Bariatric tracking app for windows
CaribeRidge posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been searching for an app that is tailored to bariatric patients. Something I can use to track nutrition intake and has a timer to remind me, etc. I hear Baristatic is the best but it not available on PC. Every app I see out there is for mobile phones. Does anyone have any suggestions? I did a search in the forums but did not find any suggestion for PC. -
January surgeries?!
CaribeRidge replied to jessicaalyssa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 1/22 and just today they let me go home. The surgery went well, the problem was that my heart rate was very high, my red blood cell count was really low, and my sugars also crashed. I also had a very large bruise at one of my incision sites that kept growing and growing. The main concern was that I might have an internal bleed. So they ran a cat scan and found no leaks inside of me. Eventually I tracked down the source of the bruise. One of the cna's gave me a heparin shot on the belly close to that incision right after surgery. Now I'm home having to test my blood pressure and sugars twice a day. In general, I feel pretty good considering I just has a RNY. I have gas pains but nothing that would make me scream. Walking helps a lot even though it is the last thing you want to do when you are in pain. I can swallow liquids fine. When I get up, it feels like my internal organs just drop to the bottom of my torso. It is a very weird sensation and it hurts too. I can't believe how happy I feel when I burp or fart! Never thought that farting would be anything to be proud of. At this point, I don't even care who is there😂 -
*Anyone have KAISER PERMANENTE??
CaribeRidge replied to tal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have Kaiser in Colorado. I am not sure if there are different coverages within it. But my experience was as follows: 1. I went to my PCP and we discussed bariatric surgery. 2. The PCP sent the referral to the Weight Loss Program. They contact me to make an appt. 3. On my 1st appointment I was approved and that was that. 4. However, there are some hoops you need to jump before the surgery is actually scheduled. You have to meet with a counselor a couple of times. You have to the pre-surgery classes. There might also be other tests you have to take depending on your health. I had an upper GI but I heard others had to have a sleep study. 5. Once you have completed all the things they ask you to do, you get to schedule the surgery. All in all my process took about 8 months but the timeframe was expanded by scheduling and having the upper GI and then waiting for the next classes to start, and the surgeon's schedule. -
January surgeries?!

Mine is tomorrow too. Today I am really hungry but I also did ok on the liver diet. This weekend I've been "nervous cleaning" Particularly during food commercials. I keep getting up and cleaning, sorting, organizing away. -

January surgeries?!
CaribeRidge replied to jessicaalyssa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you mean. I had my thyroid removed due to cancer in 2005 and for some reason I am more nervous this time that then. Maybe I am older and not necessarily wiser but just a bit more cowardly. It is the right move for me. So I am going through with it but I wish I could shake the nerves. Maybe part of it is this darn pre-surgery diet. -
January surgeries?!
CaribeRidge replied to jessicaalyssa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is on 1/22. I am so nervous but looking forward. It is the fear of complications or even dying. -
It is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2019 with Dr. John Raheb in Denver. I can't believe I have a date, finally. It has been so long coming and it is still 3 months away but I am on his schedule!! Woo Hooo!! My husband came with me to the doc appt and it meant so much to me to have his support. He asked the doc how much time he should take off work to be home with me after surgery and the doc said "oh she'll be able to take care of herself once she leaves the hospital" and proceeded to tell him all the things I will be able to do for myself. I wanted to tell him NO... just tell him I will need my every need taken care of. I will need lots of love and words of encouragement. He should massage my feet so they don't get swollen and maybe even do my nails. 😂🤣 But I bit my tongue cause I really don't know the doc and maybe he would not think it was funny. My sweet husband decided he would take a week off anyways just to be home with me. Gotta love that man. 💖

Scary spasm episodes. Related?
CaribeRidge replied to Didjit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like esophageal spasms. They feel like a heart attack. GERD causes it. I take omeprazole daily to prevent it. I also find that when I am having one, drinking a glass of cold water fast stops the spasm. -
Unexpectedly needing to care for yourself after surgery?
CaribeRidge replied to ChellNC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe go by Goodwill and see if you can get a real cheap walker. Not that you will need it but it might be helpful if one of you is in too much pain to walk around on your own or to get up and down from/on a chair. Better yet sign up on https://nextdoor.com/ and see if one of your neighbors might be able to lend you one for a little bit. If anything it might give a bit of peace of mind. -
wow, thanks. I did not realize that and I need my levothyroxine cause I don't have a thyroid at all.

