and napping?

I did take an oxy last night, but wouldn't have expected 5 mg to have had such an effect. I don't expect to take one tonight, so we'll see. -
Liquid intake post op day 8 gastric sleeve..
lionsofmercy replied to lbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could be wrong, but it seems the limiting factor for me at least is the esophageal spasm. (My tum also has this new trick of trying to burp while I'm swallowing, which makes matters worse.) Warm liquids work better for me--in fact, I tend to forget and go too fast! But I'm not doing as well as you are when it comes to just water. Maybe try changing up your clear liquids? Good luck--they did warn us this was hard work, they were just vague about it! -
Any June 2018 Sleevers in Here?!
lionsofmercy replied to BurpeeZombie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
June 13th! Icky as all the I-just-had-major-surgery stuff is, at least I don't have the anxiety of waiting and the frustration of the pre-op diet anymore. Big non-offensive hugs to those still in queue. -
How do you take pills that need to be taken with food?
lionsofmercy replied to Mhy12784's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For a long time I have taken pills with pudding. (I'm a crappy pill swallower.) The only difference now is that I use only about 2 teaspoons of pudding instead of finishing a dish! -
Eggdrop Soup, better than broth.
lionsofmercy replied to BlueGirl1920's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
OK, I'm puzzled here on day #8 post-sleeve. My program's nutritionist advocated eggdrop soup for the Stage 2 liquid diet. But what about the eggs? Don't they count as solid? I tried to compromise and sorta ate around most of them, and I must admit tummy is happy despite having gotten some egg. (This is the Chinese take-out variety--we're out of broth here now.) -
Tincture of time. I'd give it a while before panicking that you Have Something New. (You do; you have a new tummy and all your innards are cranky.) You were probably intubated during your procedure, and your poor esophagus got yanked around. I'm a week out, and mine is getting much better. Teeny sips, and hang in there!

Good to know. But we can have issues, apparently. On my fourth or fifth day post-op, I was alone so treated myself to a toot. Imagine my dismay when my solo was, um, not just musical but liquid as well. Glaring at my undies in the bathroom trash, I scrubbed for what seemed like ten minutes to mop up this THICK BLACK SLUDGE--it reminded me of printer's ink. I was terrified to ever leave the house again, let alone enter a pool or something, but my nurse manager explained that it was all the blood left over from the surgery. Yeesh!

Please tell me I’m not the only one!
lionsofmercy replied to BrookeR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My son's homemade beef stew broth has been my salvation, here at a week out. (My plan doesn't allow me to switch stages for at least a week, so no cottage cheese for moi!) Just the basics, like another poster said. (Have to get that little thing you use to pour under the fat, though! Other than that, my savory saviour is V8, although it can rile my heartburn a little. For six months pre-op I swilled down one and then two shakes a day made with Six Stars, but now I can barely choke it down. Of course.
