I was banded in may and have never had any bowel problems, since my surgery I have had constipation issues, I knew going into the band surgery my gallbladder was bad. It gave me no prblems again until the last month and had it remove on tuesday last evening I was severely backed-up to the point it made me physically ill. I was up all night but the damn was broke. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem since surgery. I've included colace with my meds and drink a lot of water. But Oh I need some help with this. Sorry it's not such a nice topic. If anyone has suggestions this would be great. Sheenah

I was banded on May 5th and have only lost 10 lbs since surgery had some complications but finally had my first fill on July 1st and thought I would have some restriction and have none calling for a early appt also. Hey Ebeth I was banded on May 5th and my diet from my doctor for the first week after surgery was pureed/mushy food. Then On May 12th went back to the doctor and they told me to eat regular foods with the no carbanation/no fluids after meals etc.... But that was it, it was important for me to eat the regular food and get use to the rest of my life. I had my first fill yesterday did clears for 24 hours as instructed and then regular food tonite as I was told, I picked mushy but was ok. I think you will be fine with your diet every doctor is different. And this is a tool for the rest of your life and you have to learn how to use it. I was banded on may 5th was doing well went to first post-op check up sites looked great on may 12th, over the next weekend did not feel well but was to return to work on the 18th felt bad that day but thought if I got up and did something like work I'd work it out and be ok. Got to work and started having hot spells with cold sweats no temp and my large incision start draining. Went to the doctor the next morning yes for infection place on 750mg Levaquin a week later they added Bactrim DS taking both levaquin was up at fourteen days. Sites are improved but the 2 worse ones are still pink hot and hard. This weekend I had a bad spell thought I was fixin to die for real, but it finally passed after hours will call the office in the morning but I wanted this so bad to improve my health and Its been a rough start. I am just ready to get started but I am afraid before I get that chance they are gonna want to take it out and start all over. What to do. I'm a nurse and I know errors were made with me for that one night stay and I believe they cause these problems, is just so frustrating, I don't know what to do. I'm afraid my family wont want me to try again if I have to. Just venting cause I'm a little scared. Wish me luck. I'll talk to yall soon. Sheemac:unsure:

Yes I didn't make it to lapband world without being a emotional eater. Today my children want to stop at mickey d's so the 3 y/o can play cause he's potty training and doing well. I go in I make a informed choice with a grilled chicken snack wrap order my chidrens food and go to sit down and 2 teenage girls are giggling and talking about me and how FAT? and that I shouldn't be wearing shorts, kinda blow them off and one of them writes in ketchup u r fat Well the new doogie howser just figured out what is wrong with me like I didn't have a clue....So play it off a few loud remarks back and forth but by the time they left I just wanted to go home I'm a grown ass woman and when that stuff happeens it makes me feel like I'm in highschool again it so sucks...so over ate a little which made me feel worse. I have to tall skinny boys and thank god daily that they did not take after me in the fat department..And my 16 yr old would never cause I taught him better. I said to the mother you need to teach your dtr better manners, she just looked puzzled and walked on ... I just hate that I have started this journey and I am trying so hard and something so small trashes me for the afternoon. Just needed to vent a little. wondering around for hours. Hello tricare prime retired southeast region, aproved in a month seminar on 3/13 then dietician and thearpy visit, pre-op visit 4/27 and surgery on 5/5. Not hard at all 2 12 dollar co-pays my part for hospital stay 90 bucks. It really went pretty well once the ball started rolling. Just stay pro-active don't wait for them to call you call them. I wasn't banded when I went to DisneyWorld but I do know that everything is not just fries and burgers. They have many regular restraunts within all the parks and even in some of the quick variety places almost most of them have healthy alternatives. I know since I was banded that any kinds of buns don't agree with me, so I take the grilled chicken and such off and cut it up with veggies or salad. If any small Snacks or like pop tarts do well that would be good to carry, but I think you will be fine have been there many times, food is really over the top. Have a good time. hey maggie I have really bad knees too. They just run through a list of strength exercise with a resistant band to make sure you can do them after the surgery, but every surgeon is different and you may not have to go to PT it was for only one visit. Good Luck Shee

Hello I am a tricare prime retired pt had been battling tricare for 2 years when they finally decided to pass it so I had many of my milestones done. I did not have to do a 6 month pre-op diet. My first referral was about 2 hours away from me also. I checked around and found a tricared( in -network) doctor closer to me which I am so glad now that I did, small complications. But it was really easy for me had my first vist on 3/13 (consultation) stayed in phone contact with nurse through dietician and physical thearpy. pre-op visit 4/27. Did like a 2 week diet low carb/1000 calorie diet to shrink my liver. Some docs do strict liquids pre-op mine did not. and then my surgery was May 5th, paid like 2 $12 co-pays and my hospital bill was around $90 total. So I had no problem with tricare at all. If you have had out pt surgery before and do well with going home then I think you will be fine. My insurance would go either way and my doc is new at the lap band so he is keeping us all over night. Just make sure that you have a box a gas X strips and your liquid pain meds if your gonna take it to the house. You'll probaly be up alot that night trying to walk the gas out. My sister stayed with me at the hospital, so I know your husband will be a great help. Good Luck.. Shee:thumbup:

And most people that go home do get IV abt's in surgery as precautions not for problems jsut because your body with fight the surgery cause it's trying to heal your body. Just FYI Thanks Sheemac

My surgeon is new at these and I'm sure he was doing it as a protective measure. Lots of docs do that to keep the risk of infection down, he also gave us morphine pumps when alot of people just go home after there surgery elsewhere he keeps us overnight. Yet 2 other banded that same day went home on oral abt's so I guess it has to do with your previous history also. Neverless my protective measured was not carried out and I have been on antibiotics for a month come the end of the week and it's not completely gone. Trying to stay positive maybe he will have good news for me because I can't have a fill either untill it's all gone if I get to keep it. What to do??? Thanks for the reply. Sheemac

Sammie call your moms surgeon they will do the test right away to see if it has slipped or eroded. She may think that some vomiting comes with the band but it doesn't. Just watch out for her and talk to her and tell her you are worried and scared. Good Luck let us know if everything is ok. Sheemac :tongue2:

My Iv came out at 6pm that night. I was due three more bags of IV antibiotics, one of the other docs was on that night and he does do lap bands or likes to give orders on them to were the nurse i had had called him 4 times and he did not want to respond. I got out of my bed went to the floor I worked on and printed there standing orders and took them to her just to get something for pain. It was never mentioned to my doc about missed abt's and he's the one that said we may have to start all over. But my family who was very supportive is now getting scared. well I thought I'd just leave you with this, if is within the first month it still could be pockets of gas. But if you are having reflux/heartburn and having those pain and you have lost weight already it could be your gallbladder. Lots of the go bad after the band or bypass. I am a nurse to and have researched both procedures for years and finally took the plunge last month. You know going into it, it is not a end all. It's a tool to help you the emotional part doesn't leave you completely but I am 37y/o with a three year old and a sixteen year old and a mother that died at the age of 53. You have to want it for you. I wanted it for me and my children especially my three year old. The emotionally part is still hanging around but you don't eat as much, your full so much quicker and it makes you make better decisions. You have to talk it out with yourself and others but I bet if you have that beautiful little girl to go home to she will help you through all your struggles. Mine help me. I wish you the best. Have some faith, I know alot of us thick chicks have problems in having faith in ourselves but WE can do it. Sheemac:thumbup:

I haven't had blisters my incision sites got infected. But I am a nurse and have worked as a treatment nurse and have seen a lot of blisters with tape just let the air get to them and they should get better soon. sheemac:cool2:
