In your face moments
Headhunter replied to bashful1269's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes, the "EX" moments are always among the best! I saw your blog, and you did indeed look lovely. I'll bet the ex was having some serious regrets..... HH -

Unemployed woman complains she's no longer entitled to Disability Benefits after WLS
Headhunter replied to Marmite_crumpet's topic in Rants & Raves
It's 14 pounds in American weight. It's part of the "imperial" measurement system that is in use in Britain. I'm not sure if it's in use outside of England much, but you can always tell if someone is from England, as they will refer to weighing "something" Stone, as opposed to Pounds. HH -

I was actually about ready to hit the SAVE key on a Post in that thread when Elisabeth locked it Yesterday . I believe that I was commenting on the piece of Chicken she had eaten. I think I was saying that based upon everything I had seen in her thread, it was clear that this was not the FIRST time she had taken something very large and inappropriate down her throat. But of course I DIDN'T say that...and I wouldn't say that. Would I? HH -

That is very true. And our Mods already have enough to deal with (cough cough). It would be nice, though. HH -

I was disappointed it was closed, as well. But Glo, I was very impressed with your response. You Said what most everyone was thinking. Nice job. I do think that there should be a place here where it's a kind of "no holds barred"...the "wild west"......Where you go and play at your own risk. There are sometimes things that just need to be said. Of course, you'd never catch ME there.... (cough, cough). HH -

Headhunter replied to bashful1269's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG. BEAUTIFULLY done. I'm impressed. That is probably the BEST kind of "in your face" moment, when you can "stick it" to someone who has been rude about your appearance in the past. And you get extra points by "wrapping" it in the generous offer of clothing! Nicely done! HH -
“Sorry if I intimidate you by my presence” Your presence is quite….insignificant. To anyone. Anywhere. Anytime. Except, perhaps, to yourself. And if you ARE significant to yourself, then I have to seriously question your choices in what is and isn’t significant. You seem to make yourself laugh a great deal. It’s a pity, because you’re not even funny. “Comic Book Guy” Comic Book Guy? Comic Book Guy? Oh, yes. You are referring to that pithy little remark you made in a past thread comparing me to some obscure Simpsons’ Character. That was the remark where you said something like “hey, everyone….we have a real life” whatever it was that you said. You know, where you expected everyone to come back and say “Yeah!! Ha Ha!! That’s Him!! You are SO Funny”!!” And…. well, ….nobody ever came back and responded to your moronic little crack, did they? They just ignored you. As they should. “Yeah well, somebody needs to kick that jackass in the balls.” Well, it’s clearly not going to be YOU, cupcake. You have problems constructing a simple sentence. I’m thinking you’re not going to be kicking ANYONE in said balls, figuratively OR literally. “I just want him to eat until he blows up.” Well, now. That was just darn right clever. In all of my years online, I don’t think I have EVER witnessed such a clever retort as that. “I just want him to eat until he blows up.” That was so clever and witty I had to repeat it. Got any more lightning bolts like THAT one, cupcake? HH

In your face moments
Headhunter replied to bashful1269's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The quickest story I can offer is that of my 94-year-old mother. I don't get to see her that often, because she lives some distance away, in a town that is not readily accessible by airport. The last time I saw her was about 15 months ago, 2 days before the surgery that was going to remove my lap band, repair the significant damage caused by the band, and perform a gastric Bypass. This was a very "iffy" surgery. There were LOTS of problems caused by the band, and there was some serious question as to whether I would make it through the surgery unscathed. (NOTE: I'm not "band-bashing" here, the circumstances under which I saw my mother last were quite traumatic for us all.) I went out to visit my Mom right before the surgery because I wasn't all that sure I would see her again. As it turned out, my surgeon was brilliant, and I came through fine. But my recovery was many months long, and I was unable to get out to visit her. I was able to go out to see her earlier this month, on her 94th birthday. I was almost exactly 100 pounds lighter than I was when she had last seen me. I arrived at her house a little later in the day than I had planned, so she was napping in her recliner in the living room (as any respectable 94 year-old SHOULD be doing in the afternoon!). Her front door was locked, but I had a key, so I quietly entered her house, went into the living room, gave her a kiss on the cheek to wake her up. I stood in front of her as she slowly came back to reality. It was AMAZING, and quite joyful, to see the look on her face, and to see the tears roll down her cheeks. She just sat there and cried for about 10 minutes. It was quite wonderful for both of us. Of course, I had to endure 3 days of her parading me around to her pals. And some of them had Alzheimers, and kept drifting in and out of knowng who I was, but it was a fun and special few days. I glad I could give that gift to my Mother. She knows her son is happy, healthy, and lookin' "purdy good", and there is no better gift that a child can give a parent than that. HH -
In your face moments
Headhunter replied to bashful1269's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This really IS a great idea for a post, and I hope people start telling their stories. I've had a bunch of these moments. I'll try and tell some of the stories over the next couple days, but lots of people who have had success with the band (and other WLS) should have some good tales. HH -

