    Confused!!!!

I did not mean to sound like I am correct and that is that. I said many times that it is a personal decision to make, I found that the RNY would fit me best because of the fact that I am tired of struggling for my weight. This has been a life long battle for me, I have tried losing weight since I was 11. Whoever compared the RNY to religion is wrong in my opinion. This is a debatable issue that has to do with your health. Yes the RNY has complicatios but if I am correct, the lapband has many as well, check your own threads, erosion, gerd, slippage, infection, leakage, and lack of weight loss. This information was not only researched by many people but was told to me by a few medical professionals that do the procedure and have had it done. If the RNY was so wrong, then why are the some Doctors having it done on themselves? Yes it is risky and dangerous but if you look at it that way, any time someone is under the knife its dangerous. After affects, would be like the band, nausea and vomiting if eaten to fast or too much. Yes reversal is not as easy as the band, but many people would not dream of reversing it because of the results being so great, only with life threatening complications will they take out the band or reverse the RNY. In regards to gaining weight, you will gain weight with the band as well, actually even easier to cheat the band and gain weight rather than the bypass. I don't want that. My Doctor said that this is not an easy way out like the band, this is only a tool to help you lose the weight, so you still have to watch what you eat and you HAVE to exercise, so please, all you bandsters out there, don't criticize a person because they want RNY it is a tough decision already and it requires just as much hard work as the band, with rny it's just a malabsorptive issue, but your body still will absorb the fat and many of the calories, just trying to tell you that it is just as hard as the lap band. In regards to studies, I ask you all that you research what you say before you say it. There are many studies going on and there have been people even wanting to ban the band, because with the majority of people it is useless. Very few people lose all the weight they need. Go online and research the clinical studies, then inform confused people. But number one though, people should do the research themselves, and come to conclusions on their own needs, just like I did, I was stuck on the lap band and even called people crazy for doing the RNY, but when I went to support groups and seminars that offered a lot of info on all the procedures, then RNY was for me. Please don't sound sinical, about doctors either. Yes everyone is out there for the money EVERYONE, but the Doctor that I went to was so compassionate, and told me that it was all my decision, with the weight that I need to lose, and being the young age that I am, the Rny would be good. Again, this is not an easy way out and no one should think that way, for me it is the last resort, there are so many there that have the band and within a few months go and have the rny. Why do you think that is?

    Confused!!!!

