More things to ponder ladies..... Here are a few things to think about that you probably have never thought about (and if you have you're strange.)....... > Can you cry under Water? > How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered? > Why do you have to "put your two cents in".. . but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to? > Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity? > Why does a round pizza come in a square box? > What disease did cured ham actually have? > How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? > Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours? > If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing? > Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV? > Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground? > Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway. > Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural > Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? > Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane? > If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat? > If Wiley E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner? > If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from? > Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune? > Why did you just try singing the two songs above? > Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

can some veterans help me here?
kim2bhealthy replied to FunnyDuddies's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Funny! I just had my first fill on Tuesday. This is how mine went down... They had me lie on a table, they felt around for my port and had the xray machine positioned so that they could see the port. They gave me a little local anesthesia(this hurt more than the fill needle, but not bad). They insert the fill needle with a little pressure and I heard a pop, letting them know that they were actually in the port. They then leaned the table up to where I was in a standing position (with the fill need/syringe still inserted in my port). Had me drink some barium, we watched it flow through my pounch and into my tummy. They inserted 1.50 cc's and I drank barium again.. they thought it was moving a little slowly, so they took out .25 ccs. More Barium, I drank Water, they watched it flow... they said my pouch and everything looked good! They removed the needle and I was done. Took about 8 minutes, tops! Are your kids old enough to be left in a waiting room? Otherwise, I'm sure they can make arrangements for them... I just wouldn't want them to see a big old needle sticking out of mommy's belly. Most adults that I know were freaked out by me just telling them about it. I joked with my surgeon that next time I am going to snap a photo (of the needle/syringe in my belly) with my phone! Good luck with the fill! I was really intimidated by it, but in the end it was no big deal. The liquid diet afterward sucks, but it's only for a few days! -

Um...I'm here because I saw a post with Tennessee in it... I live in Tennessee and thought it was a new LBT neighbor?! I obviously stumbled into something I didn't want to... Later Guys! -
Congrats Janey! That's awesome! I'm sooo proud of you! :wow2:  Hopefully yesterdays fill and the ensuing liquid diet will help me get closer to my September goal!

Well.. I gotta defend my man Junior here.. Don't get me wrong, I think Carl has the best attitude and is just really grateful for being where he is, but I also think he is just really frustrated this year, his performance hasn't added up to last year. Probably just a sophmore slump, and some bad luck! He shouldn't have done the retaliation thing, that was wrong. I think Junior was in a no-win situation. We all know that he goes out of his way not to wreck folks and if he ever does screw up he bends over backwards apologizing (probably trying to not be lumped in to the "just like his old man" category).... Carl was loose, but had stablized, don't know if Junior could have back off more or not without wrecking them all.... Also, the booing at Bristol as explained by the folks on TV and a few folks that I know who were there was that Junior was in the truck ahead of Carl. When Junior went by... cheers, then the cheers turned to boos... I like them both, and am sure they have worked it out. After all, had it been Smoke instead of Juniot we know it would have been intentional! Wink* Wink* 3loves and Dody! Just kiddin, you know he's my number 2 man! Later Nascar Friends!

