Introducing ME and my not-so-typical-lap-band-story
loserbob replied to mamapierce's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im sure your dr thought of this but is it possible he gave you too much during the last fill? I am at 6.5cc and I feel a little rest. every now and then. My dr told me he wants to go slowly because when you get close to restriction it becomes more sensitive(not sure if Im explaining correctly), He was more aggressive in the begining and as we go along the fills become less, he gives me .5cc everytime now until we get to proper rest. because the band becomes more sensitive the fuller it gets, another words a .5cc might be too much next time. It sounds like symptoms of being overfilled now with the reflux, discomfort and not able to get food down. I would stick with the band, you will probably get there soon. You cant go by what amount gives others rest. because everyone is different, band size, fill amounts etc. -
I was probably more scared of the surgery than anyone, everyone else! I voluntarily rescheduled it 2 weeks later(March 10, of last year) and wondered why the hell I was doing it the morning of but everything went so well and so quickly. I was worried about afterwards, "depriving" myself. It was all for nothing, it has been very easy in fact. Its a learning process and I thought I had to know everything beforehand which isnt true. Its like starting a new job or buying a new car then wondering if you can afford it then it eventually becomes a way of life. Dont worry, you'll do great. Im sure you've seen it here before but I wish I would have done it alot sooner. Good luck!

What happened to rants and rave section?

My uncle had a V65 Magna back on the late 80s, it was very fast from what I remember, especially for a "cruiser".

Steelers and Packers is looking good! Two passionate well respected teams/fanbases, it doesnt get any better. I have to admit, Rogers looks unstoppable, Brett who? Favre retiring a hundred times is the best thing that could have happened to the Packers! The problem is, they've always been my 2nd favorite teAM SO ITS GOING TO BE HARD TO HATE THEM. oH YAH, WE STILL HAVE TO GET PAST A TOUGH jETS TEAM AND THE pACKERS PAST THEIR RIVAL bEARS. (i BUMPED CAPLOCKS SORRY)

