How exactly does bypass change your fat metabolism?
Wanda247 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for sharing that and yes it didn't go into a lot of detail but it's true about diabetes and high blood pressure in a lot of cases, I am off of meds since surgery...It does put the diabetes in remission, I know that I will always be diabetic but with the help of my sleeve and me watching my food intake it can stay in good control...very happy about that. -
How exactly does bypass change your fat metabolism?
Wanda247 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That's a great question...Me personally...do not believe that it changes after surgery or I've read on this forum that some say the surgery resets the metabolism?? My Doctor nor any one from his team never mentioned that to me...my metabolism was shot before surgery because of a thyroid condition and after surgery I am still on thyroid meds and I still lose weight slow and have to work my butt off to lose every ounce. Don't get me wrong, I am very pleased with my weight loss results and feel that I am losing at a steady rate for me. I did not go into this surgery thinking that when I wake up from surgery a miracle was going to happen, I knew it would be a tool to help me not eat such large portions any longer and it really is doing it's part and I am doing the rest by exercising and making healthy food choices, low fat, low carb. etc...I know my body, and this is the plan that works for me. I would love to read some statistics that states that these type of surgeries changes our metabolism because it sure did not change mine, therefore I think I should be entitled to a partial refund 😉 ✌️Just my thought @Kimmie K -
So glad that you are doing well and happy with your progress...Congratulations! That cauliflower pizza sounds good, I'll have to try it. 😉

Hi KatieNthings, I’m so sorry that you are feeling sad, I’m pretty new as well, I had surgery just a little under 3 months and it’s kinda normal to feel emotional and sad early on, you just had major surgery and a lifestyle change so of course emotions will be all over the place which seems to be pretty normal right after surgery but it really does get so much better, once you start losing weight and noticing all of the positive changes physically and mentally you will start to feel that what you are going through now was so worth it. Unfortunately we cannot change what society thinks, confidence and happiness is up to us. People will always disappoint us but once you start feeling good about yourself and build up confidence, your whole life will start to change for the better you will exude in happiness and confidence. Once you’re comfortable with you others will be also. You can’t change other people you can only change yourself. Hang in there honey it only gets better from here. Chin up, you got this! And this whole community is here for you 😉

2 Days Post Op and Semi Regret My Decision
Wanda247 replied to micci_micci33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a wuss to when it comes to pain so I understand, but trust me time will go by so fast and you will start feeling amazing....just keep telling yourself, " I did this for a good reason and this pain is just temporary" You got this @micci_micci33 😉 BTW: You are not stupid at all, it's ok to express your feelings, that's what this forum is for...we have been there so we all understand ((Hugs)) -
What an inspiring journey!! You look great! Hard work definitely pays off. So motivating for us newbies!! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I was eating puree and soft foods 10 days post op per my team, Each team is different. My booklet from my team said 2 weeks liquids, 1 week puree 1 week soft and after that anything that I could tolerate and they stressed chew, chew, chew. They only mentioned to stay away from beef and pork chops for 6 months because it's hard to digest, but I've read on here lots of people eat those before 6 months...I did try beef and it did not sit well with me so I will wait like suggested.

Happy Friday Everyone. Make it a great weekend 🤩

I'm like @FluffyChix I eat at regular pace too now but small bites, but I do chew meats very well. I have a small thermos that I can put food in to keep it warm, maybe try that.

Why isn't anyone talking about having no support system? Because I sure dont
Wanda247 replied to Toya6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Toya6 Honey sometimes you have to make your own sunshine and do not let anyone get in the way of that. I know quite a few people who have had either gastric bypass or some other type of weight loss surgery but they either gained all of the weight back or working on gaining it back so I do not want to go to them for support. Support is so important and like you, I talked to total strangers from this very site that answered my questions, cheered me on, encouraged me you name it...I am so thankful that my nutritionist told me about this app because I had so many questions...I kept reading the questions that were posted and answers that were given. It has helped me so much! so you are not alone, there are folks here willing and ready to be a support system for you. Yes I had family to come visit me in the hospital, pick me up and listened to me but they really don't understand the emotional aspect of my journey like people that have been and going through this process. So I said all that to say, if you want this can be your support system...each person are at different levels and stages here but you will always get a response back from someone. You made one of the best decisions to have WLS so if you have to get support from total strangers so be it, they won't seem like strangers after a while. I wish you nothing but the best on your journey. We are here for you 😉 PS: Also you can check with your Team to see if they have a support group. My group does have a support group that meets once a month, I went but wasn't impressed. -
Congratulations! I wish you all the best 😉

I’ve been watching the show for a long time as well and I really didn’t always believe everything was real, but after joining this app/forum I have read so many of the same traits...the struggle is just real...my heart goes out to most of them, some on the show are just stubborn, set in their ways and don’t want help. Now the Asanti family wow...serious issues beyond. Smh I love Dr. Naw 👏🏽 tough love Btw: it was funny because when I went to my first Bariatric appt with my team and they had the same scale with the handles, it reminded me of Dr. Naws office lol

Approved - Surgery Day Scheduled
Wanda247 replied to sisotowbelle84's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you...you didn't give up and that shows determination. People will always have some kind of opinion as to what you should and should not do, it's human nature. But ONLY YOU know the struggles that you have been through with the up and down weight loss...You want it to stay off, so go for it girl and don't let no one rob you of your joy ✌️ -
Post OP- Difficulties getting in liquids
Wanda247 replied to SleevedBelle25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's hard in the beginning to get 64 oz of liquids down, but just keep at it and drink as much as you can and you will eventually get there. You can have sugar free popsicles, they count as liquid and the tropical flavor is really good, I still eat them. Congratulations on your surgery 😃 -
It varies by the different insurance companies, your team etc. Try not to worry to much about it, it will be approved. If it takes longer that doesn't mean that you won't be approved. Like the other poster said, these surgeons have done so many procedures and most of the staff knows exactly what they need to submit to get you approved. BTW: I called my insurance company myself about 4 days after it was submitted by my team and it was approved and the nurse called me later that day to schedule my surgery. You will be fine and congrats 😉

One Year Out: Support, Motivation, and Tough Love
Wanda247 replied to hap314ness's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try not to beat yourself up to bad...YOU lost 100 lbs and you worked your but off for it too, so you are to be commended. You got off track a little which is life, none of us are perfect. Work on getting your mindset back into the journey that you started and you will start to work hard again, it's a lifestyle change, this is something we will have to work at for the rest of our lives so we will have times that we get off track but the most important thing is to remember why you had surgery, start over and get focused. We are rooting for you, you got this!! ((Hugs))
