Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Take care of yourself, Lap...that's what this is all about:smile2: DON'T YOU DARE PUT HER IN OREGON or....or...or...i don't know, but sumthin' My fill is at 3:15; so will I be on time or late with 5:30 scheduled? I am sooooo excited to meet people:hurray: Welcome, Cassy....great choice! well, we spent 4 days at our place in Central Oregon high desert. Beautiful weather. Tucker is doing okay. He won't eat consistently: both in frequency and in the menu. What he will eat one day, he puts his nose up the next. Right now he will eat eggs, cheese, and bbq hamburger. I am thinking of opening everything in my pantry and let him pick what he wants! He gets his stitches out Tuesday. Getting anxious about my first fill!! -

Oh, one more thing. This sipping water thing between meals: I can't get nearly the water I had before. I am not a sipper. Can we just drink water in between meals like a normal person if we aren't grazing? I eat 2-3 meals a day. Might have one snack: sugarfree jello, sf pudding, sf popsicle..something like that. I prefer drinking water to eating that stuff, so as long as I have stopped drinking 30 minutes before a meal, can I DRINK water? Anyone wanna check in on this. -

Brandy, glad to hear u r feeling better. Mal: good to hear from u again. I don't think 6:30 would be a problem on 23rd. I have no idea where this place is in relation to airport. I just have to get the rental car back and board the plane that leaves at 9:30. I figure I don't have to check in that early for a flight that late and with no luggage. Okay, so now i am po'ed... New scales, right? Been doing my regular weigh in. Last weekend I got on and off six times to dispel my fog as it read way too little. Finally I got the same number three times in a row. So, it's gotta be right!Right?Wrong....Two days later it is reading 11 pounds more!!:tt2::cool2: With lasix!! Hell, I have no idea how much I weigh or have lost now. Anyone else had issues with their digital "pals"? So disheartening. How can one not lose weight on a variety of daily caloric intake that can be 550 to 900 a day!! I know I have to move, too, but gawd a snail could lose weight on those numbers:scared2: Any advice? -

You shouldn't have any prob. Ask for a wheelchair to take you to the terminal. I had my operation on a Wed. and flew out on thurs. afternoon. Plus I was lucky: i never had any real pain or discomfort at all. Every individual is diff. But the wheelchair really helped; plus if u are in first class you automatically get to board first, so that's good. Ask for the belt extender so you have very little pressure on stomach. Good luck. -

Mini: your idea about Oregon coast: of course, I would say that's the perfect way to do it! But I am prejudiced, being a native Oregonian. Okay, I am going to say that I am feeling a little down now.....I have asked twice if anyone wanted to meet for a bite on the Tuesday I fly in and out for my fill and no one acknowledged my request, let alone say they might meet me....oh, wait, Denver, you mentioned something earlier. What's up, girls? As I recall, it was Dee who had the gas problem on the bench:blink:! I haven't been there long enough to stink it up yet!! Sheesh....:sad::sad::sad::sad: I am feeling very alone:crying::confused: Possibly could drive me to drink!:martini_shaken: Doesn't anyone want to meet for an adult beverage of some kind:beer_yum: -

Gosh, lots of positive stuff in the last 24 or so hours! Dork: cute glasses! congrats on NSVs... tucker update (ignore if you are tired of dog talk:wink2:) He is doing great. No coughing, freight train breathing, or vomiting. He is eating more in quantity and in frequency. He is getting stronger in his back legs (all the better to hop up into my favorite chair). We are so optimistic about his future; it will be our responsibility to make sure he eats and drinks in a correct posture...a flat plane position. Good news for me! I calculated that I have lost 20 lbs. since surgery, which was only 17 days ago, making a total of almost 34 lbs so far:lol: As I mentioned earlier, I am coming on 23rd for my first fill and have to say I am a little anxious about it. I have had no probs so far at all and I am envisioning trouble after a fill. Tell me, am I being anxious for no reason? -

Boy, i've wanted to comment and report but the site wouldn't accept my password and it has taken 2-3 days to get it straightened out:tongue_smilie:Anyway, congrats to Denver for surviving the first few days. I stuck with Vitarain by Kirkland, SF jello and jello pudding, tomato soup, steamed veggies, oatmeal, etc. for several days. Right now am thinking about going back to it since I am stuck here at 25.6 lost for a few days with eating "normal" food! Will jumpstart something, I am sure. Update on Tucker: Well, he still has pneumonia, but the dr. said yesterday there really isn't anything else they can do since he won't eat. therefore, doc said we should take him home to see if being at home would calm him enough that he would eat. we have a shit load of drugs to give him, but can't if he won't eat. His breathing has been very steady and "normal" since he has been home, just a few bouts of panting. Wouldn't eat last night or this morning, but am happy to report 15 minutes ago I handfed him about 2 ounces of cooked hamburger! Not much but a start! Hopefully, my boy is on his road to food and good health! Thanks again to all of you who prayed, chanted, lit candles, etc. he had great people all over the US rooting for him:thumbup: My first fill with Dr. K is Tuesday, sept. 23. My plane arrives at about 11:30 am and I am renting a car. Appt isn't until 3:00 and my plane doesn't leave until 9PM. Anyone up for a quick bite in early afternoon or evening. I sure would like to put a face to all these smart-ass comments....er...I mean all these great conversationalists!! -