Hey guys! Sorry to hear that some of you are having problems! Drews - Hopefully the fill with flouro will help solve your problem.... After having my first fill yesterday, I can't believe that it can be done without flouro! I'm with you, maybe they are just missing your port? I hope so! Wow Myra! A flipped port! That's crazy! I hope the problem remedies itself and you don't have to go through another surgery! I'm sure it will be okay! Good Luck! Congrats 3loves and Marci on losing weight again! That's awesome! Well, I had my first fill yesterday.. they put in 1.25cc. It's pretty cool to watch the x-ray monitor and see the fluoro and water go down. At first they put in 1.5cc and decided to back up to 1.25. It's freaky to see that big ole needle hanging from your belly! I can already tell that I'm going to have to re-adjust my eating habits again.. I was getting faster, bigger bites, not chewing as well, and that's not gonna fly after the fill! Did your surgeons do your fills? My surgeon's nusre is getting/or is certified to do it now, so she did mine. I think I was like her 38th fill. The surgeon was there closely supervising...I'm sure they just need to free up some of his time from doing fills. Seems like they have a ton of Lap-Band patients! There were four of us there getting fills yesterday. It was cool because I got to talk to the others.. One had been banded a little over two years, one a little over a year and one about 8 months. They were all very nice and supportive and still happy with their decisions to get banded, and that's always nice to hear! Also, I wanted to ask you guys about mucus. Living in the south, allergies and allergens are really bad, so naturally there is lots of mucus. Has your surgeon/program discussed in depth mucus with you guys? Turns out that we produce a lot of mucus every day(2-3 quarts?)... I've been told numerous times about the importance of drinking a hot or acidic liquid before the morning meal and really every meal to help empty the mucus from the pouch. They say that fluid gathers around a restricted area, so mucus gathers near the band in your pouch... I'm sure the problem is worsened by seasonal allergies.. The ladies that I spoke with were talking about how the more restriction you have the more mucus becomes a problem. Moral of the story... if you have problems eating early in the am or throughout the day, drink your hot or acidic drinks before you try to eat solids and wash that mucus away! Have a great day everyone.. I know one thing, I'm looking forward to Labor Day weekend! Geeze, I just got back from vacation and am already dying to have an extra day off! I think I've secretly become a beach bum! Oh... also wanted to say how nice it is to come to this supportive, welcoming, no BS thread. Geeze.. I'm scared to post anywhere else these days! Thanks my Mayster friends!

3loves: Yep, under flouro.. I can eat until 9:00 AM this morning, then clear liquids until 1:00 PM, nothing after 1:00 PM, and my fill is at 3:00 PM. I'll be on clear liquids 2-3 days, full liquids 2-3 days, soft foods 2-3 days, then on to normal foods.... I'm kinda scared, but look forward to loosing more weight! Good luck on your fill Myra! Hope you get good restriction!

Hey Guys! Yep, I'm with you 3loves, Bristol was a big snooze-fest. I was glad to see Junior finish 3rd! I hope he can hang in there and make the top 10! Man, I only saw Tony on TV once yesterday... every time I looked he was in 20th or something... He would have made the race more exciting if he had been up front. They were all conservative little points-racers and I DON'T LIKE IT!! Bristol is for bumping and running and for shoves and punts, not that boring crap! Oh, well, on to Fontana! GO DALE JR! BTW .. Kasey gets prettier every time I see him... MMMM...MMMM!

Hey Everyone! I'm back from the beach! Just in time as I'm afraid Tropical Storm/Hurricane Ernesto is moving into the area. I hope he falls apart! The best thing I can say is that I didn't gain any weight on vacation! We had a really good time and I ate some food that I shouldn't have, but it was worth it! I did manage to exercise at the gym at our condo a couple of days... so I'm pretty happy with no losing any weight. I go for my very first fill tomorrow, and I gotta say I'm nervous! I am however, ready to see those scales moving in the right direction again! I've got a lot of weight to lose if I'm gonna weigh less than my brothers by Christmas! (40 lbs!) Vacation is over and its time to get serious! 3loves - Congrats on the fill, glad it went so well! How long does your liquid/limited diet last? We'll be able to compare notes again after tomorrow! Keep up the good work everyone!
-
Hey Guys! Sorry I haven't checked in lately, my work has been crazy and I'm trying to get ready to head to the beach! I have dropped a little more weight, but I definitely need my first fill. I've been working out three days a week with the exercise physiologist classes that were included in the price of the surgery. I really like it! We do about 30 minutes of cardio (tread mill, stationary recumbent bike and rowing machine), then I do all kinds of free weights and weight machines... It takes about an hour and 20 minutes, but its fun and I can tell that my body is changing! Woo Hoo! Luckily the condo that we are staying at in Destin has a full gym so I'll get to workout on vacation! I hope everyone is doing well, I have been skimming this thread from time to time and it sounds like you are all racing towards your goals! Keep up the good work! 3loves - My first fill will be August 29th, and boy do I need it! Lynda - I know what you mean, seems like the day after I postponed my original fill date, the hungar monster attacked! I'm not really eating that much more, just giving in to carb cravings! EEK! Don't worry, September 1 will be here soon enough! Keep up the great work!
-
Wow! Everyone is doing soo well! I'm so glad everyone found this thread and is posting! Drews - I'm sure everything will work out with the possible leak, that stinks! Please keep us posted! 3loves - glad to hear you survived the laminate flooring install. I've watched it be installed on TV and they make it look so easy, but I figured it would be a nightmare. I wouldn't have had the patience to stick with it! Kudos! I'm sure it looks great! Don't worry about those scales, I'm sure they will catch up! My scales are very finicky as well, and it didn't help that I had TWO Periods last month... I hope that is a temporary thing! EEEK! Alicia - I work out on Tuesday and Thursday at CHI at Memorial downtown (around 5 pm), and on Saturdays at the CHI Northpark (around 9 am). Maybe we will cross paths! I'm gonna try to attend the weekly support group meetings on Wednesdays at lunch the next couple of weeks. After that, I'm off to the beach for a week! WOOO HOO! Can't wait! The weekly meetings have Lap Band and Gastric Bypass people in them, its pretty good. I'm kinda scared to get my first fill, how was it? How many cc's did they put in? Do you know what size band you have? Lynda - Congrats on getting rid of those clothes! I gotta do the same... I'm tired of people complaining that my pants look like they are about to fall off or calling me "baggy britches", but I don't want to spend a lot of money on "transition clothes" either.... The ones that I recently bought are baggy too.. It's hard to get used to not looking for the largest size on the rack, you know? Anyway, you go girl! Keep it up May Bandsters! WE ROCK!
-
Hi everyone! Hope all is well! I'm slowly dropping the pounds, but I think I'm definitely gonna have to get my first fill soon! Diane - You are in my thoughts and prayers! I know everything will work out okay! Hey Alicia! I just realized that we have the same surgeon! Have we met? Do you attend the weekly support group meeting or the monthly? Where do you work out? I just started working out at the Chattanooga Heart Institute on Thursday(long story, my release to exercise got lost, then Dr. Rose went on vacation)... I haven't had my first fill yet.. supposed to be this month, but I realized after I made the appointment that I will be at the beach that week!!! We need to get together! I was banded a couple of weeks after you. I hope you are doing well! Keep up the good work everyone!

Did your insurance policy state that it does not cover or excludes surgery for weight loss?

starting my 2nd week with the band
kim2bhealthy replied to imagine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Imagine - it will definitely be worth it! Your stomach is healing and your band is getting good and settled in for the long ride to skinnyville! Those liquids are helping to make sure that your stomach and band have some time for good scar tissue forming. The scar tissue is going to help hold the band in place.. I know it can be difficult, but you'll soon move on to the mushies and you will feell great! Hang in there, you can do it! -
WOOOHOOO! Way to go Brenda! I'm soo happy for you! Glad you stopped in to update us! Please keep us posted on your progress and keep it going girl!

Hey Neenagh! I think lots of people go through the "last supper" or "last meal at my favorite restaurant" thing, I know that I did. Just try not to over do it too much! The good news is that its not your "last supper" or "last meal at my favorite restaurant". After a little time, you'll be able to go back to those places that you love and eat most of the things you love! You'll just be taking home lots of doggie bags (which by the way, my doggies are ecstatic about) or you'll get to share meals with family and friends and cut your food costs way down. It's awesome! I know that it seems like forever before you will be able to "eat normally" again, but it goes by quickly and the weight loss that you experience is a good motivator! I also had to do a two week liquid pre-diet, and well, it sucked. But follow the instructions that your surgeon gave you and you will be satisfied. I lost 12 pounds in two weeks and my liver was in great shape for surgery! Good luck to you!

