  1. I'm on the pre-op diet and literally just sat down from cleaning out the fridge and pantry! You also reminded me that I forgot to get popsicles at the store 🤦‍♀️

Just diet and exercise. WOW! Never considered that.

This is how I feel. I understand the want to educate others—but I don't waste my time on trying to educate those who clearly don't want to listen. If people genuinely have questions and are willing to hear what I have to say, of course I don't mind giving them information. But for those who have already written it off, I just ignore it. Why waste the time and energy?
  3. I don't plan on it, but I have heard of people doing this.

VSG is 1/8, pre-op diet starts on 1/1

Congrats on getting a date! We're surgery twins 🙂 I started my pre-op diet yesterday. It was supposed to be 14 days, but my first day would have been on Christmas and my surgeon didn't think that was fair. I also get to eat food during my pre-op diet.

    I got my surgery date!!

Congrats! That's one day after me! 💛
  7. You didn't hear? Common sense isn't common 😂

That's how I feel 😂 I'm glad that I'm off work for a while...that way I can just sleep if I'm too miserable. You can do it! Each day you'll be one step closer to surgery

That's interesting that it's not required. My surgeon only requires a completely liquid pre-op diet for patients over a certain BMI—otherwise, it's 2 protein shakes and 2 meals.

Glad to hear it's going well! My doctor told me that no one should have to start the pre-op diet on Christmas so he allowed me to start today instead 😂 So far, so good! I've only had one protein shake and water today, but I also get 2 meals (60% lean protein, 40% non-starchy vegetables). Hopefully these next couple of weeks go by quickly!

Anyone else started their pre-op diet? How's it going?
  12. I started my pre-op diet today! I blend my protein with ice so that it has a thicker consistency, kind of like a milkshake. It makes it seem more like a treat
  13. Exactly! It does make me wonder about the education provided pre-surgery for some patients. I know that my program was incredibly comprehensive, whereas a friend of mine who had surgery through a different hospital received much less info than I did.
  14. There are foods you can add into your diet to increase your HDL and it also may increase as you lose weight. I would check with your doctor to determine if there's any cause for concern.

    Is it working ??

To echo what everyone else has said, you're doing great! You should take your measurements—when the scale isn't moving it can be helpful to have these to show that even though the scale isn't moving, that your measurements are changing.
  16. Are you active? You can increase your HDL through exercise.
  17. Right now I'm 314, but after the post-op diet I'm guessing that I'll be at 300. It's so interesting to me how different pre- and post-op diets can be!
  18. You read my mind! I'm going to be honest, I've been annoyed at a lot of what I've been reading the last few days because so many of the issues people are having can be boiled down to a lack of research in the pre-surgery stage. I understand that you can't always be prepared for everything, but if you are having major surgery it's incredibly important that you take the time to learn about the procedure.
  19. Congrats on taking the first step!

    Confronting the "mean girls"

I agree. Don't feed into their negativity, and as difficult as it is—don't let it get to you.
  24. For me, post-op stages are: Stage 1 (Weeks 1-2): Full liquid diet—after 5 days of meeting fluid and protein goals I can have soft proteins Stage 2 (Weeks 3-4): Soft protein foods Stage 3 (Week 5 and beyond): Bariatric regular It's good that you've already started adjusting your diet! I was required to lose a certain amount for insurance approval, but have really only been cutting down on portions.