I also had my mind set on getting the lap band. I had an appointment with a very highly recommended doctor about the surgery. He informed me that I also have another choice, I could have RNY bypass. At first I firmly said no, I have done a lot of research...ALOT and I am stuck on the Lapband, then he gave me more information about the bypass, and coming from a doctor, it made me change my mind. He said that he is not talking me into it or trying to force me to do anything, he told me it was strictly my decision. He got me thinking, and I asked the Dr. "being overweight all my life, and then doing everything to lose weight, losing and then gaining all the time, and now being 28 and 310 pounds, and you being a medical professional with over 30 years experience, which surgery would you choose if you were in my shoes" he said the bypass. I asked if it was reversible because the main reason that I wanted the band was because it was reversible, he said yes the Rny is reversible as well but both surgeries require that you have a lot of complications to be reversed they just don't take it out when you want it out, so I have to think of both as permanent. Then he told me that they both cost about the same. Many bodies reject the band, it has just as many complications as the RNY, you could have obstruction, leakage, port infections, minimal weight loss only 50%, GERD, to top it all off you have to always go for fills which are expensive, and constantly be at the DR. After hearing all of that from a medical professional, I decided to go to a support group meeting of many people (30)that have had gastric bypass, RNY. I asked questions to all of them left and right, they were very forward, and told me everything I needed to know. It was very encouraging to me. Hence, I decided to go with the gastric bypass. I would rather do that, lose all the weight I need to instead of 50% meaning if I need to lose 150 then I will only lose 75. Doesn't seem worth it for only that amount. I was freaked out about having rearranged my anatomy, but knowing it is reversible, put my mind at ease. GO to a support group. It will make the world of difference. It changed my VERY confused mind, remember, I have done months of research and I think RNY is the best for me. One person put it very simple for me...he was very confused as well, did not know what to do, he had his daughter (who is very smart) and an attorney that is very successful do loads of research in every which way, books, online, etc. and basically the conclusion is that it is a lifestyle change for the best and the only requirement is that you are very careful with your Vitamins to take daily, and to eat slowly, exercise. Then there is what is called a honeymoon period where your body just loses the weight the first year. I can't wait for this. GOD be with us all and help you make your decision, trust in HIM who is Great and He will help you as He did for me. WITH CHRIST WE ARE SAVED
  3. HEY THERE GUYS, MY APPOINTMENT IS THURSDAY!!!!! I am very excited yet very nervous. I am nervous about the questions they ask and stuff. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for the first consulting appointment? By the way, my bingeing is over now. It was a first time thing for me that is why I posted the thread because I did not know why this was happening, come to find out, it was hormonal (of what the DR. tells me), I wouldn't start my period and thought I was pregnant, went to my Doc told him what's going on and my test was negative, and wouldn't you know it, I started two days later. He tells me that hormones play a big role in our lives, from eating to our moods to our hair, and not to worry if it was a one time thing. Thanks for your input anyways, I really appreciate it, now I am back to norm and don't even have an apetite...I ate oatmeal for goodness sakes:yuck: You see this is what confuses the crap out of me, I don't eat much, I try to eat healthy, no exercise though...can't find the time, and yet I don't lose the weight and I am really heavy, and have been all my life. I see people 1/4 of my size eating like crazy and eating what they want and not gaining any weight:angry I hope the lapband help. Well thanks for listening guys, could you give me some info on what happenend on your appointments so I could know what to expect. Thanks:help:

    Hey there guys!!!!!!!

My first appointment is on Thursday, I am kind of nervous because I am scared of surgery as well. But I know that this is going to help me once and for all finally, I know that we could do it. I have done it before by losing 120 pounds, and then gaining it all back. :faint: I just hope that this will help me. I get scared when I read a lot of the posts here. Like about slippage and erosion and people not losing weight and stuff, it freaks me out. So only time will tell. I will let you know how the appointment will go. Are you out of state? Your time tells me that you are in the UK.?
  5. Have any of you been bingers (if that's how it's spelled) before your surgery? Can you binge now? I can't stop binging right now, I am under tremendous stress, and I know I shouldn't eat, and I tell myself not to eat, but I just do. I don't know why, it's like I can't get enough. Like this morning I had pupusa (like a flat tamale) with the salsa and everything and I had a can of coke-which I hardly ever have, then an hour later a coworker brought in 5 different kinds of pie, and I am not hungry, but I went ahead and ate the two slices of pie along with four oreo Cookies, I can't stop. :hungry: Also, I went and bought another can of soda( very bad) I never drink soda, but when I binge I go for soda, knowing it's bad for me. Can anyone tell me what is happening, this is why I can't wait to be banded, so that this will stop. My appointment to see the Dr. is on the 16th. When the DR. knows you binge, does that stop you from becoming a candidate for surgery? I don't know why I am hurting myself like I am, and I don't want anyone to see how much I am eating because I am embarrased, I know my coworkers always talk about it. ROZIROZE

    Can't stop binge-ing

thanks for your advice, what I meant about hiding the food was I don't want anyone to see me eating that is why I will go to my desk and eat where I am hidden from people. This is new to me I don't know why I am doing this. I don't know whether my hormones are off the wall or if it's from my seizure medicine, or whether I can be pregnant or not, I am not starting my period:angry . Right now I feel horrible that I ate that much, I was telling my Husband what is going on and he is shocked. He tells me to be careful, and try to see if I can get in sooner to see my Dr. I am very frustrated right now and I think I took out my frustration on myself trying to comfort myself. Thank you all for your help. I hope this is a phase that I am going through and this will end soon, today was a bad day for me. I probably ate a good 2500 calories. All bad. I should just hit myself.:think :think thanks for your support:faint:

Low Rise Jeans and Thong Panties

I am a real sexy tiger on the inside, so I find incredible lingerie and sexxxxxxy panties at lane bryant. I love thongs, if they are the right size they will not go up your bum. Try them, if I am not on my period that is all I wear. The ones I have from lane bryant are all cotton, soft and no pantie lines, they don't ride up. I gaurantee it, anyone who tries it will love it. In regards to Jeans, Lane Bryant carries "7 SEVEN " Jeans in our size from 12-28. They are the most comfortable, best fitting jeans I have ever worn, and trust me I have tried them ALL. It is a tad stretchy and lifts your bum and the length is just perfect enough for tennis shoes and even boots. THE BEST, gives me alot of confidence to wear lace thongs and seven jeans!! PS DeLarla Love your website, I am going to order a few things for valentines.:kiss2:

    Can't stop binge-ing

thanks for your reply, this has just happened to me recently. I am just really stressed out, and I guess I look for food as my comfort. I never drink soda, and I guess I am just craving alot of the sugar. I would not even consider RNY as an option. I am really against that. When come time of the month for me, I just want to eat, it is that time now, and to top it all off, I am not starting, which is stressing me out horribly because I don't want to be pregnant. This is the reason for my binging. I think the lap band would be perfect for me as it will restrict my eating for a while and then I will get used to it. That is how it was for me before, I started my diet, it was hard, and then I got used to eating like that and lost over 120 pounds. I don't know, I am just confused right now:confused: . I just really hope that I will be a candidate for Lapband. I am at my heaviest right now and I cannot deal with dieting again, as I have tried time and time again and failed. Like I mentioned, I lost all that weight and gained it all back and then some:faint: thanks...rozirozee

    Xenical

My Cousin took xenical and lost over 40lbs. She was very happy and ate what she wanted but lost weight. Only problem, she had anal leakage:faint: she had to wear pads-large ones-because the fat would seep through her clothes. Imagine that.:omg: ROZzzzIII
  11. Hello everyone, I agree with losing weight slowly. In the past I lost 120 pounds very quickly with a program like Lindora. But unfortunately, I gained it all back and then some. It was horrible, imagine, all your life being heavy, then finally losing all your weight and looking like a model, just to turn around and put it back on again...imagine the depression that I face everyday, because I finally had confidence, high self esteem, I felt like I could accomplish anything in the world. But now I am back to being heavier than I was, I let stress get the best of me, then got married and pregnant and gained over 130 pounds. It makes me tear up just remembering. Important thing is my Hubby loves me thick or thin. But I want to do this mainly for my health. I am really achy and tired all the time, I totally lack confidence, I hate going places because I am scared people are going to laugh at me and make fun of me, worst of all...it puts a strain on my marriage, because I am very jealous and my Hubby gives me absolutely no reason to be. I want to lose weight to be healthy for my daughter, so I could be there to play with her run with her, but now I can't. Anyways, I have an appointment coming up soon to get "banded":clap2: One question that I can't seem to get a response on people........ Can someone give me the definitions to your abbreviations. Like PB and all the things you guys use here. It is really confusing to read stuff you don't understand. THANKS ALOT:biggrin1: :biggrin1:
  12. Hello everyone, I am very happy to find this forum. I have a appt. on 2/11 & I'm very nervous. I have been hearing horror stories about lap band. One of my close friends went to 6 different symposiums and they all say the same. She ended up having Gastric Bypass RNY. She is very happy with the results. Now she is telling me that in the beginning she was stuck on having lapband no matter what but going to the meetings made her think otherwise. Even the FDA website tells you that there is 90% complications with the lapband, especially with leakage, slipping and extreme nausea and vomiting. I am 130 pounds overweight, and I am very goal oriented to lose the weight. I have done every diet, at one point I lost 120 pounds, and gained it all and then some. I think this will be great for me but I am very scared of all the complications. If this matters...I don't have a gall bladder either, and am extremely nauseated after surgery, ( I always vomit after surgery) Please help me with my situation, and give me advice. I have picked Dr. Quilici in Burbank California, he is highly recommended, do you guys know anyone else. I appreciate your help. ROzI
  13. Hello everyone, I am very happy to find this forum. I have a appt. on 2/11 & I'm very nervous. I have been hearing horror stories about lap band. Now she is telling me that in the beginning she was stuck on having lapband no matter what, but going to the meetings made her think otherwise. The FDA website tells you that there is 90% complications with the lapband, especially with leakage, slipping and extreme nausea and vomiting and worst...erosion. I am 130 pounds overweight, and I am very goal oriented to lose the weight. I have done every diet, at one point I lost 120 pounds, and gained it all and then some. I think this will be great for me but I am very scared of all the complications. I've had gall bladder surgery as well, and have a lot of problems with my stomach as a result of my surgery, I don't know if they will even do the lap band. Does anyone have info in regards to this. What scares me as well is the fact that everytime that I've had surgery, due to the anesthesia, I vomit very badly. Wouldn't vomiting be bad after a lap band procedure? With some research I found a Dr. by the name of Dr. Quilice in Burbank CA. I wanted to know if there was any other experienced Dr. in LA that you guys would recommend? Last question, I experience stomach pain and get really weak, and light headed if I don't eat on time or when I start a diet, did any of you experience this before lap band and how are you now? Thanks and sorry about my long story!!!!! ROziroze

