I was just banded on Tuesday 8/8 and I'm already down 11.5 lbs! I can't believe it - only approx 140 more to go! My question is around other people's experiences immediately following banding. So far I've been keeping to the high Protein, low carb, low fat diet - and I haven't been overly hungry. If I get hungry I have a lowfat/low-sugar snack and I'm fine. But I seem to be able to tolerate things I almost expect to make me get sick - yesterday I had to stop off at a diner with a friend for Breakfast and I planned to have runny oatmeal or some other gruel - but I weakened and had sausage patties and homefries. Yes - I know I was bad but I was careful to cut them up really small and mush them with my fork and they went down so easily and so smoothly - and tasted d*mn good. I was fine during and afterwards - and the only effect I felt was that I was full after 2 small patties and a couple of forks of homefries. It was rough leaving the rest of the food on the plate, but I did it and was fine. I'm afraid that I won't be as "restricted" as I would like. I had some really bad eating habits before and I was hoping the band would help rein me in. How have others felt for the first week or so after being banded? How about after their first fill? Is this usual? Thanks

Are there any New York Bander's Here?
reggers replied to Leecelove70's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a bit late to this, but you mentioned approx 10 mtgs in the NY area, would you know of anyplace they are listed. I can't attend the Wednesday night meetings but would like to find another one in Manhattan (or Bklyn/Queens near Manhattan bound subway). Thanks -
What brands of Protein powders do people the best in terms of taste? Also, what 'unflavored' protein supplement would you reccommend? Thanks

Thanks. I was only on a liquid diet for 1 day. I was told to progress to mushies - anything the consistency of applesauce - from the 2nd day afterwards for the next 4 weeks. I always find it interesting the different types of diets and the differeing lengths that people are placed on them.

It hasn't been so bad...the first few days were the worst. I can do 6 or 7 of the 8oz Optifast drinks. Like I said earlier, when I'm home I blend with Ice and a small amount of skim milk and I get alot more volume. Also, I've told I can have as much 0-calorie soft drinks as I like and occasional coffee with skim milk so it hasn't been so bad. I think the best way to do it is to ease into it. Gradually cut out solid foods working up to the full liquid stage. I just phased it in and it didn't seem that bad. I just have to last 4 more days (Fri-Mon) (I have to confess - I would love a cheeseburger and fries right now)

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm on Optifast and am making smoothie/shakes with it. Also my nutritionist suggested that since I can still have coffee with skim milk and artificial sweetner that I mix the coffee, skim milk, Equal, ice and either a vanilla or chocolate OptiFast - and then blend them. It's almost like a Starbucks Frappucinno! (almost) Gotta come up with more exciting and interesting ways to get through the pre-op liquid phase. (5 more days)

OK - I'll bite - what is a Malawi burger?

I'm on it now....I'm supposed to be on Optifast. It's not so bad taste-wise, but it's only an 8oz drink 6x a day!!!!! (I'm so hungry I can eat a small child!) Tonight I may mix an OptiFast with skim milk and ice and make a shake!!!! Wow - I'm living now! My dietician also mentioned that I can substitute a "Lipton Cup-Of-Soup" for an Optifast but to be careful as they are very high in sodium. I have one week to go before surgery!

I'm about to be banded next week and am concerned that I won't be able to exercise without worrying about the band (slippage, etc). From what I've read here that shouldn't be a problem, but just wanted to see what other people's experiences were. reggers:omg:

Grits? I would have thought that would be one of the best and easiest foods to deal with during the "mushy" post-surgery. What about oatmeal? (I'm about to be banded next week - and in my true style and am already obsessing over what I'm going to eat).

I'm thinking of having the band done at the Toronto Laparoscopic Band Centre. I have the initial consulatation in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any feedback or additional info on this facility and its doctors? Thanks :help:
