In 3 weeks I went from being morbidly obese to obese. Wow, I never thought Id be happy to say Im obese!
-
My wife always says discrimination against heavy people is the only acceptable form of discrimination today!

I had mine on March 10th. I was so scared I also thought about backing out. I wore my favorite shirt which was tight and uncomfortable(wasnt when I bought it)just to remind me why Im doing this. I can tell you, I need a root canal and am so much more scared about that than the surgery. The surgery was the easy part. After 2-3 days I felt great. I was back to work(plumbing, heavy lifting)in 2 weeks with no problems, no way could I have taken 4-6 weeks like someone suggested, I was already going crazy! The hardest part for me was trying to get enough liquids during the first week(clear liquids), I had no appetite at all. Ive lost 37# after 3 weeks and go to see my family dr today. I dont have a scale, I didnt want to obsess. But I can tell you after 1 month I feel healthier and happier than I than I have in a long time. I would do it again in a heartbeat. After surgery time seemed to go so fast(healing process). Youll be fine, just listen to your dr and enjoy getting healthier by the day. Good luck to you.

All drs. will have different opinions. There are 6 surgeons at the hospital I had my surgery done. All 6 have different pre-post op diets. Mine is the only dr to require crushing pills. However my dr wants me to have lean protien, veg diet. She said to limit carbs. I was watching Dr. Oz on tv, he had 2 groups of overweight people. They did some kind of analysis and divided them, one group would lose better on high protien, the other would do better on higher carbs. I was always under the impression carbs where bad, or not as healthy for you.

For anyone who got stuck on their Easter Ham...
loserbob replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yah, I was straighteneng up the house with my wife, I took the ham out of the oven and had to try a piece. Well I wasnt paying attention to my band, I chewed a piece about 3 times and swallowed!!! I didnt feel to good for about 15 min. I think Ill remember next time! -
The main reason I did this is because my mom died alot sooner than she should have. It was definitely the hardest thing I've ever gone through. Its been 6 years(March 4th) and hasnt seemed to get any easier! I used to look at my kids and wonder why I couldnt find the will power to change, sometimes I feel like I got worse out of sympathy for myself. I did this a month ago and lost 37#. Im off my bp meds. I cant tell you how much better I feel all around. It was so unhealthy and stressful to wonder when I was going to have a heart attack, I really believed in my head that If I didnt change I wouldnt make it out of my 40s(Im 38). Thats really no way to live life. Since doing this I can tell you I dont feel that way at all. Even though Ive just begun my journey I feel like Ive come a long way already. I can look at my kids and have every reason to believe I will be able to do so for a long long time! I really didnt know how bad I felt until looking back now. I guess my point is do it now, its never to soon to get healthy. Besides(assuming this is your first), your life will get alot more hectic and busy!

I have a question. When the pre-existing conditions for kids passes, can the insurance companies still charge higher rates than normal or is it capped? No offense Patty but please dont answer.
-
I dont know where you get your info! Obama just said the other day in 6 weeks no child can be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions! I cant believe people think Obama or any politician "wants to control your life". He's doing what he believes is in the best interest of the people whether you agree or not. I know I never say anything good about Bush but I will say he probably did what he thought was best also! I say probably because I didnt agree with much if anything he did. Thats where it gets difficult to explain. Being I didnt agree, its easy to come up with other reasons, conspiracy theories, just like you are doing, so I really cant fault you for doing the same thing I've done in the past.

The last 2 days it was in the low 80s where I live. Normally I dont like heat but it was very comfortable. My wife laughs because I seem to get cold more than I used too. Ive lost 37# in the month Ive been banded and already notice a difference also in alot of other ways.

Do it now, this will be a good year, new baby and a new healthy dad. I think your wife will understand. I have my own business and dont make money if Im not working. My wife told me we'll get through this and be alot better for it. My wife was explaining to my kids about the surgery(5-6 year old boys)and my 6 year old said he's happy because "if we lose daddy we"ll lose our house too". That made any doubts I had go away. And if your wife gains baby weight it will help motivate her also!

just banded with a few questions
loserbob replied to misspeacock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my dr. if I had calf pain to call because thats could be a sign of clotting! Im not trying to scare you because it looks like others on here have had cramps but my release paperwork also says its a sign of blood clots. Fortunately I didnt have any pain, just gas discomfort for about 2 days post. -
A question for those who have been banded a while
loserbob replied to Froggie D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on March 10th. I lost 32# in the first 9 days(When I went in for follow up). The next Friday was exactly 7 days, I went in because I thought there was a problem with my port incision(It was ok), I lost 5 more pounds. I havent been back yet but I go on the 12th of April to have a fill. If I lost 5 or more since last visit Im not getting a fill. I feel pretty normal right now and I was worried there would be this big change in my life as far as eating normal. Well I said I feel fairly normal, normal now is a lot less food than I used to eat and a little healthier than before. I eat some foods I used to eat but I try to limit it alot. There are some foods I dont even want(bad food). I havent exercised yet except for walking a little. But Im only a month out, off my bp meds and loseing pretty steady(so far) and I feel fairly normal already,I say already because Im surprised, I thought it would take months to get the hang of this. The only problem I have is forgetting about the band, today(easter) I ate a piece of ham and forgot to chew, It didnt feel that good! Just remember, you will eat normally but it should be a new normal because the old normal is what got you here! Happy Easter and good luck in whatever you choose. -
I believe the onions cause gas. Thats what my mother-in-law told me, she is a nurse. The last thing I needed after surgery was more gas!