I was watching the Biggest Loser Tuesday and Bob and Jillian were talking 1 on 1 with a few of the contestants(I guess thats what they are). At first they all pretty much shied away, tried to act tuff then all finally broke down divulging info that affected their lives, it was very emotional. My wife talked about how good Bob and especially Jillian were at getting to the "heart of the problem". I told my wife I really cant think of a reason, I've never really had any "trauma" in my life that would cause me to I guess love food as much as I do and that I would just contribute it to food always being some kind of reward in my life! Then i thought and this is what I came up with! My father who is 70 years old does absolutely nothing to help himself. (Let me explain), my mother passed away in 2004 at the age of 57. My father lives by himself and of course my sister and I both worry about him constantly! He's overweight(approx 300-320#, 6ft 3), he's diabetic and also had quadruple bypass surgery in Aug. of 07. At that time he stayed in an aftercare facility to recoop for about a month(his choice). He got down to 260-270# range, they had him eating better and exercising daily. When he came home he "SEEMED" highly motivated to continue down this healthy path which of course made my sister and I ecstatic even to the point we started looking into gyms in his area at his request. He was going to his drs. regularly(Cardiologist, reg dr.) then it all seemed to change! Looking back now Im not sure when or what made it change. The frustrating part is if we try to talk to him about it he gets this look as if he is thinking about other things(he's always been this way). My sister and I talk about this every so often, try to think of ways to motivate him and nothing seems to work. I just dont understand why someone would choose to live this way. Pretty much everything going on(health conditions) is preventable or at least can be made better by making better choices. I guess I cant understand how someone in this situation can sit around and do nothing to help! I know dying scares him because he was very nervous about the open heart surgery. He complains that his knees bother him, I've told him to try cortisone shots and he says they wont work. He also said he was afraid to get a needle in his knee, even after having his surgery! He's not getting around that well, he uses a cane and cant walk very far which he always uses as an excuse. The people at rehab didnt buy into it and he worked through it and became a little healthier for a short period. These are just a few of my main worries! He's going to die soon! I've pretty much accepted the fact that he's probably not going to be here within the next 2-3 years, not that it will make it any easier but I've accepted the fact(how selfish is he!) This really isnt any way for my sister and I to live our lives, worrying every minute of every day! At Christmas at my sisters I was watching my dad open gifts and all I could think about was, will he be here next Christmas, he's only 70 for $%^& sakes! My sister is overweight, she has stressful job, she worries about everything just like my mother did. Im worried that her constant worrying will cause health problems for her, she's 42 years old. I've met all of you on here so need I say more. My sister asked him if he thought he was depressed and he laughged at her. I actually believe he is! My thought is, maybe I should just get pi$$ed off and tell him how I feel, let him know these problems dont just affect him, when he had surgery I took off 2 weeks of work and that alone set me back, it took a month or two to get caught up. I would love nothing more than for him to be able to see my kids graduate highschool and go off to college, especially seeing how my mother only got to see my first born son and her only grandson for 10 months (my kids are both boys, 6-7). So there you have it, one of probably a few of the reasons I am where I am! I know this can get personal but its sometimes easier to post something on a site where you dont really know people per say.
-
Actually I just thought of a way to get this message to him without going in person and getting pi$$ed at him, Im going to mail it to him! That way I know he'll read it and wont be able to give me that blank look!
-
Your married! But I did hear you(see) say something about Frisco!!!(just kidding)
-
Steelers and Packers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Steelers winning of course. I think we need one for the big toe or something! Actually I hope its these two, my brother in law lives in Naperville Illinois and his wife is from Wisconsin so we're going to Chicago to watch the Superbowl if it ends up this way. Honestly though, I think it will be (it kills me to say this) Patriots vs Packers. The Pats just look too good and always end up ruining my season when we face them ihn the playoffs! We have to get past Baltimore which is always tough!
-
I think you both make good points about the guns and who woulda thought you'd agree(clip size)? I think the real issue is, why everytime there is a crime of this magnitude, be it a shooting, child abduction, rape, the criminal always has a past. This is were we're failing! If someone(community college) would have reported this nuts behavior and someone actually did something about him in the past, it wouldnt matter if the guy had 100rd magazines! Instead many people lost their lives and we find out once again it could have possibly been prevented! It happens all too often. Again, criminals have more rights than the victims. Big, big problem!!! Im so freaking tired of hearing about a child being abducted(Florida girl a few years ago, rapist abductor piece of shit lived right by her, I believe he failed to register his address!) Women getting raped, then you find out the scum served jailtime and was released or never convicted in the first place because god forbid these scumbags get their full constitutional rights!
-
My wife and I were watching the news yesterday and her thought is, everything posted about this guy seems to go against dem point of view. 1-He shot a dem. 2-He is linked to some racist group. 3-He talked about the literacy rate of Arizona(I would assume he's against the proposed immigration laws).
-
The Jerusalem Post is saying it happened because she's Jewish. Then went on blabbing about how America has more hatred for Jews than any country in the world. Imagine if we didnt give them 5 bill. plus a year!
-
Actually I read something about the shooter that said he was very far left and that she wasnt left enough for him because she was once a republican, then said he very possibly wasnt affiliated with a party that he didnt believe in the government. The site has since been canceled(I looked him up right after his name was given yesterday)! I just think the guy was a nutjob and she was very accessible to him. It was planned because he posted that he hoped his friends wouldnt be mad at him! Alot of people including myself believe the hatred in todays politics fueled this tragedy. I dont remember a time of so much hatred in this country! As you see, there are lunatics who believe everything they hear and read! Thanks to the big 4(Rush, Hannity, Beck and especially Palin)!
-
Fortunately everything was ok. Thanks for asking, I knew there was something I wanted to post but the shooting was happening as I was in my gameroom installing an exterior door. Also remember the olympics in China? The athletes were wearing respirators(around olympic village) because of the pollution and there was a body of water(lake/ bay) they had hundreds of boats cleaning the water because it was polluted(to a critical level).before the olympics started. What an embarrasment that was.