Denver: hope all went well today. i know i can hardly believe it has been only two weeks since my surgery. I have felt fine since leaving the hospital!! I bet you will too. Tucker update: Just got back from seeing him today. He has to be on oxygen and IV nourishment (he won't eat). Good news (?) although the pneumonia is worse today than yesterday, it wasn't as bad as dr. thought it was going to be (new radiographs...is that newspeak for xrays?). I bawled through my entire visit with him. His sides and chest are shaved; he has tubes going in everywhere; he pants really hard. It's killin' me. Dr. will call again tonight after rounds. Food is the last thing on my mind these days. Now alcohol, that's another story. I want so badly to drink beer, but I did manage to down a bottle of wine last evening..I know...bad choice as Dr. K says:sad:....oh, well... -

Hi, girls, just checking in late tonight as I just don't know what else to do. My big guy made it through the second surgery (no mass was found). We did a "little" celebratory dance; however, the dr. called a half hour later to say there was pneumonia in one lung. We are currently hitting $12K for this, but I can't say just : Okay, that is more than we want to spend. Like I said before, I know others think this is crazy, but he is my boy. -

Greenie: I always go back to the Atkins style since I am such a carnivore. However, I haven't eaten any meat since being banded, so I don't know how I would tolerate steak or pork chops, but that is what I usually crave. Pastas and such aren't a big deal for me. Potatoes are the only carb I miss when on Atkins. But I lost like 10 pounds before surgery. Thanks all of you who sent me hugs for Tucker. He has his surgery today;I will see him in a couple of hours. So hard to have those big chocolate lab eyes follow me out the door....and he doesn't get to go.:tt2: -

Adork: I am at 296.6 which is 5 pounds this past week and 19.9 for the challenge...wow..didn't quite realize that:smile2: I have been so focused on my dog that i wasn't watching me. I am definitely in for the next challenge. I am having my first fill sometime the week of Sept. 22, I think, and obviously I have no clue how that affects my eating/losing. So..hmmm..maybe 15 pounds for the challenge? doggie update: Tucker made it through the first surgery. However, the radiologist wants to do an endoscopy before doing the hernia surgery as he is afraid it might not be a hernia but a mass of some sort. Of course, I would prefer a benign mass over anything else, but can't be sure of that. Also a little pneumonia in part of a lung (but not symptomatic) and they are sending out thyroid screen for check on hypothyroidism. I know this all sounds outlandish to those of you with kids and other family, but Tucker IS my baby and costs just aren't important...at this point I can't say I would spend this much but not that much. Am sorry to hear about families that stress out their members. Just hold on, and come back here for the support you deserve. One thing this group of bandsters has shown is that it seems as if there is one of us on here who has experienced similar situations and is able to give sound advice. Take care all of you. -

there are so many responses I want to give to each of you, but emotionally am drained. tucker had LAR-PAR surgery this afternoon. He came out all right, but postop problems of bleeding and infection are still possibilities. Unfortunately, he is not out of the woods. They found he has a hiatal hernia (between esophagus and stomach...probably all u nurses already know that:closedeyes:) and he would be at high risk of regurging into his lungs and getting aspiration pneumonia. so he will have abdominal surgery on tuesday to correct that. so please, once again, cross all those appendages for the boy...god bless him, he is the sweetest guy and is being very stoic through all this...not so much for the mother. I am a mess. hello to you all...congrats on losses, tatts, nsv's, etc. glad to see some lately absentees back....i will update in a couple of days. -

Mal: Hey, girl, this isn't just a place to get/give advice about weight loss, you know. This is where warm hearts reach out to those of us who are/were just embarking on this whole journey, like me in May and Denvergirl now. We need the reassurance that we are afraid we won't get elsewhere. Only other women (men don't get it usually) who have been overweight know the pain/happiness on a journey like this....plus we love your Basset:tt2:Denver: i have no children, but i didn't even tell my folks until the middle of July. Not because they wouldn't be supportive but because i didn't want them to worry. Other than a carefully chosen group of friends, I have told no one. I don't plan to as it is a personal journey. I don't want to feel as if I am being "watched" or "judged" by others. Not that they would, but I know I would have that feeling. -

well, fellow animal lovers, it is serious time again with Tucker. he has been improving soooo much, getting strength back and eating well. This morning he had another respiratory distress incident (couldn't breathe/tongue turning blue). We RUSHED across town to the emergency hospital where he is now. They have him sedated and are giving him oxygen. If he is up to it, they are going to perform unilateral LP surgery on him on Sunday. They will stitch back one of the paralyzed sides of larnyx so that he can breathe. The problem with that surgery is that it leaves the patient vulnerable to aspiration pneumonia. Right now, we are just praying that he isn't too weakened by this that surgery isn't an option. Keep sending prayers, chants, and positive thoughts to the Northwest. -

They are a hoot. Always have been. I figure I can get up that time once a month to keep them from getting behind the wheel and driving one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in Oregon. It is known as Blood Alley from all headon deaths. I get to spend a good twelve hours with them and it puts a plus in my "good daughter" column. Of course, I am their only daughter, their only child actually. What are they gonna do? Disown me:tt2: -

good job, Green, on reporting the crazy woman. Adork: thumbs up on the promotion, prize, etc. Roof repairs, obviously:thumbdown: We have a slight problem with a leak right now, but nothing like yours. Good luck on that. Great pix, ladies, wish i could be there some time to meet y'all. Maybe someday. Just got back from another casino run with the folks. Gawd, they love it! i got up at 2:45 this morning and we were off by 4; home by 2 with about 6 and a half hours of gambling in between. Whew....:tt2: Am moving into soft food now. How does cottage cheese work for you guys? I had scrambled eggs with tabasco at casino this morning; gotta say not drinking water while eating is going to be tough for me:bored:
