    Food Before and After Photos

I’m ready to contribute! Almost. I’m in the soft food stage (surgery September 17th). I was going to take a b/a pic of my tuna fish, but then I found a bone in it, so obviously I can’t eat that now. (I feel bad about not being able to eat it, I really do). Thanks for the thread! Looking at all the lovely meals has really helped me during this early stage!

    Grossed out by everything!!

Oh my gosh, I didn’t know this was a thing! I’m like 16 days out and I’m sick to death of everything. Nothing tastes good. Nothing even tastes tolerable. I literally want to lay in my bed and never eat again.
  4. Me! My highest weight was 323lbs, but when I started the Bariatric program with my insurance I was 306. Weight the day of surgery was 285, and today, 2 weeks out, weight was 268. I can’t wait to reach onederland. I’m really hoping I’ll get there before my birthday in March. That would be amazing 🤩 Happy to meet you ladies!!

    September Surgeries!

My gastric bypass was on 9/17! I’m officially 2 weeks out and down 17 lbs from my surgical weight. I’m psyched I found this thread- I feel like there are more people that get the sleeve than get the bypass. I’ve suffered from acid reflux since childhood, so when they asked which surgery I was interested in, it seemed to me like a 2 birds, 1 stone thing, you know? How is everyone doing?

    Foamies are the WORST

Thanks. I do definitely plan on calling them. I have been sticking to liquids today (mostly out of fear). I also went and bought a smaller stool softener. Last night I also tried to take 4 pills within about 5 minutes of each other. I realize now that without any stomach acid, that’s probably a losing bet. I’m just having a lot of trouble right now. Honestly, I thought I’d be more healed and capable. I still get dizzy when I stand and trying to get all my liquids, pills, supplements and foods in is a full time job. I miss actual food. I’m feeling very depressed an awful lot of the time. I knew academically what I was getting in to, but the reality has been harder than I thought. My sister had the surgery too, about 4 years ago, so I know it gets better... it’s just... when? Lol. Thanks for the responses. It’s nice to know I’m not alone.
  7. I’m 13 days out from surgery but my surgeon started me on soft food at one week out. The first time it happened was with scrambled eggs (I thought). It lasted about 40 minutes and was so painful and awful that I tried to make myself throw up. I couldn’t. It happened again last night. I’m now thinking that it’s not the food (cause last night I was drinking my protein shake). I’m thinking it’s my big gel cap colace. This time it lasted 2 hours and it was AWFUL. Super painful, lots of “foam”, and this time my body was trying to make itself throw up. Guess that’s something I can’t do anymore. Racing heart, flushed skin, dizziness- This morning I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. I’m almost afraid to eat. I would do an awful lot to prevent that all from happening again.
  8. Hi everybody, Sorry I didn’t update sooner, I had a little bit of a harrowing experience. But... it’s done!!! The surgery is done!!!! Friday morning I was the second surgery of the day. While I was in pre-op I heard the nurse telling another nurse that they were diverting the rest of the days surgeries because of no more beds. I barely eeked through. And my heart goes out to those who were canceled on, I know that devastation and anguish. I woke up from a fairly quick surgery in a TON of pain. I had spine surgery this year, I had sterilization surgery last year, I’ve had meningitis, broken multiple bones and I’ve birthed two babies. This easily hurt more than all of that. I had iv pain management for about the first 12 hours, then was switched to oral tyelenol and norco. The second day, they noticed that my heart rate would spike every time I stood up and my blood pressure was dropping and they determined that I had a staple-line bleed. So, I needed a blood transfusion and they stopped the blood thinners that they give you to prevent clots and started me on vit k. Right around this time I started dry heaving (I had been nauseous since waking up), and I spent the entire night trying to vomit up whatever wasn’t actually in my stomach. The next day was better. My surgeon discontinued the norco because he wanted things to get moving and I was refusing oral tyelenol because I didn’t want to throw up. Even with absolutely no pain meds on board, the pain was SOOOOOOOOO much better. I was able to start eating my 1 oz portions. They kept me one more day because all of that blood that I bled had started to “pass”, don’t ask 🤢 and they wanted to check another blood count the next day. So this afternoon, after four nights in the hospital I got to come home!!! So, it was NOT an easy process, but I would absolutely do it all again. Now I’m just settling down to recover, hydrate, and learn a whole new relationship with food.

    Gastric Bypass Take 2?

Thank you! On my way to the hospital now!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I not going to get my hopes up until I wake up from anesthesia 😜
  10. I posted back in August about my surgery getting canceled because of a covid surge in my area. I was devastated and facing losing my insurance. As luck would have it, I got to keep my insurance another month and was rescheduled for tomorrow. I have been trying really hard not to get my hopes up, but I just had my pre-op appointment and so far everything is a go. I’m crossing every appendage I have that tomorrow goes off without a hitch. I’m supposed to check in at the hospital at 10 am.

I am with Kaiser. I will definitely call and try to find out. I really appreciate the suggestion!

    It happened- I got canceled

I had also done my covid testing & registration at the hospital. Literally all that was left was to go back for the procedure. It was heartbreaking. No beds. I called today to find out if they might know when they might be able to start rescheduling, and they just said no, we have to take it day by day. Not holding my breath.

They did say that they would schedule me back as soon as they could, that I’d be at the front of the line, since I was among the very first canceled. I’m not going to hold my breath, but I’m trying to maintain a little hope.

I’m in Southern California. My county is booming, so it’s a county-wide shut down. I really, really hope this doesn’t turn into a state-wide thing. It’s just so... frustratingly preventable?