Hey everyone! Just checking in! Merry Christmas in July!! Here are my numbers! J 271.5 / C 269 / G 220 (-2.5 this week) Have a good week everyone!
-
Janey - I think you need more calories as well.. I don't really know how the malabsorption thing works with RNY patients, but I know that 500-750 calories is not enough. Up your calories and see if the scales start moving. Good Luck! 3loves - Thanks so much! Man, I gotta tell ya, that crap that I ate on my birthday was good! I just can't do that every day or even once a week for that matter. I actually feel better when I make good choices, both physically and mentally... Guess all those nutritionists know what they are talking about after all! Linda - Hey!! We seem to be losing at about the same pace. I always like to check my stats with yours as a gauge to how I'm doing since we always seem to be the same weight! I'll have to check out sparkpeople.com... I use fitday, but it can be a bit of a pain! Keep up the good work! Marz88 - Yep, that fluctuation thing can be very discouraging, but don't let it get ya down! I'm sure you will lose again this week! Have fun on your vacation, and don't take a scale with you... I say this because I'm going to the beach next month and thought about taking my scales with me... Nah.. I'm gonna take a vacation from them too! Congrats on the self control and exercise. You can do it!
-
I can totally relate to the fluctuating weight thing, I swear last week my weight fluctuated a good five pounds! I really try not to weigh but on Saturday, but sometimes I'll hop on the scales mid-week and freak out at the number! But usually by Saturday I'lll see a loss. Linda - I can definitely relate to the eating on the weekends thing. Its really a lot harder to track food/calorie intake when in social situations... Last night we went out for my birthday and I had most of a watermelon margarita, a few chili-cheese fries with ranch dressing and some FRIED chicken tenders, and a tiny piece of strawberry patch birthday cake (don't ask.. cream, cake, berries, lots of sugar, very bad!). Those were all poor choices, but today is a new day and I'm making good choices. I have increased my Water intake to 85-100 ounces a day and that seems to make a difference with weight loss. Are you drinking lots of water? It's a struggle for me because I've never cared for water, but I can tell when I don't get enough in. Freebekie - Please don't be hard on yourself.. The band may limit food intake AMOUNTS. But it is still a struggle to choose the RIGHT foods, and we just have to do the best we can. I reached 317lbs because I love breads, pastas, potatos and anything filled with sugar. I haven't completley eliminated those things and I don't plan on doing so because the minute I feel like I'm being deprived of something, that one thing is all I can focus on and then I go over the edge. Having a 1/4 of a roll or a couple of bites of cake is far from where I used to be, so that is still a victory! I know what you mean about being impatient to lose the weight, and yes it can be frustrating to be only eating 1100-1200 calories and not lose for a few days or a week, but the weight will come off! Just try to get in the Protein, the water and the exercise and IT HAS TO COME OFF! Best of luck everyone! Keep Working it!
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! Congrats on getting that scale moving again freebekie! Great job! Keep it up!

