Fever, pain & vomiting . IM OVER it

@kokolat2005 I have so been there. I had an odd thing happen where I got a new PICC line and within 24 hours, I was full of blood clots. My right arm to neck was 80% occluded. I had them in my leg and my lung. I didn’t feel well so my doctor had my go to the hospital for the line to be checked. I drove myself there lol. I ended up in ICU and once I was more stable, I was sent to a university hospital for a few weeks. I here you on the almost dying thing. It was terrifying. I had the line taken out and I switched to a feeding tube. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping this all gets better soon. Keep advocating for yourself!!

Fever, pain & vomiting . IM OVER it

I had that with my sleeve in 2014. It sucked, but it gave my stomach the time it needed to rest and heal. Make sure they keep an eye on that PICC line, and you just take care of you. It was an odd time, as they also wouldn’t let me lose weight. They would hang a bag of fats every day. I would laugh about having weight loss surgery and being given fats. I then had a feeding tube and the daily caloric count was over 2,000. Again, I had to laugh. I was an overweight woman with a feeding tube. Sometimes I just had to find the humor. I’ll be thinking of you, as I have been there. Know you can come out of this just fine, and still get to your goals! ❤️
  3. I really like Protidiet water flavorings. It isn’t powder, so no chalky aftertaste. It is more of a gel to mix in your water. I have had a peach mango one almost every day for 4 years. It has 15 grams of protein. My surgeon sells them pretty cheap but I know they are also on Amazon.
  4. It’s crazy how different our bodies are. I waited a year or more to have a drink, and I was trashed from two sips. I still get teased for that day lol. I just converted to bypass on 6/26, so who knows how it will go when I try again in a year or so.

    Coming up with a blank

I think all the boxes were checked for pre-op stuff from my sleeve in 2014, so they just thought I was good. I think they forgot that I had complications for 6 months and mainly lived in the hospital. I didn’t get to do the phases or all that. I am going to make sure they sign me up for all post op classes for each phase. I also appreciate this group, thank you!

    Coming up with a blank

I am in the same situation. I had the sleeve in 2014, and converted to bypass on 6/26. There were no classes beforehand, no handouts, no pre-op diet, etc. I see my surgeon tomorrow afternoon. I’ve been doing protein shakes, protein water, and sugar free popsicles.
  7. I had my revision to bypass on 6/26, and I was so proud of how well I rocked it. I was zooming those halls and drinking like a champ. My drain couldn’t come out, as it was draining too much. A home nurse came out twice and still had to leave the drain in. I started having awful pain on Sunday and finally went to ER yesterday. The drain was kept in too long and got an infection. The pain radiates up to my chest and collarbone so I am kind of miserable. I keep getting small fevers but am hopeful the antibiotics kick in soon. I want to go back to zooming around!

    Sleeve to RNY

I had my revision to bypass done on 6/26. I had the sleeve in 2014, and has every complication you could think of. It was awful. Once I learned I would have to convert to bypass due to severe reflux, I panicked. It actually went great. It was so much better than the sleeve. Does it hurt? Yep, I am sore. I am able to deal with it, walk a lot, get my sips in, and work on protein goals. I was too sick to do any of that before so this has been a nice change. I don’t regret it at all.
  9. Has anyone had issues with their JP drain? This is my 2nd time having one, as I was sleeved in 2014. The drain was gross but not too much of an issue. I converted to bypass on 6/26 due to reflux, and it still just seemed like a necessary nuisance. Last night was my first night at home, and it was hard to lay in bed or get comfy. I missed having the bar above to grab onto, to help me reposition. I emptied my drain last night around 11, and I woke up soaked. It went through the bandages, binder, pajamas, sheets, mattress pads, etc. The drain itself didn’t leak, but the wound. I called my home nurse and she says I’m okay as long as I’m not actively bleeding. I’m not but it sure has scared me. I think I may sleep on my reclining couch tonight. Anyone have something similar happen? Any tips or advice?

    JP Drain Issues

It was laparoscopic. I had one with my sleeve in 2014 and now with RNY. I guess it is a Catch 22, as I wouldn’t want all of this stuff floating around, trying to be absorbed. I also have a huge clot in the drain, so I am glad it’s in there and not in me. I had the heparin shots twice daily while in the hospital, to help with blood clots. I got blood clots after my sleeve, so it was scary to see one in my drain. Bodies are disgusting and fascinating all at once lol.

1 week po... Dilation & IV fluids anyone?

I had similar complications with my sleeve in 2014. I hope your doctor continues to work with you and that your new job will be understanding. I get that you want to keep it private, but there may come a time where you might want to talk to your boss. I am hopeful that they would partner with you.
  12. I like Quest, Protidiet, and Oh Yeah bars. My surgeon sells the Oh Yeah and Protidiet ones at his office, and he is usually cheaper than Amazon or stores.

    Just got in trouble!

I have heard good reviews of cricket powder, but the thought does give me a little bit of the heebs lol. I was always told no to mashed potatoes. No real nutritional value for a low carb, high protein diet. When I had my first surgery in 2014, a nurse let me have cream of potato soup and my surgeon came in and got so mad that it was even an option. Let’s just say it is no longer on any menu lol.
  14. I really want to try it! It’s expensive, but I know how important vitamins are. I was originally sleeved on 2/2014, and had horrible issues with nausea and not keeping vitamins down. I just converted to bypass 6/26, and I feel a ton better, but am still nervous about how vitamins will work since I also have the malabsorption.
  15. My revision was yesterday due to severe reflux. They have me on Protonix while at the hospital, and I will go back to Prilosec and Zantac once I’m home. I will then slowly go off of them. So far so good, as I used to taste and feel reflux even on meds.
  16. I had my revision yesterday, and I really hope it helps my reflux. I had erosions in my throat, and that scares me. My grandfather died of esophageal cancer and it started with reflux. I hope things get figured out for everyone!

Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!

That’s awesome advice! I struggle with Goodwill as I am tall but I should look for tops. I buy and sell on Poshmark and that has been fun. I used to shop online at ThredUP but they give you the lowest amount of money for your clothes. They gave me $2 for a brand name dress with tags on. Blah.
  18. I converted from sleeve to bypass yesterday (June 26) to help with reflux. The recovery this time is so much better, as I knew what to expect. I am bummed I’m off the good IV pain meds, as I do feel like I’ve been beat up in my mid-section. I just walk the halls and stick to drinking my 15cc of water every 15 minutes. I hope to go home tomorrow, on my 40th birthday!! I hope everyone else is doing great.
  19. I started at 276. The lowest I got was 150, but I didn’t look good. I feel best around 170 (I’m 5’8”). My sleeve was in 2014, and this month I am switching to bypass due to reflux.
  20. I am having my sleeve converted to bypass on June 26, due to damage from GERD. I had the sleeve in February of 2014, and did really well. I am bummed about another surgery, but I am hopeful that I will feel better and not do any further damage.

    Your Hospital Experience

If you can get a prior auth, insurance can cover Emend. Best medicine ever!!!
  22. Sleeve in 2014, converting to bypass 6/26 due to reflux and damage it has caused. I am super nervous due to complications I had after my sleeve, but am hoping for the best.

    Food Control Me

Best advice, nip it in the bud now. Go see your surgeon and nutritionist, consider counseling to deal with that aspect. I let mine slide and I gained. It is so much harder to take it off when you are out of the honeymoon phase. You can do do this!!