I was talking to my husband about the judgement passed on people who have bariatric surgery. He is on the fence about the whole "easy way out" thing. But he is being supportive of me. So he tells me that when he thinks about the easy way out, he compares it to jumping off a plane. The easy way out would be when someone pries your fingers of the plane and pushes you out. That's the easy way out but the problem is that after that the is no getting back on the plane. So you are screaming all the way down hoping the parachute will open. My response was, think about it this way you are on a plane that has lost its engines. They tell you they are going to try landing it but chances are it will still be a crash landing and many on the plane will die. Or you can put on one of the parachutes and jump? So what do you choose? The plane is obesity. We know it is a killer. Some live long, normal lives while being obese, but the majority will get sick in various ways and die prematurely. If you jump, which is having the surgery, the parachute might not open but the chances of that are minimal. The parachute might open late and you will get seriously hurt, but you survive and end up living a long life. You might not land well because you don't know how to parachute and break your legs. But you still land and live. So which one do you choose? Stay on the plane and hope you survive the crash? Or jump and take the risks of jumping with the more likelihood of survival? It is a personal decision that only you can make for yourself. I choose to jump off the DAMN plane!!!! Because I am already on the plane and the only decisions you can make are jump or crash. The option to never get on the plane to begin with is long gone.

Being on the plane that's going to crash.
CaribeRidge replied to CaribeRidge's topic in Rants & Raves
The plane crashing is what will happen if you don't have the surgery. All the health issues that come up from being overweight is what happens if you don't have the surgery and stay on the plane. In all likelihood it's going to kill you sooner than later. Jumping off the plane with a parachute is having the surgery. It seems scary and the surgeon is the one who gives you the shove off the plane with the surgery. But the likelihood of survival longer is greater this way. Some people will say you took the easy way off the plane because someone pushed you out. But you still made the decision to put the parachute on (go with the surgery) and you still worked hard all the way down to make sure you made it. Both options are scary and there are risks involved in both. One is not "Easier than the other". -
Oh yes it's a big difference. Congrats and keep it up.

You know, this subject comes up a lot and I have heard it myself. People tell you, you are taking the easy way out. We all know that is not true. There is nothing easy about this process. If they are so convinced it's the easy way out nothing you say will change their mind (for the most part). So I am thinking... even if it was the easy way out, so what?? People take the easy way out all the time and they are not judged for it. Like having liposuction to get rid of a little extra fat instead of going to the gym and eating healthy. Like buying a lottery ticket to get rich quick instead of working hard to earn it. Like taking protein supplements and other muscle growth supplements to grow their muscles instead of gutting it out at the gym 3 hours a day or more to get the same results? Like buying pre-made meals instead of cooking fresh. Like having a facelift or other procedures to stay younger looking and reverse damage done to your skin when you were younger. Instead of taking good care of your skin from the get go, wash your face nightly, use moisturizers, apply sunblock, etc. So they'll say it is because of the risk of having such a major surgery. But again, so what?? is there no risk to going under the knife for plastic surgery? Is there no risk to taking supplements that are not tested or approved by the fda? Or even buying pre-cut fruits and veggies given all these salmonella cases? Sorry if I hijacked your rant with one of my own but it really struck a chord with me and made me really mad at your "friend" for being so mean and rude and downright emotionally abusive. Good for you for kicking them to the curve. With friends like that who needs enemies?

When I had mine they sent me home with a little machine that hooked up to me in various places and I was to sleep with it on. So it was a whole night but at home.

Good job! keep it up.

SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
CaribeRidge replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so happy for you! I know you have been fighting this for a long while now and it is finally, nearly here. You have a date! A DATE! with a nice surgeon. You will be just fine and soon enough all the senior ladies will be jealous of your new found hotness. You go girl! -
what kind of binder? Like the girdle types that only go around your waist and clasp in the front?

For some reason when I read that I thought you meant "veterinarian". My 1st thought was that you were going to talk about your pet.

How did I not realize this before?
CaribeRidge posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I always get ravenous right before bedtime. Binge eating ravenous.... It is my worst time of the day by far. I've been thinking a lot about what got me to this place, bad habits, motivations, addictions, etc. Trying to get my head straight before the surgery. I suddenly thought, I wonder if its my meds. When I had my upper endoscopy the subject came up of the time I take it vs the time I should be taking it. I take a bunch of meds for a variety of health issues. Nine to be exact. I take them all at the same time 7:30pm. So I looked up the side effects of all my meds and put them in a list. Turns out about half of them cause hunger. Say whaaat!! The other half cause sleepiness. Woohoo. So I split them up yesterday and lo and behold I wasn't ravenous right before bedtime and I slept like a baby.