Thank you, your right. Obama did beat Mccain by a landslide. Again its nice of you to give to charities(as I will actually be heading to goodwill to drop off items). Alot of what you say I agree with I think we just word it differently. Handouts as you call them I dont agree with because when worded like that it sounds like everyone who accepts unemployment, etc is slacking off. Unfortunately there will always be people who play the system and it would be nice for someone to look over the problem. But it would mean another branch of our "corrupt"(your belief) government interfering. The reason they want to extend unemployment is because there arent any jobs(where have you been for the last 4-5 years), just kidding. I do think alot of whats going on is people who lost good jobs arent willing to work 2 or more jobs if needed to compensate for the money they're used to. But they lost white collar jobs so they're not considered handouts.
-
Well, it finally happened! Dem congress woman Gabrielle Giffords (shot in head) and at least 11 others shot at a Safeway grocery store in Tuscon Arizona. Could it possibly be because the lunatic believed all the hate and lies spewing from the rep mouths! Well I just heard at least 6 are dead(witness confirmation)! Thanks Boner and co.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ill bet your mad because there is talk of regulating offshore drilling because Im sure you believe BP Oil, you know, the big corp that doesnt pay taxes on the 40 plus billion dollar profits, you know, the company that looks out for employee safety, the one where the oil platform blew up killing several employees, fathers, mothers, children after being warned by said employees of a disaster soon to happen. Ask the family members how they would have felt about being inconvenience by a few extra safety regulations ! And as always you want the gov involved in things that would benefit you. There are two classes, wait, 3, oh no there used to be 3 classes of citizens in this country until you-know-who was in charge, your right Chenney but anyway, what the gov does for the lower class might not benefit you in the Im sure upper-class.

Dems dont disagree with what he's saying. Im sure everyone agrees dem or rep that everyone needs to do their part. Unfortunately not everyone is dealt the same hand, not everyones situation is the same. Why should a country as rich as ours not have social programs to help people "in need"? Yah, there will always be people who "play the system" . Actually there are alot of people who used to be well off who lost their good paying jobs and now require social programs to get by, its not just the lowlife trash looking for handouts who use these programs! This isnt a land of robots where everyone thinks and does the same. Your priorities arent the same as mine or anyone elses, who says yours are right and mine are wrong because you still have a job(by the way I still never heard of a $200,000.00 a year fireman, not saying they or you arent worth it, just sayin! We in the plumbing industry, I mean you in the fire industry call it "junk"!) and I lost mine because Bush had no clue how to run this country! Airiscuss, you are a fireman studying to be a dr. I believe, Its nice you'll never have to worry about most of these problems but there are actually people who dont have interest in these fields. There are people who actually do like being garbage men or women, electricians, plumbers, Firemen who make 40-60,000 dollars a year(those are the ones I know), secretaries, nurses aides, etc, everyones circumstances are the different! Also, I know it sucks that my or someone elses 5 year old cant be denied health coverage because cancer is a pre-existing condition, or I wont be told after an operation that my insurance is being terminated therefore Ill have to be solely responsable for aftercare. What the f%$k was Obama thinking when he revamped healthcare? To your last point, I guess dems should take this as a compliment. They're willing to give up their hard earned money to help others where reps evidently arent. Im so tired of the bs, Ill decide where my money goes. First of all Bush decided that you would help pay $1,000,000,000.00 a day for the wars he wanted! Its as simple as this. We can vote rep and send our kids off to die in some foreign land for their causes(reps). Or we can vote dem and take on the god forbiden task of helping the environment by researching new, alternative green energy resources. I actually agree with everything he said. I will admit, I bust my ass every day like most people and its comforting to know there will be some help if needed. ( Im ind) but lean left in most instances. Im still not sold on green energy, at least not as the only resource, we should drill as much as possible also. More nuc plants. Just for the record, my 5 year old is now 6 and doesnt have cancer and I still have my job, thank god!

