Any with spinal stenosis denied Lap Band surgery
GoingForIt replied to ssflbelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have back problems from being in an elevator that collapsed with me on it several years ago. I had been told in a few years I will need surgery as my injuries are progressive. My Surgeon I met with said I probably won't need that surgery nor a hernia repair surgery (for the 3rd time). I would not let the PCP scare you off. Just make sure you do your research and check out your surgeon good. Yes, laying down for the little time you will need to will cause the back to hurt more -short term. Getting the weight off will help greatly long term. Don't let them slow you down. -
First Consultation & Overwhelmed

If you tried Weigh Watchers I've been told BCBS will look at that as part of the weight charting and will use it as document supervised attempt to lose. I applaude you and you DH for going at this together, I worry about the meal thing when I have to go to the restrictions. My DH of 20 years says he supports me-- guess we'll see if he eats pureed carrots with me:wink2: -
I have to admit it...I did last year and I plan on doing it again this year. I didn't use the plastic ones, I used the "silk wanna bees". We had a horrible drought and everyone kept asking me how I was keeping them so pretty I had spring ones, summer and then fall, and I have a box in the garage that I cleaned them and put them back away. I went to one of our outlet type places and got them really cheap. I say go for it! You're neighbors will be envious....

Thank you for the welcome--I'm very excited for this process! I was and still am worried about getting approved because I'm not at 40 BMI yet, however I found out last night having Facet Arthropaty and Degenerative Disc Disease will actually help me get approved. I was prepared to have back surgery in about 5 years and to have a hernia repaired for the 3 time next fall. (not to metion will help heart conditions)Come to find out having this procedure could elimate the need for both! I'm so excited--my friend had it done before the holidays. He said the hardest thing he had to give up was pop. So I gave it up a month ago just to get that step over with. I figure beating it one challange at a time will be easier than trying to give everything up cold turkey.

Hi everyone, my name is Holly I've lurked for a couple weeks. Yesterday I met with Dr. Moon with Advanced Bariatrics Center. Seems like it went well. I've done a lot of research and had a lot of the leg work done also going in. My only fear is my insurance- I'm 5'7 and just shy of 240. I had lost 58 pounds on Weight Watchers 3 years ago, but when you stop counting points the scale starts counting for you--I don't want to count points the rest of my life! I have Hypertension, and a some other issues so he feels I should be able to get approved. If not in a another 6 months or so my BMI will be over 40. I've had 3 doctors tell me I won't see my son turn 18 if I don't get control. So I'm 40 June 29th and my Mid Life Crisis is not getting that little red convertable----it's saving my own life! So wish me luck!

The literature I have found says that if you are a muscular person the BMI is not a good thing to really rely on because muscle weighs more than fat. I think this is where your Medical Team can come in handy and help you figure out what is right for you. Don't let it get you down and kudos for being able to be Muscular!

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...

Instead of giving this "Author" more time and energy I think it deserves to just be ignored. I am a staff member of another website and we have Moderators for just this type of situation. headhunter needs to be banned and the thread locked or deleted because he is only doing damage to the Site and giving information that could cost someone their life because he is creating fear and doubt. It sad to see what people will do for money and attention. Makes you wonder if the surgery really ever was done.....maybe it's all research for more Fiction. -

Hello everyone, sadly enough this is the first thread I have had a chance to read, since I am brand new here. I will admit I skipped a bit in the middle, however I have a feeling about this post. Being in the early stages, everything I read talks of all the dangers. Dangers of having the surgery and dangers of not having the surgery. No one should take another persons treatment and assume it will be their situation too. Everyone's bodies are different. Every one has health issues that no one else probably has the exact same case as. All I am saying is just because it turned bad for David, and I am truely sorry it did, but it does not mean it will for others. It all varies based on education to all the procedures, following the Nutrition guide. No where have a I seen it's ok to eat milkshakes, ice cream and mashed potatoes. I have read when you begin to reintroduce food it is slowly, gradually and not to eat until you feel so full you will be sick. A friend of mine paid good money for the surgery outside of the US because insurance wouldn't help. She goes to buffets, likes to drink and loves Pancake Houses. That's a choice she is making on her own, against what is taught. As that has been pointed out to her, when she decides the start whining it doesn't work, I'm not losing l;ike they say. There are no promises at the end of the rainbow, it takes determination. David, maybe at the time you had your procedure you weren't quite ready mentally. I personally know when I get to that point, milkshakes and ice cream won't be on my list. That's what has gotten me here and it's about making the choice to do the life style change. It takes a lot to know you are ready for the part, who knows maybe as I get closers I'll realize I'm not mentally ready like I think I am. It happens, it just saddens me that some people came here for support and help, sat terrified and in tears. I wish you the best of luck I really do but I also wish the best of luck to those that have now had to back step and have started to have doubts. All anyone can do is educate themselves, dedicate 150% to following the steps and using a great support system. You have to decide at some point to take control of your life back and that you are worth the time, money, energy and tears it will take. Please forgive my rambling being my first post- I am just one that feels you create you own attitude. If you decide it's going to bad day as you roll out of bed- it will be a bad day and just the same if you sit back and do nothing and continue the choices of the past the only thing you gain is more of the unhappiness you have..
