Queen Grandma replied to CRD1981's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the 27th. Just got my date yesterday. They had some OR time and sticking me in. I hadnt expected until maybe January. Was pushing back because I have a large family and nervous about making everything perfect for holidays. Started liquids today. Never realized how lovely chicken broth is. 10 days notice is fast, but i wish it were tomorrw now!! Get it over with. -
***October 2018 Sleeve Surgery***
Queen Grandma replied to kjallen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think I'll be an October Sleever also! I've got 3 phone visits with my nurse left, a second psychologist appointment and my surgeon appointment. I should be done late August. I've been preapproved, so it's really about setting a date at that time. I'm having some struggles thinking about going into the holiday season. Not because of the food restrictions, but more the activities. I also wait ALL year long to cook that blessed turkey dinner. It's just the cooking the dinner. But, I could put that dinner off until xmas and let my daughters/daughters-in-laws do Thanksgiving this year. I can also play it by ear and see what happens. But, as stated, I believe I'll be an October Sleever. Getting psyched, scared, terrified and I say all that with a big grin on my face. I'm doing this to help control my diabetes. good luck on your adventure! -

I'm wondering how long the process took- first appointment with doctor to the end. I've got my referral to the surgery center for my consults and stuff. I'm really motivated right now and afraid that as it gets further out, I might not be so anxious. I don't have a surgery date. Hoping end June-August. Wonder if that is to quick to expect. I'm a grandma of 7@ 53 years old. Would maybe like a barbaric buddy to get some feedback, be able to chat when I start feeling stressed. My kids (no husband) kinda support me. My boyfriend of 20 years likes my big butt. He's concerned he'll be with a different person, but he supports whatever I decide. I was diagnosed with "the diabeetis" as my kids call it about 3 years ago. I initially lost 60+ pounds. Still had another 40 to go. Said I would NEVER get back over 200 pounds, and here I sit. 219 on the scale this morning. My mom would like to see me just continue to diet. I'm exhausted with dieting and with diabetes management. I just want some help while I still qualify.

I'm thinking of getting a community garden in my neighborhood. I live in an apartment and miss gardening. Had plans to run to Farmer's Market in Saint Paul and get my plants this weekend. I'm so excited. I love heat and humidity so I'm anxious to get my hands and knees dirty!! My insurance and surgeon have said that the average wait time for surgery with them is 3-4 months. I just got all my paperwork in and am waiting for a first consult with a phone person. So, I'm thinking Late August-Early September for my surgery date. And you gardeners know that the big tomato and cucumber crops start coming in around that time. If I have someone to drive me to the community garden spot after surgery, how long will it be before I can move around enough to garden? Lots of stooping and grabbing. I'm considering waiting to do a garden til next year, or holding off a month or two for surgery? Thoughts.

You all are great. So much information here. I wish I could take a week off of work just to read it all. Thank you. I'll lean on you all!!

Thank you for your feedback. I think I'll go ahead and get the garden. The ground is prepped and I'm too late for peas and lettuce, but hopefully the tomatoes will come in so good I'll be sick of eating them! Like with anything I'm hearing, listen to your body. It'll tell me when to stop!

Wow, I was thinking I'd be out of work for 4 weeks. I'm a developer so subdued environment. I'm impressed, just don't overdo it and end up back at hospital.

Just worked with my Insurance folks as you all suggested. I'll have to meet with a phone counselor 5 times in the next 10 weeks. Plus a psychologist and nutritionist. She said it'll be about a 3-4 month process. So, I'm thinking late August to Late September.
