    Why is water painful?

My friend who is a nurse says that water is actually much heavier than most other liquids. I used to love water before my surgery, but now I have to play all kinds of games to get it down: mixing it with half a pouch of Crystal Light, counting Clear Protein drinks as water in my daily liquid list, letting myself get thirsty before downing another 8 ounces. I see a big difference in how I feel when I have my required water, though, so my advice is to find which tricks work for you and then just keep using them!
  2. Yeah, I forgot to ask him at my first post-op appointment, and I don't see him again for another 2 months. I will ask my GP instead! Thanks for replying.

    Drinking - just wondering

I agree with you, Minerva! All I can get in is protein, and that still leaves me at 45-55 grams a day. Those Birdseye protein blends look great, but they have stuff we aren't supposed to have: corn, grains, beans, etc. Nuts are off the table too. I drink half a protein shake a day, and I want to do a full one for the extra protein, but I'm trying to make the transition to food. It's tough! I do drink half a Clear Protein drink most days, which is 10 grams of protein -- worth it to me, despite the 45 calories. If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend them. Premier Protein makes them.
  4. I am nearly 6 weeks out from surgery and having a lot of bathroom issues. I gave up Citrucel, which I used to take daily, 2 weeks before surgery and I'm wondering if it's okay to resume it now. Anyone else had this experience?
  5. True -- all good reminders! And I had a hiatal hernia repaired while I was at it, so I should be thankful for that. I know it will come, but it's bewilderingly slow!
  6. How I wish we had a Trader Joe's! Thank you for the encouragement. It's good to know that others are having the same issues -- not that I would wish those issues on anyone!
  7. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and since I started weighing (about 4 days after surgery), I have lost -- wait for it -- 3 pounds. Maybe 2.5 if we're being technical. I'm supposed to start the puree stage tomorrow and I saw the nutritionist today, who suggested drinking less water and avoiding bouillon because of the salt. Seriously.