That was a long ending Time to Love me! Glad you had a good time! Man, the last two weeks have been miserable for my man Dale Jr.! He has slid from 3rd to 11th in the points! He wasn't very happy with Dave Blaney! I don't know what Dave was thinking, but he just got on the bad side of the entire nation of Junior fans! Oh well, maybe Junior's luck of the last couple of weeks will change during this off-week and he'll rebound at Indy. Anybody going to the race? What did you guys think about the whole Smoke-Bowyer-Carl Edwards thing? I've never really seen Edwards that ticked, he had some interesting post race commetns about Smoke.... "Man, I've got to choose my words carefully," said Edwards, not easily angered. "Let me just say this: If it weren't for respect of the sport and the people watching and his team and everything, he'd be out there bleeding right now. "That's so frustrating. How can a person make it this far in life being that much of a jerk?" "He turned into Clint and took both him and I out and probably made it just about impossible for us to make the Chase," Edwards said. "And then when I pull up beside him and wave my hand like, 'What was that about?' he gives me the finger. "I mean, what a jerk. I don't even know what to say. It's amazing to me that someone can be that special." Okay.. I'm a Tony fan, but I think he's getting a little out of control here lately, some of his crazy behavior from years past is raring its head again... maybe he needs to get a re-fresher course on the anger management stuff. He cracks me up though, he just doen't give a crap! I did feel really bad for Carl becaue he seems like one of those genuine guys that is just thrilled to be where he is and is very appreciative to be there. I know he retailiated and probably shouldn't have, but I can't blame him. GO DALE JR, GO SMOKE, GO CARL!!! Beat those Hendricks boys and the Busch brothers!
-
Way to go everyone! Congrats on the BMI ousooner! That's awesome! Well, I made my goal of 10 lbs lost by my birthday! Today is the big day ( I turned 35!) and I'm down 11 pounds since setting that goal at the end of June! I'm half way to my September goal too! Wahoo! I haven't really found anything that I can't eat... I have had two really small episodes with really dry chicken, but it was just a few seconds of pain and it went away. I'm going out tonight for my birthday, and can't wait! Have a great week everyone!
-
I Love Christmas too!!!!! Count me in on the Christmas goals... I bet my older brothers that I would weigh less than them by Christmas (I think I weighed more than them from birth). Anyway.. they weigh around 225.. My goal is to weigh 220! I gotta come up with something really good for them to buy me when I WIN the bet! Kim2bhealthy - C 271.5/ G 220
-
Thanks Christy! I do use Fitday, but I never really payed attention to the burned calories graphics... I'll have to check mine out!
-
Hey Everyone! Sounds like everyone is doing great! I decided to go ahead and postpone my first fill (it was scheduled for tomorrow) for a few weeks. My 35th birthday is a week from tomorrow and I want to be able to go out and enjoy it without having to worry about being too restricted. I seem to be able to eat good qunatities and am still losing 1.5 - 2 pounds a week. I think I'm going to try eating a few more calories, maybe 1200 -1400 seems like I lose more if I stay in that range. I'm burning about 300 a day ( swimming laps and biking and water aerobics)... I seem to be getting at least 64 ounces of water in a day between meals., but would like to increase it more. How is the not drinking with meals going? I seem to be getting used to it. If I'm eating something spicy or really salty, I will sip just a tiny bit, but that's it. Hope - congrats on onderland! Dawn - way to go on the smaller clothing sizes! Isn't that awesome?! Water aerobicizers - I love water aerobics too! I currently swim and do deep water aerobics at home, but when the winter time comes, I'll be heading to the local YMCA! My back and knees feel sooo much better since I've been spending so much time in the pool! OOOH! I forgot to tell you guys! I was a the races (local dirt track) with my family on Saturday night, and well, the pants that I was wearing needed to be tossed into the yard sale/charity pile because they were waay to big. It was soo hot Saturday, and as the night wore on those pants got bigger and bigger. I almost lost them once.. so I thought, I gotta change! I didn't have any spare pants, but I looked in our truck and my mom had some size 18 shorts in there... I tried them on and they fit! Granted they had an elastic waist, but they fit! WAHOOOO! Can't weight to get to a size 18! Also, I saw people who I hadn't seen in the last couple of months and they were all coming up to me and telling me how they could tell I have lost weight. How exciting! Yipppee!!! I love this band thing! 3loves - Are you having a first fill any time soon? I really struggled with my decision to post-pone, but I really wanted to give myself a couple of more weeks to see how I do without it. I'm waiting to hear back from my surgeon's office to see when I can get it re-scheduled for.. Hope you are doing well!
