With my line of work I am lucky to get in 2 meals a day. After my first adjustment it seemed that my docotr changed his rules about water. He now wants you to wait 2 hours before and 2 hours after a meal. That is impossible, at least for me. I have a lawn and landscape business in Louisiana and there is no way I am willing to give up water PERIOD! So for breakfast I do protein shake and the same for lunch. For dinner I do a small meal. On the days I have off, which are few and far between this time of the year, I will have a regular breakfast and a regular lunch.

Charlee I went last thursday for my first fill. That was 8 weeks post op. After he stuck my port I asked if everything was normal and he said yes. Then I went on to tell him at 5 weeks post op I had began working out. I was only rep'ing 225 on the bench and did not want to push any more for fear of busting my port loose. anyway I asked if there would be a problem for me to push my weight training back up and he said no problem. I did tell him I had stayed away from my shrug cage and asked him if it was ok to return to doing deadlifts, shrugs and squats since you tend to use a lot of stomach muscles and he said "get after it!!" I am currently 9 weeks post op and shruging 405 pounds and I have no worries. I hope to be in the 600's with in the next 2 months. So I doubt you will cause any problems unless you are a slow healer. I would however discuss it with your doctor before doing extremely heavy wiehgt training if this is indeed what you are after.

I am a couple of days over 3 weeks and am feeling great. I do have sharp burning pain now and then in the port area but other than that i am walking 4 miles a day and have been back to work since the day of my 2 week mark. I was instructed to not pick up any thing heavy for 6 weeks but unfortuneatly for me I have no option. I have a lawn business and have to strap a 40 pound backpack blower on my back at every stop we make to blow when we are done mowing and weedeating. You should be back up to par by week 2. Hang in there!!

Yes you need to use him or your PCP so they can list possible health problems you may have in the future. The plastic surgeon would come across as one who just lists stuff so he can make money. Make sure you send close ups of excess skin and list problems you are currently having because of it. Good luck!! Keep us posted.

Tabbi Did you send pictures and or video like I suggested to you? If you did not you need to resubmit and include those. Let the doctor and his staff know that you are doing this. They should be more than happy to help you resubmit. Like I had told you, a young woman here in Shreveport did just that and it got her her surgery. Do not give up the fight!!

SELF-PAY - TAX Info all Self-Pay Patients should know
roggie replied to TheGh0st's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Absolutley positive!! Medical is a benifit the company extends to you, period. You need to have a sit down with your accountant. Just an example. Some people have the privilage to work for a company that provides 100% health care (a benifit), that company writes it off as a business expense. My company offers medical to it's employees. The employees happen to be board members of the LLC which are my wife and myself. There for all of our medical is provided from the company we work for. -

Also if you are self-employed and you have an LLC or Corp. it is 100% deductable. My LLC pays all expenses. So what ever amount I spend on medical is not looked at as a taxable income. -
I have a lawn and landscape business. We really do not do new installs on flower beds, we mainly do maintenance. So in other words I'mah lawn boy:).

no need to deflate the band before surgery
roggie replied to vinesqueen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am with Penni. Even though I have never had a strong reaction to meds it is possible sometime down the road I could. I believe for myself I would play the safe card and deflate. If you did happen to be at your "sweet spot" then your doctor will know exactly how much was removed and can eventually work back to that amount. -
How can I possibly eat/drink all I'm supposed to?
roggie replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I see a lot of people eating mushies so soon after surgery I get a little jealous. With that said I decided to stick to my doctors rules. So far I am living on 2 protein shakes a day along with lots of water. I also go to Baskin Robins, buddy of mine owns the one here, and get sugar free fat free vanilla yougart. That stuff is great. I also, at nights as a snack, have sugar free jello with sugar free whip topping. I do add 1/2 banana to my shake everytime I make one, for potasium. I make sure there are no chunks left. Other than that I take vitamens and desicated liver. Once in a while i feel a little lite headed but I seem to have plenty of energy. -

WOW your doctor moves you along fast. I was banded on the 24th and this friday is comming up on my 2 week post op. I have liquids first 2 weeks, which I am allowed cream Soup and Protein shakes. Weeks 3 and 4 I get to blend meat cassoroles and fruits, can not be too chunky yet have to be in liquid form. Then weeks 5 and 6 are my mushies, potatos, soggy Cereal, runny oatmeal, fish and eggs. Also any other baby foods I wish to incorporate, yuck. The thursday night starting my week 5 I have big plans, firing up my grill and misqute smoking trout. As far as my intake of Water I can not do just a couple of ounces every 20 minutes or so. Almost 2 weeks out I am able to put down a pint of water pretty fast. Especially when I am either working or excercising. My biggest problem is going to be lunch. I am off to work during the busy season at 6:30 am and run straight through to 3 pm. Because of the 1 hour plus wait to drink water lunch is out for me on work days. I have a lawn and landscape business and am unwilling to give up my water down here in the heat for over an hour. Perhapse I can have a Protein shake or something. i was never a lunch eater anyway. -
Well hello all. I am pretty much a lurker here. So i will begin by introducing myself. I am Louis and just got banded on the 24th of February. All was going great till today my daugher started throwing up. my wife called the doctor and they told us it was highley contageous. Well now I am scared. Ofcourse I am still on the liquid diet and have no solids in me but I am a little worried about heaving and such. Has anyone here been through this only a week or 2 post op? Should I just stop all intake right now and pray I do not start getting sick? i know there would be a chance of becoming dehyraded either way so should I just self induce it myself rather than throwing it up? Any and all suggestions will be more than welcome. Also good news about my journey thus far, I have dropped 22 pounds since last Friday. This band thing is great!!:biggrin1:

