  1. I was banded on the 17th of September. Feeling great, recovered quickly- in the mushie stage now. I have lost 12 lbs already and Monday will start to go to Curves again. I am having one problem, the drinking water before after and during meals. Can you tell me the reason they do not want you to drink at those times? Is it because it fills you up before meals, and then washes it down, therefore allowing you to eat more? Or is it because it may cause you to get stuck? Thanks

    New and Scared

I had my surgery on Wednesday and it wasn't till Monday that I felt well enough to say I am feeling better! Hang in there! Has your Dr. allowed you to drink protein shakes-- those made a world of difference with me. Take it easy and it will get better. Congratulations on your journey!

    Anesthesia tube question

You will not feel a thing! I just had my surgery 9/17 and my concern was like you... the tube--- only to find out I did not feel a thing. They do it once you are knoced out, and will have it out before you are awake. You may feel a little scratchy in your throat, but use the incentive speromiter they give you to breath, and you will be fine! Good luck!!!
  5. The Day has finally come.... tomorrow I have my lap band surgery! I am excited, :tt2:anxious, scared :unsure:combined! I have to stay overnight, which I did not think was necessary, but hey Dr. knows best. All the instructions from the nutritionist for post op, have become so confusing. I hope they re-empahsize what I need to do after I complete the surgery. Just wanted to say hi.
  6. Restless Monkey,-- I must first say thanks for your responses to almost every post. I look forward to hearing what you have to say. I am getting banded on Wednesday and to be honest I am excited yet very scared... I am not toooo keen on needles and IV's  but I am going to have to suck it up. I wanted to ask you what is the band you are referreing to the newer "AP BAND" -- is that vs. the regulary Lap band or the realize band? Thanks for your help ALWAYS!!!
  7. I have my surgery scheuled for Sept 17th. I am really excited, but recently ran into a person that told me-- I hope they don't postpone your surgery like they did her friends due to a "fatty liver". Does anyone know anything about that.... and if so-- what do I need to do in order to prepare so that I do not face the same obstacle. Thanks!!!

when did you know surgery was for you?

For me... it was 2 summers ago, when I took my, then 4 year old daughter, to the amusement park, well, she could not get on a ride alone, needed an adult-- my husband doesn't do spinning rides too well, so I had to get on with her. When they tried to put the bar down, I was TOO BIG--- I was Horrified, always knew I was overweight, but never to the point of being asked to leave a ride, my daughter was devestated, to the point where a stranger offered for her to to ride with him and his daughter. Then I went to a seminar, after hearing about the post op diet, I said, well, if this is what I have to do after surgery, I can do that now and lose weight--- HOW WRONG I WAS... I gained even more, until April of this year, we decided to take the my 2 daughter (6 and 3) to Disney, I begged and pleaded to my husband to wait until next year... and then DECIDED-- Lap Band is the way to go. I need to be able to get on the rides with my girls. Today, I got my insurance approval and surgery date of Sept 17. Yahooooo!
  12. I think I have finally decided to go ahead and have the surgery. I have been going back and forth for the past 1.5 years trying to decide. I have now set an appointment to meet with the surgeon on May 2nd, (of course I hope I don't chicken out again) I am hoping my insurance will not be hard to work with. They said they will cover it but I am hoping they will not find a loop hole and say "no". Anyone know if Aetna is tough to deal with? I have Aetna open access. I would appreciate your input.
