Cool! You nervous? Super nervous

I’m having mine that day too!

I have a liquid diet the day before surgery and my date is July 3rd!

Hey mine is July 3rd too!

Its like when they tell pregnant people not to watch videos of other women in labor. No need to promote the anxiety about the portion of your journey that you can't control. Focus on the outcome, and what you can do to prepare for the lifestyle change. This is a big deal, but it is going to be worth it. YOU deserve to be the best version of yourself and that's all we need to focus on. You will be glad you did. Lol I had to watch because I’m a nursing student and it’s a required clinical. 😂 or else I wouldn’t have been watching!

Thank you. I completely trust my surgeon as well I just think my anxiety level went up when I was on my OR rotation for school and got to actually watch a surgeon do this procedure. Nothing bad happened but observing that freaked me out a bit.

Mine too!!! It's coming so fast too.....My first appointment was less than a month ago. At least it's so fast that I don't have time to freak out too badly. But, still a little worried about the unknown....... I’ve just been trying my best to focus on what to take with me to the hospital and not on what can go wrong. I had to do 7 months of pre-op visits so it’s given me more than enough time to think about everything. I’ve almost canceled twice!

I’m absolutely freaking out about it! It’s my first surgery ever.

July 3rd!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
mckenzie replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One week and 4 days away! -
So I haven’t told many people about me going through the process to have WLS my surgery is scheduled for July 3rd and I just don’t particularly care to hear about others opinions on it at this point in my journey. Well today I find out my grandmother is going around telling EVERYONE who will listen about me having the surgery. I. AM. PISSED. I didn’t even tell her about it so someone else apparently needed to share information about it as well. Now all I’ve heard all day is how I don’t need the surgery and how I don’t even look “big” enough to have the surgery. I’m 5’3 and weighed 250 lbs at the beginning of my pre-surgery weight loss. That is medically considered obese. I’m so frustrated right now and I just don’t know what to do about this situation. I can’t necessarily tell my grandmother to STFU lol. I tried telling her I wasn’t okay with her sharing that information but it didn’t phase her at all. I’m seriously going to lose it if I hear one more time that I’m being stupid or making a huge mistake. I don’t need the negativity when I’m this close to surgery.
-
Because she also has some issues that contribute to the problem that aren’t her fault. I’m mainly just frustrated.
-
She is also obese but she also has some other issues that make it worse because she almost can’t control it.
-
Ok so I’ll start with a little bit of info about me. I’m 21 years old and currently weigh 225 lbs. My highest weight was 250 lbs. I am in nursing school and currently have my surgery scheduled for July 3rd. I will be having the gastric bypass. I.AM.FREAKING.OUT! I have NEVER had surgery before and I’m scared to death of how it’s going to be after surgery. I’ve even almost called to cancel my surgery altogether a couple of times because I was having a panic attack about it. The issue is I’m worried about pain and how this will affect my health as I age with me only being 21. I’ve went through hundreds of YouTube videos of people talking about their process and it has me worried. I also recently found out my surgeon now has his patients keep their drain tube in for TWO WEEKS! What the actual heck and why!? I feel like that is just asking for an infection to happen. I live in a small town and only know people who have had the sleeve and I’m just really needing insight on bypass surgery experiences. Anything at this point would be helpful information. I know the doctors prepared me for the surgery and they’ve answered my questions in the 7 months I’ve been doing my pre-op stuff but I need first hand experience. Thank you all in advance and I can’t wait to see what you have to say!
-
Lol thank you for that advice! The clinicals I’m starting will mostly be observation ones due to them being ER and ICU rotations. I don’t think they’ll be anything too strenuous and I think if I tell them I had the surgery they will work with me because they have worked with girls who were 7-8 months pregnant during this rotation period. It’d be nice if I felt like the hulk after lol but I’m not sure if that’ll be the case.
-
Thank you both so much! I think it’s mostly fear of the unknown. I also am pretty worried about getting a staph infection after surgery due to me being a carrier and constantly getting it when I was younger and occasionally even now. In my schooling right now we are actually covering care of the surgical patient (ironic) lol and I feel like it’s helped me some to see they wrote an entire 30 page chapter about how I feel and that it’s normal. I only know two girls from my home town that had bariatric surgery and they both had the sleeve. One has a lot of excess skin the other has none at all. My mom and dad both have had the sleeve. Originally that’s what I wanted but my Dr. said I would do much better with the bypass. Hopefully everything goes smoothly because I only will have 4 1/2 weeks to recover before I start school again and get into my busy clinical rotation. I’m excited but also a complete nervous wreck!

Make sure to take photos of yourself in a door frame or use some other way to measure! My mom had this issue and I encouraged her to take photos and we realized even though her weight was stalled she was losing inches! It really helped her to see she was still making progress even if it wasn’t in pounds.

I am having mine done in Oklahoma the total cost is 25,000$ and that’s not even including the pre-op diet, exercise, psych, and nurse practitioner visits. Insurance will pay 20,000$ of my surgery but we have to cover the other 5,000$ plus a pre-op care package that contains everything for right before the surgery and after.

I am having mine on July 3rd!
