I also have Terry. I was surprised when I saw him. For some crazy reason I had it in my head that he was a she I am so relieved to hear about your experience. It is exactly what I hope to do. Before I saw your answer I had sent him the question too via email so we'll see what he says. He seems to be the most knowledgeable about the program of the people I have met so far. It will also take a bit longer for me to get to surgery because of the upper endoscopy. But on the positive side, I caught a break with the classes and I only have to take 3 of them because I did the Slim for Life at Anschutz this summer.

Anyone have Kaiser in Colorado? I can only find information about Kaiser in California and in Washington. Even on other boards I can only find people talking about Kaiser California. Aside from finding out what the clinical requirement/policy in CO is (or at least what was your experience) which is not available online, I really want to know if anyone has experienced any repercussions/denials/push backs because they asked too many questions the doctor's office didn't want to answer.

Has anyone used this app? I was searching for helpful apps and came across this one. It has really good ratings and seems like a good tool.

Resting Metabolic Rate Testing
CaribeRidge replied to brightfaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For now I would wait. You are not able to consume enough calories. A trainer would use your resting metabolic rate to calculate how many calories you burn without exercise to help you determine what is the optimal amount of calories for you to consume daily and lose weight. (or something like that) At this point this is pretty much predetermined by the surgery. -
I haven't had the surgery yet but going with the bypass. I have severe GERD with esophageal spasms and diabetes type 2 as well and the doc said that the bypass really was my only option. Dumping is a plus in my book. Another tool to keep me honest.

Staying accountable and emotional eating
CaribeRidge replied to SydneySleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have found that keeping a food log that you actually fill out through out the day keeps you honest. At first your stomach will likely keep you honest on its own but I found that seeing it written down added just enough of a guilty feeling to stay on track. Of course I also found that keeping such a log was a great big chore and the minute I stopped logging my foods I started eating poorly....yo yo... Now that I have finally joined the 21st century and got me a smart phone it will be easier to do than carrying a big sheet of paper around. -

I am also thyroid-less due to having had thyroid cancer. In order to suppress any thyroid cells from coming back they keep me "hyperthyroid". You'd think that would have helped me keep some weight off.. No I was not so lucky. Maybe its like you said synthetic hormone is never as good as the real thing. One word of advice which may or may not apply, but being on high levels of thyroid replacement hormone causes bone density loss. Since these surgeries can cause calcium deficiency, you young ones might want to keep a close eye on your calcium levels because you might be at higher risk of developing osteoporosis later on.

Gardein Meat-less
CaribeRidge replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For me specifically it is for a bit of variety there are good things in both animal and plant proteins. One important distinction for me is that animal proteins have more or at least some unhealthy fats and cholesterol. Personally I would likely go more for the meatless rather than the chicken-less. Costco sells their rotisserie chicken already shredded, boneless, skinless and of course already cooked in a big package and it is super yummy. My biggest falling off the wagon trigger is that I hate to cook for too long. When I want food I want it an hour ago so I reach for convenience foods and the rest is history. -

Male Facial Hair Loss Question
CaribeRidge replied to Syntax_Attack's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I am a girl, but do you mean that perhaps I could lose my facial hair instead of my head hair? That would be awesome!! Seriously though if you are concerned about that, you might want to start taking Biotin supplements right away. I am hoping if I have a good supply in my system prior to surgery I might not be as deficient of it as I would be otherwise and possibly stave off some of my hair loss. It is an experiment though. I don't know if that works and I have not seen anything online that says it helps. I do know it can't hurt. I have butt length hair and would also prefer not to lose a whole lot of it if I can avoid it at all. -
I am also worried about this. How much sleep do you actually get at the hospital after the surgery. I would like to bring my tablet with me and was thinking that when I sleep and I'm alone, I could just put it under the sheet and my legs. Think that might be feasible?