I had my surgery on March 10 this year. I've lost about 50# give or take a few, I dont keep a scale in my house. I would prefer to have lost more but Im still happy because I really havent done anything other than eat smaller portions. I make excuses about exercise, still have alot of same habits as before. Im gradually changing things little by little because I think one of the reasons I've failed in the past is because I tried to do everything from day 1. This way I feel like Im slowly weaning myself of the bad habits of old. Im a very mental person and this seems to be working for me. As of Dec. 7, I have 6.5cc in my 11cc Realize band and no restriction, or at least not enough seeing as how Im always hungry even shortly after I eat. My surg. told me on Dec. 7 that Im getting close so I hope the next fill or 2 Ill be there. As far as excuses, I keep telling myself when I feel proper restriction I will join a gym(theres a 24 hour Snap Fitness 5 min from my house). Like they say, you get out what you put into something. Im happy because there is so much more I can do to lose faster, hopefully Ill find the motivation! My point of all this is, we where both banded in March, both have similar fill levels with similar results. I know it will get even better here in the not so distant future! I havent felt anything close to restriction since about June or July. Then again, I havent gained since the surgery and I usually lose at each fill. Im 100% sure if I change my diet even more and exercise with some regularity I'd lose alot faster. Maybe Im more restricted than I think and an just expecting the band to do all the work which so far it has!

At least Boner didnt cry today. He did however make a mistake which Im sure dems wont mention, during his speech he referred to something he said regarding the constitution when it was really from the Declaration Of Independence. You'd think the reps in general, Boner specifically wouldnt make a mistake regarding the constitution seeing as how they refer to it in everything they say. (I know its not a big deal but there is absolutely nothing to talk about otherwise. The big deal is the fact they refer to it quite often) It also cracks me up when they talk about his "American Dream" regarding his family's bar in Ohio. I dont know any bar owners who live in poverty! You'd think he grew up in the "getto" the way they talk about the way he accomplished his American Dream. The bar was passed down through his family from his grandfather. Just like most politicians he's had everything handed to him! (Again, bored)

Thanks, I hope everything goes well. With what you've been through Im definately not going to debate this topic with you!

Did Not Succeed
loserbob replied to Want To Be Thin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's more to it than just eatin right and exercising. Eating at the right times is just as if not more important. I "mostly" eat healthier and try to eat the right potions but I felt like I should be losing more. I rarely ate Breakfast so I would go without food(energy) for sometimes 16 hours, in turn my body went into starvation mode. My dr. recomended keeping low cal protien bars in my van(180 cals, 20 gr protien, taste great). When I went back for my last fill I lost 6 1/2 #, not great but I finally got below 300# to 294. Ive been fighting to get below 300 for the last 2 fills. If you dont eat at the right times you become super hungry and it becomes alot easier to make bad decisions. I thought I would get the band and lose alot of weight fast by just eating less of mostly the same foods which isnt so! There are alot of factors that need to happen for the band to "help". Im trying to incorporate changes in every facet of my life slowly because in the past I've tried to do everything at once and I believe many major changes to what I was used to and comfortable with contributed to my failures. Btreiger actually gave me the advice many months back. Im not concerned about losing all my weight in 6 months although it would be nice. This is going to be a lifetime of learning for me and Im content on hopefully being at goal in another year or so. Also someone recomended having a revision to the sleeve. If you do decide to, make sure your doing all thats necessary for the band to work because the same changes need to be taken for the sleeve or any surgery to work(basically are you following your drs. orders to a T?). The good news is, if you arent doing all you can you can still change. The band is forgiving, just start again. Find support groups in your town, on here wherever, you've come to far(surgery) to give up now or to not take this serious. Besides all surgeries require alot of work from you, there are no quick fixes! (assuming your not doing everything required). Or maybe your one of the few who it wont work for. You'd be the only one I've heard of without a band problem(erosion, slippage). Im sure you have the support of everyone here. Dont give up. -
Right before I typed my response to you my wife who had a mamogram the other day just said the dr. wanted to see her again! They told her when she went this is common not to be alarmed because of a follow up appointment. They told her everyones breast structure is different and they usually have everyone back for follow-up. Lets hope!

I have an uncle who had breast cancer and leukemia, so far he has no signs of cancer. He said beating cancer is 90% mental, that staying positive and believing are the most important parts of beating cancer. You'll get through this because you have the prayers and support of many people and you sound like your a strong person. Stay positive.