I was banded on March 10th. Ive lost 37# as of Friday the26th. Im off my blood pressure meds also. Im wondering if the surgery is considered a reason to be denied coverage. When I had to pay my own health insurance I was denied by every company because of pre-existing conditions. Pennsylvania has a high risk pool which is how I got insurance. Now my "co-morbidities are gone(still overweight), the cutoff weight for me was 250# to have regular coverage(not high risk pool), Im wondering when I get to 250# or under are they going to deny me because I had the surgery? I think they asked about surgeries in last 5 years on the applications. I would like to have my wife quit her job(she works mainly for benefits)so we can focus on our plumbing business. Any input would be appreciated.

I was just reading the Comcast web page and they have an article about Fox news. Journalists with Fox are upset that Beck is becomeing so popular. Other journalists are claiming Beck stages his dramatic shows, teardrops etc. Bill Oreilley is mentioned as one who is upset. They are concerned he is becomeing the face of Fox. These people are all narcositic idiots who could care a less about the country. Theyre just concerned about rateings. Sound like they should be politicians.

I had my surgery on March 10th. I was probably more scared than anyone, I never had surgery so didnt know what to expect. The surgery was a breeze, I was required to stay overnight. The next 2 1/2 days where uncomfortable, I questioned why I did it. But after day 3 that was all forgotten(Ill explain, very bad gas discomfort, but no actual pain due to surgery). I got back to normal after 3rd day and after 10 days I lost 32# so the first 2 1/2 days are forgotten. Its been alot easier than anticipated so far(Loseing, healing). The diet stinks until week 2 which Im starting now. I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck, youll do great.

My wife works for UPMC(University of Pittsburgh Medical Center). Her field is in research. Theyre starting a study where they are going to cover for people have Lapband, Bypass and study results between these two and regular diet. The study isnt started yet but I figured it might not hurt to contact them to find out about it. They are one of the top medical facilities in the country. My wife will not be affiliated with this study. Its still in the planning stage, she told me about it yesterday. I had my surgery through UPMC and was very impressed by everyone I dealt with. They are doing a study where they put a balloon into the stomach and inflate it to take up space to limit portions. The one recipient was interviewed and lost 30 some pounds in 2-3 months. The study might be over now. They are very active in this field(weightloss) and have the latest technology.

The people that really pi$$ me off are the ones on Medicaid(not all). I thought Medicaid was another form of medicare. I was unaware it was for "poor" people. The ones that pi$$ me off are the ones who are upset with the new plan. They where interviewing medicaid patients on the news the other day and some where complaining they might have to pay for healthcare. A few said they might quit their jobs so they dont make to much to qualify for medicaid. I guess everyones interpretation of the American Dream is different! So you have the rich who can afford whatever taxes they have to pay(didnt say they'd be happy). You have the "poor" who have a healthcare plan offered to them for free or greatly discounted but the middleclass Americans who try to work hard to make a descent living are caught in the middle where they cant afford to have healthcare but cant afford not to. Ya theres nothing wrong with the current system.

Actually 25% would be a C under the "Bush" no child left behind act!
-
The dems are majority. They showed you during the 2008 election scare tactics dont work. Hannity, Rush tried, Obama won by a landslide, thats right landslide!! The only way rep will be voted in is if dems get mad, dont think it will happen.
-
I would assume if they cant get on mothers welfare they could get Medicaid(assumeing they're not makeing much money).
-
When Fox news shows the poll results they'll say"only 48% approve the plan. They wont say how 30% didnt like it and the other 22% where undecided(30-20% just made up numbers). They'll lead you to believe 48% like it and 52% dont!
-
Ya, thats what I thought. So I guess you like Obama then. He has stepped up attacks in Pakistan and has caught a few high value Taliban leaders. He has kept us safe also! Im glad to hear you like Obama. Assumeing thats your only criteria. Hes also "fighting them over there so we dont have to fight them here". You guys are all the same. You spout at the mouth, regurgitating what Hannity and Beck say.
-
Patty, I thought you where a nurse! This is really Patty Green under a new user name!
-
Airiscus99, Sorry if its spelled wrong. I have to ask(I asked Patty Green and she didnt have an answer), What has the Bush admin. done for you in theyre 8 years that was helpful?