Weight Issues in Americans vs other countries
roggie replied to cashley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes Wasa is swedish flat bread. When we are over there visitng family we sometimes would use flat bread for sandwhiches. Of course theirs are open face and usually consist of healty meats such as fish or thinly sliced ham etc. along with good cheese and perhapse a slice of tomato. I tend to lose weight everytime we go. I can see it would be a great advantage for me to live there from a health point of view however I couold not take the long cold dark winters lol -
Well I am not a woman however I did meet my wife on the internet in late 1996. It was not a dating site just a chat cafe. I was here in Louisiana and she was in Norway. We met in person during the spring of 98 and were married December of 98 and have been together since. We now have a daughter.

Weight Issues in Americans vs other countries

Wheetsin do not forget the multiple trips to the store as well. Since we did not have a car we had to walk to the store. You can carry only so much, espicially if you are dragging kids with you. We had to go to the store about every 2 days. Norge and Sverige are very similar, atleast in the larger cities where you have the public transportation. -

My wife is norwegian. We married in Dec of 98. Since moving here she gained 80 pounds. I often wondered if it was the food. I know in norway you go there and they eat like birds compared to us. Also i believe my horrible habits rubbed off on her and I am hopeing that with my band and new habbits she will revert back to her old habbits. I know that animals in norway are not shot up with growth drugs like here in the states. Also from what i have heard Europeans eat late instead of early like we are always taught. Again i often wonder if it is all the junk that the FDA allows in our food. Maybe they are lobbied by the diet industry so the diet industry can make their cut. -
Something many of you ought to look into is dessicated liver. This is a great source of natural b-12, iron and protein. From personal experience I can say this stuff is great. When i was 20 I weighed 458 pounds and in a 4 month period dropped to 303 pounds. I had become friends with a couple of football players from some well known colleges around here and they intorduced me to the stuff. In less than 2 months I gained an extreme amount of muscle mass. I wanted to get back into power lifting and was so weak from the mucle loss associated with my overall weight loss. Oter friends of mine accused me of being on steroids. Any way this is a great product for those that are in the first stages of post op band surgery. I am back on it 11 days out and noticed the fatigue in my muscles is subsiding and my energy levels increasing. You will find a lot of info on a simple google search if you are interested. Also stick with the Argentinian beef liver powder products.

I believe if I were in her shoes with that dx I would go to the state building and apply for SSI. Once accepted she can get on medicade which will pay for weight loss surgery. If she is still a dependant under her mother and there are 4 kids, one with a disability, she may already be on assistance or state funded health care and should qualify. If that is the case you need your doctor to seek approval.

Unfortuneatly for me it will be almost impossible for me to eat lunch, atleast during the work week. One old habit I will not be able to shake til the off season. Down here in the south it is extremely hot and humid. I drink water from 6:30 am till 2 to 4 pm constantly. I really will not have the option of waiting an hour after lunch to take a drink. I guess I will have to take a protein shake for lunch. I have a lawn and landscape business and we sweat all freakin day long!!:straight

I am with Free on this. What it boils down to is money, it's all about the money. To have the RNY here is an additionl 12 grand. That is 12 grand for about an hour and a half of extra work. Over the last 2 years I have been folowing gene theropy. I am only 34 and if the band fails me hopefully in the next 10 to 15 years gene theropy will be available. I am thankful that I was denied 2 1/2 years ago by my insurance for the RNY. I was not interested in lining someones pockets nor was I willing to be replumbed. Which by the way it ticks me off big time when I have a doctor try to talk me down to a lower price for my services ( I have a lawn and landscape business ) yet they won't budge on their highly priced services. Sure they got overhead as well but I do to. Sorry for the rant. Anyway I know several women that had RNY and they are steadily gaining weight becasue of the stretched "new" stomach. So in theory you will be in the same boat either way. Also it would be far less invase to remove a band vs. revised RNY.

If you have lost considerable weight since your last fill it is possible your opening is larger. Most of all organs will have fat just like under your skin. When the fat is lost the opening gets larger. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I was actually prescribed that after surgery and went ahead and got it so I do have it on hand. i guess at the first hint of nasua i will insert:cry . I did tell them earlyer today what was up and they said to call them, that was pretty much it.

It sounds to me you had a gallbladder attack. Usually the pain in your back will be more to your right side. After 3 attacks in a row I ended up in the ER. The doctors ignored me when I told them it was my gallbladder. Since I did not have the typical symptoms such as gray stool etc. they at first wrote me off. To me it felt like gas pains more than anything. They finally did the ultra sound and there they were. My stones had actually dumped into my common byle duct and shut off my pancreas. I began to develop pancreatitus (not good). You deffinately want to go have the ultra sound done. I fought mine for so long that when it was removed it was the size of a 12 ounce coke can when it should be about the size of your thumb, you don't want that trust me.
