    Cookbook

I'll be able to say yes to this after this weekend! I just bought both of her sleeve cookbooks and am going to make the broccoli cheese soup this weekend. @Sophie7713 recommended them to me and she had a lot of good things to say about them!
  2. My policy also has something similar to this, but this is separate from the supervised diet I had to do. For this I had to list other ways I had tried to lose weight in the past: Weight Watchers, behavior modification, diet/exercise, Beach Body programs, etc. My PCP and I discussed these and then she signed off on it. This was to show failed attempts, but for the supervised diet I was required to lose a certain amount of weight. Your surgeon's office should be able to interpret it for you—I found my patient coordinator through my surgeon was more knowledgeable about these requirements than the insurance customer service reps.
  3. From consult to surgery, it took just under 7 months. My employer has a custom plan through BCBS. The amount of time is mainly determined by if your insurance or surgeon has a required supervised diet program. That should give you an idea of about how long it will take you.

    Back to work

I'm one week post-op and am taking 2 weeks, but could probably go back tomorrow and be fine. I have a very sedentary desk job. I'm off pain meds and haven't taken a nap in the middle of the day in several days. I recommend requesting 2 weeks off and letting your supervisor know that you may be back before that, dependent upon how you feel.

    Nervious about life after

I'm a week post-op and feel like for the next few months that my life probably will have a large focus on the food that I'm eating because I'm re-learning how to eat. I know that down the line though, after I've learned how to eat and what my body needs with it's new stomach that there won't be as much emphasis on this.

    Vitamins

This is how much I take and how I've been instructed to split them up. I take the Bariatric Advantage chewy ones and they're basically candy so I like taking them.
  7. I'm a week post-op sleeve and feel like I would be ready to travel after another week. Honestly, I could probably do it now. I have a little bit of internal pain, but not much—I only took pain meds the first few days.

    Long Plane Flights

I think I saw somewhere on the forum that you can get protein shakes through security by claiming them as a medical necessity. I can't find the thread it was on, but on this is what it says on TSA's website: TSA allows larger amounts of medically necessary liquids, gels, and aerosols in reasonable quantities for your trip, but you must declare them to TSA officers at the checkpoint for inspection.

    Seasonal allergies

I think Zyrtec and Benadryl are safe for hypertension. For the symptoms that you're describing, I think that Zyrtec would be a better fit.

I found the trick to conjure numero dos!!!!!

I'm so jealous. I'll be so glad when I can have caffeine again for this reason.

    January surgeries?!

So I'm officially 1 week post-op today and I'm hella annoyed because I'm up a couple pounds from yesterday. I'm eating next to nothing so, naturally, I'm annoyed. Rationally, I know that there are a ton of reasons that could have caused this and that in the scheme of things, this literally means nothing. However, as someone who is eating next to nothing, it's hard to make yourself listen to your rational thoughts 🙂 I'm going to do measurements today, so that in the future (when this undoubtedly happens again) I can use these in conjunction with the scale. Rant over 🙂

Surgery 1/28/19 - Started 2 week liquid diet

Hang in there, you're doing great!
  15. If you're planning on having surgery sometime in March and you've just started the process, it makes sense that you have so many appointments back-to-back. Three months is a short timespan from consultation to surgery. Like Sweettoothless said, it's good that they're being thorough. For the time being it's a pain in the ass, but it'll all be worth it in the end.
  16. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. I hope that your hernia doesn't get any bigger.

    Just Sleeved

Yep, I get mine at Walmart but I'm feeling a little cheated because mine didn't have tropical flavors! Just cherry, orange, and grape.

Can't wait to get them! I don't usually buy cookbooks, but I can tell that these will be more than worth it. I was actually surprised at how cheap they are! So excited to use them 🙂

Great suggestion on the cookbooks! Just bought both—can't wait for them to get here, gotta love Amazon Prime one-day shipping!

For me, the jello made me full after a few bites—I can't finish a fourth of a jello cup. They help me feel like I'm eating food, instead of just constantly sip-sip-sipping.

You're welcome! Are you allowed to have sugar-free jello and sugar-free popsicles? I was allowed both while on clear liquids and they helped.

    Thanks for the tip!

I'm 1 week post-op, so I totally understand where you're coming from. Instead of thinking of your surgery in a negative light, think of it positively—this surgery is a tool that will improve your quality of life! You can do this! I'm trying to think of this time as a reset with my relationship with food. The time will pass and you'll be back to eating food. Also, some of the foods that you think you can't eat anymore, you will be able to! You may have to eat them in smaller portions or modify them to work better with your sleeve, but it's not the end of your favorite foods! This part of the journey is tough, but so are you—you'll get through this.

    Walking = Nausea

The peppermint oil is a great idea! When I was in the hospital after surgery, the nurse would gave me a cotton ball with peppermint to sniff for nausea. It helped and I didn't have to take the nausea meds very much at all.

    January surgeries?!

I was so disappointed because they said it's so popular! I tried that SF pudding mix with the vanilla, but couldn't get past the smell. I've been looking for the SF cheesecake pudding mix—I've checked at 2 or 3 places and haven't been able to find it yet!