"penetration pricing"...... Shouldn't that be over in the prostitution thread? HH -
Hi, Andy; You know, that is a question that will get you a lot of different answers. I'll assume that you want to figure out what would be the right amount for YOU. That is really variable. It depends on your physical condition, and numerous other factors. It would also depend on what KIND of cardio you are looking to do. You need to talk to your Doctor first about it. You might also consider speaking to a Doctor who specializes in Sports Medicine. They are really "keyed in" to what it is that you will need to acheive your goals. Also, consider hiring a Personal Trainer. That has been a HUGE factor in my overall health. Meeting with a Trainer on a regular basis will keep you ACCOUNTABLE, and they will help you monitor your progress. One thing that some people do when they find that a trainer is too expensive is to "Group Train". Some trainers will do this. Get several friends together who want to work with a trainer, and find one that will work with you all at the same time. The cost is MUCH less than if you do it alone. And, the attention you get will be quite individual, if you keep the group down to 5 or fewer people. Give it some thought. But, DO see your Doctor first, and make sure that you are in proper physical condition for Cardio. HH

“HH - Your reaction (over-reaction actually) has just proven my point - thank you! Heaven forbid someone speak out against you.” Huh? What the hell are you talking about? “ am fully aware of the entire content of the thread - have chosen not to speak because I believe enough had been said. “ Again….What the hell are you talking about? “You actually opened the new subject by stating you had to 'beat things' in to people who don't get it.” I didn’t “open” the “new subject”..I responded to an existing subject. See, that’s part of my point: people don’t READ. Or they can’t read. Or both. “As was already stated - many of us have witnessed your ways - you did not have to say this for your tactics to be known. “ And the point is exactly? You wasted good disk space and bandwidth for what? Huh? Jeez. HH

Since when was this thread about YOU???? You think the whole freakin’ world is about YOU!! LOL!! Stop it, you’re killin’ me! You can’t be serious! LMAO!! You take a thread that’s on an entirely, totally different subject and drop-kick yourself RIGHT INTO IT! Too much. Simply toooooo much….LMAO! Ok, Elisabeth, I think everyone would agree that this thread should be moved over to R&R, where it belongs. If anyone wants to continue this over there, that’s fine. Oh, man. Too much. HH

