40 something sleevers?
ThatGirl2121 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 46 and was sleeved 5/21. Have lost almost 60 pounds today. Definitely wish I had done it in my youth. I still have great years ahead, but sometimes feel like my youth was wasted. So many years of limiting myself due to my weight. -
I had my GS in late May and noticed a significant loss in late July. It has gotten really bad, but luckily I had a lot of hair to begin with. I’ve been told to add biotin to your supplement routine; not sure there is much we can do, but I’m very interested in replies as well.

Sleep apnea-cpap at the hospital
ThatGirl2121 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just reread your post. While you are under during surgery you will have a breathing tube in place that keeps your airway open making the cPap unnecessary until afterwards, but always ask for confirmation . -
Sleep apnea-cpap at the hospital
ThatGirl2121 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have sleep apnea, but do not use a CPap. They kept my head elevated in the hospital. They should go over it with you in your preOp appointments. My assumption is that if u use one, you will be expected to bring it, but I would ask. -
Thanks silly kitty. It always astounds me how different the medical advice can be surgeon to surgeon. Mine advises that taking NSAIDs could be life threatening. Wish these doctors could come to a consensus for consistency sake.

Where Is Everyone From?

Northern California. A little surf town called Santa Cruz. 🌴 -
I felt the same way early on and wanted to die from the nausea. Found out it was all related to my pain killers which when I discontinued them I found out I didn’t have any pain. Was taking them because I was afraid of having pain. It was a lot easier after that.

*may take

NO, Never take NSAIDs which include Ibuprofen ever again for the rest of your life. They can cause ulcerations after Gastric sleeve. You my take Tylenol safely For pain.

How are the May sleevers doing?
ThatGirl2121 replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on may 21st. HW 262 preop 249 CW 221 -
Congratulations! Just remember that everyone has buyers remorse in the first few days and even weeks. It will get better, I promise. Just look forward to a few weeks down the road when you’re feeling better and dropping weight. There are good times coming, but you have to tough it out until then. You’re going to do great, you made the right choice and this will change your life for the better!

Did you like the BariMelts Multivitamin I’m smooth Fruit Flavor? I love mine. -
Can I cut (instead of chew) my chewable multivitamin?
ThatGirl2121 replied to AngelaZ's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The Bariatric Advantage ones are horrible. Try BariMelts Multivitamin, Dissolvable Bariatric Vitamins, In smooth Fruit Flavor. -
Hands down BariMelts Multivitamin, Dissolvable Bariatric Vitamins in smooth Fruit Flavor are the Very Best tasting. I’ve tried several others and they all made me gag. I look forward to my vitamins now instead of a punishment. Amazon has them for $20 for a month’s supply. I haven’t tasted the calcium w/vitamin C by the same company, but I’ve heard good things.

Has anyone tried puréed earlier than two weeks?
ThatGirl2121 replied to melrami1981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
olive oil (as needed to coat onion and prevent sticking) 1/2 medium onion, medium dice Kosher salt 2 medium carrots, chopped 1 celery stalk, medium dice 1 cup additional vegetables of your choice (I used asparagus & mushrooms: medium dice 5-6 cups (1 quart) homemade or store bought chicken or vegetable broth (Swanson cooking stock is your best bet for store bought). Heat a stock pot with a few drizzles of olive oil and cook onion until translucent (about 5 mins). Add carrots and celery (another 5 mins). Add remaining veggies and cook until soft (the tip of a knife should easily pierce the carrots.) Add several pinches of salt to veggie mixture. Add broth and bring to a boil. Then simmer for approximately 25 mins. Unfortunately we can’t consume tomatoes, black pepper, garlic or wine, but this is a flavorful substitute. You will need to blend the final product. It should be completely smooth with zero particles. Add additional stock to thin if needed (the PP will thicken the end result). I add unflavored Unjury protein powder directly to my serving dish to ensure I get it all in. I froze the left overs in ice cube trays and then popped them into freezer bags to reheat for later. Hope you can tolerate this early on. I was also sleeved on 5/21, but it might be a bit early for some. -

I was sleeved on 5/21/18 and I’m allowed to purée homemade vegetable Soup (w/unflavored PP) which is the first thing I’ve found completely delicious. Being a trained chef, the processed foods taste horrendous to me so homemade is key to be satisfied. I also made a Protien shake with Soy milk, Peanut Butter, teaspoon unsweetened cocoa power, unflavored PP and a couple slices of frozen banana (very high protein). I’m amazed by the comments on these boards have such vastly different nutritional guidelines. Bizarre how info differs from one surgeon to another. -

Your Hospital Experience
ThatGirl2121 replied to NewLifeAhead66's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 5/21 and also had barely any pain, but debilitating nausea. I was throwing up blood at one point from the violent retching. Everyone including my surgeon had no sympathy and acted as if I was being a baby. I heard remarks like “I’m guessing you’ve never had surgery before” (I’ve actually had two non related abdominal surgeries with zero pain meds) or “I heard you’re feeling sorry for yourself” from my surgeon! Before the surgery, I was frequently nauseous, so I can handle being nauseous, but this was 10/10; I felt like dying. Found out they had given me a narcotic that I’m allergic to which when taken causes severe motion sickness (could not even turn my head without retching. Once all pain meds were discontinued the nausea went completely away within 24 hours.
