    Menstrual Cycle

My surgery triggered my period early. I had maybe 5 days left before my period was due to come but ended up getting it the night of my surgery. Imagine being in the hospital recovering from surgery while dealing with a heavy period and those terrible hospital pads and underwear. Nightmare. 😂

    Hard lump under incision

Yup. I went to the ER when I noticed the lump under my largest incision. Imaging found nothing to worry about. My surgeon told me it’s just normal tissue inflammation that will go away with time. I’ll be 7 weeks out Wednesday and the lump is gone.

How often do you weigh yourself?

I weigh daily, in the morning when I get up, in my birthday suit. 😂 But I’m going to put my scale away for a while. I feel myself starting to obsess over the number and pick myself apart about what I must be doing wrong. The truth is I’m following my plan and doing some moderate exercise (walking and light weight lifting) but my weight loss isn’t nearly as fast as I had hoped. I’m 6 weeks out and have lost 18 pounds. So right now I’m in the process of adjusting my expectations, trying to celebrate my NSVs (like the fact that I’m wearing pants I haven’t been able to wear in years!) and trying to remind myself that I’m so early in this journey, my body has been through a lot and I need to appreciate the process even when it’s tough. I wish the same for you!
  4. As I understand it, everything you’ve listed are known “sliders,” meaning they go down easily with little to no restriction. Solid food will definitely be different. I can easily down Greek yogurt but 2 oz of thinly shredded chicken salad in lite mayo fills me up!

Day 16 has not been easy

My plan won’t even allow me near solids until week 9!

    Help!!

All very normal. The cramps were so bad for me the first week home that it woke me up at night. Everyone’s given great advice. Just follow it. You’ll feel better soon. :)
  7. These results sound great to me. I’ll be on week 5 this coming Wednesday and so far I’ve lost 17 pounds since surgery. Hit a stall between week 2-3 and it finally broke. It was frustrating but I’m happy with my progress. There’s no way for this not to work as long as we do what we’re supposed to do. You’re doing great. Stalls are the not fun part of the process.

    Help/Advice Please.

I’m 4 weeks out from VSG and had a similar lump under my largest incision. It was very painful. Felt like i was being ripped in half whenever i changed position in bed, got up or sat down. I was worried that it was a seroma or a port hernia. I went to the ER where they did a bunch of imaging. Turns out everything was fine. No hernia or fluid pockets. When I followed up with my surgeon a couple days later, she told me the lump is completely normal and it’s just tissue inflammation from the healing process. She said it could take up to a year for the lump to smooth out but the pain would diminish soon. She was right. The pain is practically gone now. The lump isn’t as pronounced as before so it’s making progress. The pain meds I was sent home with got me through the painful part. Walking did too. I hope your situation is as harmless as mine was.

    Sludge in gallbladder

My gallbladder went to hell a year before my sleeve. I desperately wanted to save my gallbladder because I kept reading horror stories about people who had it removed. But I was having constant, super painful attacks that would wake me up at night and keep me up for hours. I ended up in the ER once when a stone got stuck in the bile duct. Sludge kept my gallbladder inflamed even when the stones were getting stuck. Apple cider vinegar helped to end the attacks a little sooner but they did nothing to prevent them. Changing my diet helped but even when I ate on plan, I would still have surprise attacks. All the online “flushes” are mythical. I ended up having my gallbladder removed the same time I was sleeved. My surgeon said it’s a good thing I did. I had several large stones and the organ itself was enlarged and inflamed. Could have ruptured if I let it go on much longer. Trust me. Removal was the last thing I wanted. But think about it. I’m so happy to have those attacks in the past!

    Vitamins I love

I wouldn’t stock up on vitamins pre-op. I took the Celebrate Complete pre-op and found that my stomach couldn’t handle them AT ALL after surgery. They made me violently ill. I had to switch to a vitamin d3 softgel, Flintstones Complete and the monthly B12 shot. Not everyone will become intolerant of their vitamins after, but be mindful just in case. ;)
  11. Hi Kev! This is my first post. I usually browse but I wanted to share as getting my fluids was the hardest part for me. I had two ER visits and one clinic visit for IV fluids because it was such a struggle. This was really my fault. I was sipping too slowly when I could handle more than I thought I could. One day I just decided I was going to really push myself and go for it. I was surprised at what I could handle. Now I can finish a 16.9oz bottle of water in less than 15 minutes. I’m 3 weeks out. Sleeved on June 13. Feel things out first, but see if you can push yourself a little more. Good luck!