It’s interesting how you put that: “I NEED to make a dessert”. Actually,…you don’t. And perhaps you should consider not doing so. Dessert is a cultural thing. It’s a tradition that we end most of our meals with something sweet and yummy. But consider where the “sweet and yummy” stuff has gotten you. It probably played a significant role in getting you to the point where you needed WLS. You really need to break the “cycle” of events that brought you to this point. For many people, this means indulging in sweets, and the TASTE of sweets. Perhaps it’s time to make that a part of your PAST. Some people might respond that “you can have some sweets, only make it a lot less”. And that may be true, BUT for a LOT of people (the vast majority, I think) it’s not that simple. It’s kind of like telling an alcoholic “you can still have the booze, just make it a little less”. It just doesn’t work that way. Some people might also suggest that you try something sugar-free, artificially sweetened. Many experts believe that this is also NOT a good idea. It keeps you addicted to the tastes of “sweetness”. And, to be quite honest, the artificial sweeteners that are most commonly in use today (Splenda, Equal, etc,) have a host of bad reactions, allergies, etc, associated with them. Some people consider them to be poison, or close to it. The idea of “sugar replacements” can also be likened to the idea of giving a Heroin addict methadone to “wean” him off of the bad stuff. What they have found is that the Methadone can be as bad as the heroin, addiction-wise. The same could be said about artificial sweeteners, but to a much lesser degree. This is a time of change in your life. A change for the BETTER. It would be in your best interests to stay away from the sweets, and concentrate on good, HEALTHY foods; foods that will help move you FORWARD to a state of health, rather than tie you to a past that has given you much pain and heartache. Liver diet? Should I be doing that?
Headhunter replied to Fluffy420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your surgeon does not SPECIFICALLY tell you to follow a diet for "the liver", then don't. You would likely know by now if there was a liver problem that needed some form of intervention, medically. Simply do EXACTLY what the Dr told you to do, and don't do anything else. Very often diets that people go on to specifically impact one organ or function can have ANOTHER (sometimes negative) effect on an entirely different organ or function. So don't mess with it; do what the Doc said. HH -
Tough love for fat people: Tax their food to pay for healthcare
Headhunter replied to BethFromVA's topic in Rants & Raves
I'm thinking that, based upon that logic, perhaps we should Tax Congress on every stupid decision they make. This would, of course, eliminate the national Debt in a matter of weeks. HH -
Lap Band helps with the battle but the war is psychological
Headhunter replied to sadie11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A very good post, indeed. I have said many, many times on this forum that the whole weight loss issue is mostly a "mind game" for MOST people. Counseling by a QUALIFIED and EXPERIENCED Psychotherapist who is a demonstrated specialist in Bariatric Issues SHOULD be as much a part of your WLS as the Surgeon is. It can make all the difference in whether you succeed or fail at this. But the MOST important question of all would be: Sadie, how did you get so lucky as to be able to hold a sedated lynx??? HH -
why lap band ... as opposed to other surgery
Headhunter replied to Paulo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had the RNY for about 15 months now, and I can tell you that my appetite has GREATLY diminshed. It diminished from DAY ONE, like Nanook. I was almost concerned for a while that I didn't want to eat ANYTHING. But a much smaller appetite eventually returned. It IS true, and it is one of the documented elements of the RNY: the appetite decreases....sometimes dramatically. Those who gain weight post-bypass are those who are afflicted with the "head hunger", and the accompanying emotional issues. The band has some "theoretical" Hunger reduction in the concept, but it doesn't always (rarely, in fact) turn out to be the case. You cannot count on it. If hunger is a HUGE part of your eating issue, then the band cannot guarantee a solution. The Sleeve might be an appropriate solution, as it specifically eliminates one of the primary hunger producing glands, the Fundus. The RNY does not eliminate the Fundus, but it ISOLATES it. The band does neither. HH -
You think its Racist? What it “is” is a perfect example of someone taking a NON-RACIAL issue and turning it into an issue of RACISM…..which can only be done, actually, by a RACIST. (you, by the way.) I’m not going to get into this any further. I have very strong feelings about this subject and about people like you, but I don’t often involve myself in Non-WLS issues here. And I’m not going to start now. But you have essentially called Beth a racist. And that is quite reprehensible. As far as you observing my “hunting” ways, you may have observed, but you have clearly not UNDERSTOOD. On occasion it is necessary to beat things a bit to make people “get it”….. which you clearly do not. But beating something “beyond its death”? Hardly. I usually don’t say ENOUGH. Ok. Done here. HH

Huh? You’re serious? So, let me see if I get this straight: The moderator closes a thread (which is done here rarely) but YOU think that what YOU have to say about a particular word is important enough to, in essence, OVERRIDE what the Moderator has done? So you start a NEW thread in the WRONG place just so you can voice your own opinion about the use of a word? Sorry, but THAT smacks of superiority in a much larger way than anything Beth had to say. And besides; Beth was being very polite, comparatively. I’m not sure “ghetto” would have been my choice of words. I don’t think I would have been nearly as nice. And for your information, a person can most certainly be “ghetto”…..if that’s who they CHOOSE to become. And that does indeed appear to be a choice the OP had made. HH