I want this so baaad NEED HELP!!!

thats really scary. I mean you're going to trust that person with your life...be careful!!! Can anyone show me how to check my pager or personal messages, as I click on it all I get is a blank screen and a message saying that it was downloaded...
  16. I am so glad that I am not alone in this. Thank you for your advice, being the size I am as well, it is very uncomfortable for me to talk about my weight and my problems, but you make it easy. I know of all the future complications with RNY and I would rather have complications with the band which is reversible rather than something that is permanent. How are you overall? Do you have a lot of pain? My big fear is having to vomit after surgery. No matter how much medicine they have put in my I.V. I still vomit after surgery from the anesthesia. Did you vomit? It's scary because you have a band on your stomach and during vomiting you have to force the Fluid out, doesn't it hurt the band or you? Okay enough vomit talk. Could you fill me in on the little abbreviations used on lapbandtalk. Some I don't understand like VP or PB or stuff like that. Again thanks, and you're right ....All things are possible with Jesus. +

I want this so baaad NEED HELP!!!

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your guidance and help. I cannot get any other advice from people who did not go through it. I think the reason why I get lightheaded and weak, feeling faint, is due to my anemia, I have a low blood level. Not dangerously low, but it has always been a few points lower than normal, when I start dieting, this gets worse, but if I eat then it gets fixed. No blood sugar problems. My appointment is with Dr. Quilici on Feb 12. He also does surgery at Cedars Sinai and at Providence St. Joseph in Burbank. They might even work together! As far as the RNY I would never do that. First because it is so invasive, second because they change your anatomy....permanently. There is malabsorption, and in the future those patients have osteoperosis, because of no Calcium, they have chronic diarhea, and a less life expectancy. I want to be healthy and live. Not go through life having to take massive amounts of Vitamins, shots, and all that stuff all my life. When you go to your appointment, could you let me know how it goes, I am really chicken :faint: when it comes to Dr.'s and surgery, which I shouldn't be having surgeries since I was 17. Sad Huh?!?:phanvan

    Sadly another Lopez erosion...

can any one of you recommend a good Dr. in California. I read that mostly all of you are located east but I am hoping anyone of you know a DR. here. Reading a lot of success stories and horror stories, I just want to be pointed in the right direction. THANK YOU:)

    Sadly another Lopez erosion...

That's horrible. Is Dr. Lopez the Dr in Mexico? When you check out his website(the doc in MX) it is very inviting and reassuring to patients that there is nothing to worry about and that he hasn't had any problems with the lap band procedure yet. That is very sad, I myself considered going there for surgery if my insurance did not cover it. I thank God that I have found you guys!!! I have a silly question...I am not able to use these quite smilies can someone tell me how its done. Thanks ROziRoZe
