  1. mmy, I hope you found some helpful strategies that is working for you. I had never heard of SIBO until this past Friday. My surgery was in July 2017 but prior to that I was suffering from lactose intolerance, was diagnosed with intolerance to gluten, allergic to shell fish and had esophagitis from GERD . I stopped eating those foods gradually but still had issues and was on acid reflux meds. Every time I eliminated one thing something else gave me issues. After my surgery, I was doing ok for the most part until last year when the bloating started. This was followed by painful gas and irregular bowel movements. I got an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy which revealed that I had a couple of polyps in my large intestine but weirdly, one in my small intestine. Even though the Gastroenterologist said my Pancreas was ok and my enzymes were normal, I was prescribed Kreon because I didn't have enough enzymes to digest my food. So he said. I was also told to take probiotics and take in more fiber. This was in October 2020. Some of my symptoms improved as long as I was taking the Kreon with everything I put in my mouth. At my next follow up, I asked why was taking enzymes everyday if my levels are ok and my pancreas is fine but all my symptoms had not improved? I was basically told to not look a gifted horse in the mouth, my symptom are better so be grateful. I followed up with my GP and she was not having it. She got me a referral for a second opinion. The new GI doc asked me a lot of questions and was very informative. He told me that my long history with taking meds for GERD combined with the RYN may have made me candidate for SIBO. I'm waiting for appointments to get some tests and labs done. I often borrow books from my local library about inflammation and gut issues but I rarely crack them open because I already decided that the advice would not work for me. But after my visit with the new GI doc, I searched the index of each book. Bloated Belly Whisperer by Tamara Duker Freuman has a whole chapter on SIBO (chapter eight) that eye opening for me. I'm a little bit more encouraged that there is a possible treatment for my issues. Through my journey so far, I've found that older doctors treat me poorly when they find out that I had RNY. It's almost like they are telling my that I deserve any issues I get. I don't want to self diagnose but I can't sit back and continue to be miserable. Now I pay attention to what I'm eating, I find it difficult at times to give up certain foods. It took me 10 years to give up dairy. I developed upper respiratory infections after a while, but I couldn't give up the brie and the ice cream until I had one last bout with Bronchitis. I don't miss foods that are harmful to me, I can walk by them now with no problem. But when everything I eat is a problem, even a glass of water, I'm going to keep looking for a solution. Keep fighting mmy.
  2. I have desk job as well and I went back after 2 weeks. I asked my doctor to give a note. I just told my boss I sprained a muscle and couldn’t lift anything heavy.
  3. I haven’t told many people who are close to me let alone co-workers because they were quite negatively opinionated about WLS. After a while people get use to seeing you smaller and they stop asking questions. My go to answer is I have several digestive issues that I’ve been diagnose with and can’t eat a lot of things. Not long after I was told I was pre-diabetic and had severe gluten sensitivity, that I had my bypass. So people are ok with my answer and move on. I’m headed into 2 years and people are over my weight loss.

    I had severe sleep apnea for more than 10 years. I realized I didn’t need my cpap when I was in the hospital for a different surgery four months after my bypass. I kept waking up coughing like I was choking. After the second day in the hospital something told we to ask the nurse what my oxygen saturation was after she tested me in the morning. It was low when I wore the mask the first 2 days and when I stopped wearing it, my saturation was between 98 to 100 percent. I haven’t worn it ever since.

    Feeling Defeated

    You've done great so far. Weight gain is a sign that we have fallen off track and leaning back on food for comfort. My highest weight was 278 but my surgery wait was 237. I've only lost 50 lbs with my RNY tool. I messed around and gained 10 lbs back after a year and a half but I'm still determined to lose these last 35 - 40 lbs. Right now I'm working towards intermittent fasting and working to implement Keto. It's probably easier for me than others because I've developed so many food allergies throughout the years that I can't eat a lot of foods anyway. I continue to go to Weight Watcher meetings because I still need the support of people who still struggling with their weight loss journey and I need the accountability. I've lost 5 lbs so far. I've tried going to a bariatric group held by my clinic but people were afraid to be honest in front of the nutritionist and counselor. A few weeks ago I showed some before picks I took to someone and they asked my what made me take pictures facing forward and sideways. My response was "I always knew that I would lose this weight by any means necessary". Don't let others defeat your goals because they matter to you. Be well.

    Perplexed - no weight loss?

    Same thing happened to me. I didn’t start seeing results for 2 weeks. Just focus on getting your fluids in and following your doctor’s instructions. Your body went through trama and needs time to recover. Good luck.

    Worlds longest stall

    Congratulations on losing 200 pds and doing so well on exercising. Believe it or not I’m motivated by your story. I’m 13 months out and been stalled since November around the 190 mark. I’ve only lost 50 pounds. I’ve had 2 non-weightloss surgeries since my RNY and have not been motivated to exercise. The fact that your so diligent and keep trying is a beautiful thing. Some of the suggestions already given sound great like seeing a therapist and changing your routine. You’ve gotten this far I believe you will get to your goal.

    Head hunger is no joke. It will mess with you at every turn until you choose to manage it. Your body is use to receiving a certain number of calories because we trained it to. So it’s going to take a while to train it differently. Your stomach is still healing so taking in more than recommended for you could undo what you just did. Meaning the opening where your stomach is attached to your intestines could heal larger than it should. It is hard, I’m 12 months out and stopping loosing weight at month 4. I thought my acid reflux was gone forever but I discovered it’s there after I had my first regular cup of coffee. Some of us are going to have to really work hard at this.

    You will be fine. Make sure you do two things well: Get enough sleep and prep your meals.
  12. I'm sorry to hear that your having so much discomfort. I had bypass July 2017 because my doctor would not approve me for VSG due to my severe acid reflux problem. I was on 2 different meds twice a day for some time. After surgery my doctor made me take reflux meds for six months and I was fine. A couple of months ago I was put on meds for a different issue. Within a month I started having reflux symptoms which I thought were allergies at first until my throat would start getting scratch mid day. I thought because of this surgery my reflux days were over but that is not the case. When I spoke to my doctor she said that because of my history that I could still suffer from reflux issues. Your only a week out so your stomach is still healing. Don't make the mistakes I made by eating to many carbs, eating more than I should and snacking to much. Do your best to try to drink your water it will help.
