    Pounds lost

I’m 11 months post surgery and down 107 lbs. I lost the last 15 after having total knee replacement and trying to gain 10 back. I’d like to maintain around 135 lbs
  2. I had rny just after my 51st B-day and was able to get my total knee replacement just after my 52nd!
  3. I was able to get a total knee replacement 6 weeks ago since losing 160 lbs. Off the Cpap machine, lower number of daily medications from 21 to 7. I’m feeling terrific 11 months post RNY!
  4. I made my first pot of bone broth and drank my first cup today!!! Ohhhh so good, warm, savory, delicious and knowing how good it is for skin, lean muscle mass and cellulite made it even better. My goal is to enjoy 2 cups a day for 30 days then 1 cup a day from then on. Here’s to our good, healthy bodies!
  5. I’m 51 and had rny 6 months ago. Feeling good, lost 125 lbs total,
  6. I’m about 3 months post op, lots of complications, in and out of the hospital, and I’ve often wished I’d not had the surgery. I’ve been wearing elastic shorts and now that’s the weather is cooling off I’ve been in loose sweats. Today I’ve got an appointment and grabbed pants from the back of my closet. I laughed at the idea that I could pull on and button a pair of 16 sized jeans. Imagine my delight when I buttoned them and have space in the waist band!!! I was wearing size 22-24 last year at this time!!! I’m so happy!

    Sugar free candy

I like the Brachs Cinnamon and Butterscotch SF candy. I only have one maybe once a week but i like knowing I can enjoy it once in a while.
  8. So I had rny at the end of July. I was eating around 700 calories a day and working to get my water in. About 2 weeks ago I began getting nauseous and vomiting after eating and was only getting around 300 a day. My surgeon did another EGD on Friday 9/21, enlarged a stricture a found a large ulcer. I felt much better over the weekend then early Monday morning I began vomitting large blood clots! My surgeon sent me to ER and I was in ICU for a day and a regular room all week long. I guess the ulcer eroded a vessel that needed clipped and I’ve been without food for the last week. I hope to go home tomorrow, I’ll be back on clear liquids and go through the progressive steps all over again. Not eating or drinking ANYTHING is really rough, especially while lying in the hospital and watching TV all day! Dr says ulcers like mine are rare but a potential complication. Lucky me, I’ll be on a gastric acid inhibitor for life. NBD, I just want to go home!
  9. I agree with what so many people have stated. Please don’t just blow this off. Not only was it VERY unprofessional and insensitive but also against HIPPA regulations! You are a very strong woman who has faced serious challenges and have a strong sense of self but what about the next time these unprofessional staff members do the same thing to a more vulnerable patient? I can’t imagine that this was just a one time occurrence. They looked ashamed and guilty because they were caught not necessarily because they believed they were wrong to be speaking that way. I’d certainly let the office manager and Dr. know to protect other clients.

When did you start taking your vitamins?

I started vitamins months before my surgery and resumed the day after surgery. I take Bariatric multi Vite and Calcium.
  11. I cheated on my pre op diet by eating a salad, twice! Post op I was so sick of liquid I ate some string cheese and a bite of lunch meat. Thankfully I confessed to my Surgeon at my 2 week post op visit last week and he cleared me to eat without restrictions. I have since learned about dumping. Welcome to the consequences!
  12. How about a reminder on your phone or keeping them by your toothbrush. the thing is that you appear from your picture to be pretty young so it may not seem very important right now but it you develop osteoporosis for your kidneys or pancrease stop functioning as well due to vitamin defeciancy your gonna regret something you could have prevented so easily. Its like not wearing your seat belt in the car, or not wearing a helmet on a motorcycle, you may never get in to an accident but what it you do?
  13. My surgeon cleared me to eat FOOD at my 2 week check up, I am choosing pretty soft foods and chewing really well but I've not had any problems,
  14. Cant relate but thanks for the info,
  15. I'm no expert and nor as far along as you but my Dr's are really serious about taking vitamins. The concern of course is for your major organs to function at peak efficiency while you are not absorbing less from your food. Vitamins don't have to be expensive, even a couple of Flintstone chewables a day are better than nothing. I take a multi vitamin twice a day and calcium 3 times a day, I want the best outcome long term. Please call your Dr and check what they say.

    Stomach pains

I've had and continued having some mild to moderate pains in my stomach, especially on the left side. I saw my surgeon at my 2 week post visit. He declared me healing well. He told me that those pains were normal, healing pains and if I had blood in my stool, was vomitting, or the pain was more than tylenol could help then I needed to come back and see him. The first 2 weeks were the most painful, not surprising considering all they messed with on our insides.
  17. Saw my surgeon this morning, he was pleased at how my incisions look and my abdomen feels. He gave me clearance to start adding various foods into my diet starting of course with the soft foods and depending on how I handle things back to regular foods in my own time. He was ok with the idea that 1/4 to 1/2 of a cup of food at each meal was just right and depending on my workout the amount of calories I am getting can be increased. He cleared me to swim and work out but no crunches for a while. Im so excited, no more shakes, soups, and jello!

    Liquid Diet

french onion soup, beef stock, Thai Curry broth,
  19. I’m just 11 days post surgery so my body is still really in the early healing stages. I love this forum because all the contributors have answered so many of my questions and I felt more prepared realizing that a lot of things were normal parts of this way of life. The one thing that shocked me today is the smell of cheddar cheese. I’ve always been a cheese lover and no other smells have really bothered me but my hubby nuked a chili cheese dog for his dinner and I got really nauseated from the foot odor smell of the cheese! Anyone else have any out of the blue, unexpected surprises after surgery?
  20. On the way home from the hospital the day after my RNY my husband had an emergency at his office, Since it was on our way home we stopped in and he needed to stay for a few hours doing damage control. I just left him there and drove myself home. My teen was still on Summer break and around to fetch and carry if I needed her to and of course my Service Dog is always eager to pick up what I drop or need carried but really after the first couple of days, other than being sore, everything is managable.
  21. Thanks for the reply, I hope I have a similar outcome and that my aversion is only temporary,
  22. Wow that IS restrictive, did they give you NO other things like sugar free jellos or sugar free popcycles?

    Poop post op

If you haven't pooped in more than 3 days I'd surely take MOM or something to get things moving, Since my surgery 8 days ago I have made sure to go once a day. I don't want to get constipated and have to fight that battle. Good luck
  24. I had surgery 7/24, drank smooth move tea with no results, finally had a dose of Milk Of Magnesia before bed last night and this morning 7/29 got great results with no straining. My Dr office recommended MOM with prune juice but it worked for me without the juice. I feel much better and relieved that all is working. Good luck.

To tell or not to tell

I guess since I don’t judge folks by their personal choices I don’t expect to be judged by mine. I told everyone who was remotely interested and probably several who couldn’t care less. I guess i figure it’s my life and my choices so I’m not really interested in others opinions about me. It does sadden me to see people hurt by cruel things that friends and family have said the them regarding WLS. I just don’t understand how hurting someone feels good. I’m proud of all of us who have or are going to embark on this trip, it’s tough but we will prevail!!
