  1. Is there anyone out there who experienced significant hair loss, who can tell me how long the shedding lasted, how long it took for the new growth to begin, and how long it took for their hair to return to normal? Pleeeeeeaaase? Thanks in advance!
  2. Thank you, @Neversaynever. Our surgery dates are very close together. I hope my hair loss slows down soon, too!
  3. Thank you,@redhead_che and @S@ssen@ch. It's good to hear from people who have been through it. Fingers crossed.
  4. @Rexcom: I started bariatric multivitamins immediately after surgery. My protein goal up until week 10 was 75 mg/day, and I was diligent at meeting that goal daily. At week 10 my protein goal was decreased to 60, and that's where I think things went wrong for me. I started losing hair right around that time, but didn't put 2 and 2 together because I was meeting the prescribed goal. I had my second post-op visit about 2 weeks ago, and the nurse practitioner said I should have stayed at 75 mg. This got me pretty upset because I had been following the instructions in my patient handbook to the letter, and the handbook clearly said to decrease to 60 mg at week 10. Maybe my hair would have been ok if I had stayed at the higher level all along, and maybe my weight loss would have been more consistent (I alternate between long stalls and big drops instead of steady progress). I feel like I wasted 2 months. I increased back to 75 mg and started taking biotin at that point, but no improvement yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Thank you. I've been taking Biotin but I've never heard of caffeine hair products. I'll give it a try.

How are the May sleevers doing?

I am down 56 pounds since my pre-op visit...I'm feeling a little underwhelmed, but I know I wouldn't have done as well in 5 months on my own. The weight loss is not steady at all: I have big drops and then looooong stalls. Still struggling with significant hair loss. Anyone else?
  7. I started noticing increased hair loss at 2.5 months post-op. I'm almost 4.5 months out now, and I'm still losing handfuls every day. My hair is looking terrible. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to stop falling out? And how long it takes to start growing back? I'm very careful about my protein and vitamins, so I'm really surprised it's been this bad. I'm open to any and all advice. Thanks!

When will the hair loss stop?

OK, getting back to my original question,..😉 Is there anyone out there who has had significant hair loss and can tell me how long it lasted, how long it took for new growth to begin, and how you dealt with the new growth/uneven lengths? Thanks!

    Hungry

Me too. I feel much less restriction than I expected, and I'm hungry all the time. I have definitely not had the no ghrelin=no hunger experience. You're not alone.

    Hunger after sleeve...

I did NOT have the experience of "no ghrelin=no hunger." I have been hungry all along. But it did get better when I began eating solid foods.
  14. 1. What made you choose the Sleeve over the Lap Band? High rate of complications and failure with lap band. 2. Have you had Hair loss with the Sleeve? Yes. It is not falling out in clumps or anything like that, but I definitely notice more "shedding" in the shower and on my comb, and some loose hairs on my shoulders throughout the day. Nobody else has noticed; not even my hairdresser. 3. What can you absolutely NOT eat now with the Sleeve? Any intolerances or aversions I had prior to surgery got worse. And I have trouble with foods that are dry or hard. 4. At what point did you know you made the right decision with the Sleeve surgery? About a month out. The first month was very hard. 5. What as been the best tool you've used in keeping your weight loss progressing? I write down every single thing I put in my mouth, using My Fitness Pal to track calories and protein. And I exercise an average of 5 days per week. These are all good questions. Good luck to you!
  15. I am 14 weeks out. I have not had French fries, onion rings, egg rolls, or any Indian food yet, but I did have a piece of fried chicken yesterday and did fine. I have had a small slice of pizza a couple of times. I have done OK with Thai and Mexican spices. I find that any food intolerances or aversions I had in the past are worse now. When I eat something I really like, I am not having a problem with craving more like I did in the past. On the other hand, I am still avoiding most foods that I had trouble stopping in the past. Best advice is to stay in touch with your doc or nutritionist and try small bites of things at first. Good luck!

How are the May sleevers doing?

I am down 46 pounds since May 15, and feeling good. Tolerating exercise a lot better than before, able to walk around a lot more. My sleep quality is better, so I am getting by on less, and not needing to nap on weekends. Lots of improvements; hope they will continue.

When did you start losing hair?

I am definitely "shedding" more, but it's not coming out in clumps or anything like that. I asked my hairdresser last week and she said she didn't notice any difference at all.

    None of Your Business!

I only told immediate family. At work I just said I was having surgery, and nobody asked anything more. I have had a lot of health problems and other surgeries, so it wasn't a big shock to anyone. I did not go out with friends until Stage 4, so there was never any reason for anyone to ask questions about what I was eating. I eat half (or less) of everything I'm served, and I don't drink anything that has calories. My friends have seen me do the same on weight loss plans before, so they haven't bothered to comment or ask. They don't seem to notice the "protein first" strategy or the fact that I am not drinking any liquids while eating. When people comment on my weight, I just say, "Thanks, I'm working hard." And that's true! On a few occasions people have wanted more information. To them I said, "You know, I've gone up and down so many times, I am trying to just be healthy and not worry about what the scale says either way." That seems to work. Good luck to you!

    Was it worth it?

I struggled for the first several weeks, and I am still having some adjustment issues, but it was definitely worth it. This past weekend I went on a college visit with my son. We spent hours touring, walking up and down hills and stairs in hot, humid weather. There is no way I could have done this at my starting weight. I would have waited on the ground floor of the dorms and not climbed the stairs to see the rooms. I may have even sat out the entire tour after just listening to the information sessions. I stopped taking blood pressure medication after just a few weeks, and now I have a normal blood pressure and resting heart rate. My arthritis pain is much better. I started exercising a little more than a month post-op and I've already made a lot of gains. Yes, it was definitely worth it.

    May Sleevers progress

I was sleeved May 15 and I just passed the 40 pound mark. I'm exercising 5 days per week and closely counting calories and protein. No more blood pressure medication. I am constantly hungry, though, and that has been hard.

    In absolute shock

Sorry to hear this, but glad you're okay and hope it goes smoothly from here on.
  22. I am finding myself feeling bad about the clothes I can't or won't be able to wear anymore... I feel kind of sad about a few pieces I really like, and I'm thinking about how much all the clothes cost when I bought them and how much it will cost to replace them. I know this is a good problem to have, but I also know these weird thoughts contributed to my regaining weight I lost in the past. Has anyone else experienced this? How have you dealt with it? Thanks for any advice!
  23. I was off 3 weeks. That was the amount of time my surgeon recommended. I didn't think I'd need it, but I really did. On the Liquids and Purees stages, I was extremely hungry and had a lot of "tummy trouble." It would have been very difficult to work in that condition. At the 3rd week I transitioned to soft foods, and that worked well. Good luck to you.

How are the May sleevers doing?

May 15 sleever here. I'm down 35 pounds. Weight loss has not been steady; I tend to stall for a few days, then lose a couple of pounds overnight. Sure I wish I were losing faster, but my blood pressure and resting heart rate have improved dramatically, and it's easier to exercise, so I'm happy with that. My lactose intolerance has been worse than ever, so it's sometimes a challenge to meet the protein goals without dairy. And I've had more hunger than I expected. But overall I think I'm doing pretty well.
