    1 Year and 105 pounds

Congrats! I'm 2 months out and hope I can brag also in 10 months time. I'm frustrated at the current moment (read my post, the one after yours). How were you able to lose so fast and so much?
  3. vkcse03

    what do you think??????

I totally understand! I wish I would lose my weight faster too but it's going so slowly. I just got my first fill last week and eating half the portion (1cup size) of what I was eating before and still only lost 1lbs this week!!UGH!! When I would work out I'm still not losing any weight? Am I eating too little calories? I know I don't eat that much and I dont snack so....I'm not sure why? The type of foods that I eat are not listed on dailyplate.com so it's hard to track the calories count.

    I need some advice

Boobar: Try drinking a cup of hot tea in the morning or .5 hour before you eat a meal. This has really helped me keep solid food down without that 'stuck' feeling. My band is usually very tight in the morning and once I have my hot tea, I'm good for the whole day. Try it and let me know if it helps you.
  5. You're on your way! Had my 1st fill last week and doc put in 6cc (I have a 14cc band). Had some problem w/ food getting stuck but today I was able to eat some slices of steak. Getting there....slowly but surely.
  6. Since getting my first fill I have been unable to swallow my One a day multivitamin. I've tired cutting it in half but most time it still get stuck. I'm not a big fan of the chewables but at this point it's better than getting the 'stuck' feeling...OUCH!

    Sweet spot or too tight??

Carla: I'm in the same situation w/ you and was also wondering if I should tough it through until the band loosen alittle or go in for an unfill. I got my first fill one wk ago. I got 6cc in a 14cc band. My dr and I talked and since I had little fat around my stoma he put in a little more than usual. I would have to drink a cup of hot tea in the morning for anything solid to go down. Some days are better than others. Last night I had 2 bite of fish and it got stuck, I then had to eat soup for dinner. It's frustrating at times. My question is...would the band loosen it self up after another week?

    Swelling after fill

Try drinking some hot tea in the morning or .5 hr before eating your meal. That should help loosen up your band. Since getting my first fill I have not been able to eating without food getting stuck but drinking a cup of tea in the morning helps. I feel like I have good restrictions and do not want to go get an unfill for fear of the dr taking too much and not losing weight.

First fill a week ago, so much pain!

Try drinking a cup of hot tea or coffee in the morning. Or if your food get stuck more than once a day, try drinking something hot half hour before you eat your meals. It really help loosen up the band so that food does not get stuck. I learn this from experience.

    Am I too tight?

I just got filled on Wednesday and been able to tolerate Soups and liquids but had a hard time eating meat today. It hurt so bad going down. I was actually praying to throw up...it was that painful. I read on one thread that if you drink something hot in the morning it loosen the band a little for you to tolerate meat and other foods. So today after my painful lunch, I drank a cup of tea before eating and I was able to swallow without pain...THANK GOODNESS!

    1st fill... and im happy!

I also got my first fill yesterday and it was painless. Less pain then even a flu shot. My doc had me lay down and do a stomach crunch to locate the port. He was going to put in 4cc (i have a 12cc band) but I asked for more since I've not had any problem eating, chewing, etc. He agreed but would not go more than 6cc on the first fill, which was fine. So doc injected 4cc and had me drink water...felt normal...everything fine. He left the needle in me, which felt weird. He then put another 1cc in...drank water...everything felt fine. Finally, he put in another 1cc (6cc total) and as soon as I took the first sip, I felt like I really needed to burp but couldn't. I feel good today, good restriction so far. Talk to your doctor and work with him/her, so that you don't end up wasting your time going to and from the dr's office.
  13. Chin up! I know how you feel. I'm also self pay and feel like i should already be losing 10-20 lbs already. That's great that you already have your first fill. You are on your way. I was band on 6/6/08 and only had my first fill yesterday. Today I've only feel some restriction. I was not put on a pre-op diet so so far I've only lost 10lbs since being banded and 4 of those pounds were lost only because I got the flu:-). I know I've read so many blogs about people losing weight so quickly but it'll take time. How much did your doc fill you with on your first fill?
  14. vkcse03

    2nd fill

I just had my first fill today. I had to wait 6 weeks post-op before my first fill and started feeling hungry only after 2 wks post op. I was in 'bandster hell' for the longest time! For my doc, the standard 1st fill was 4cc but I asked if he can give me more since I've had no problems w/ food or eating (my appetite was the same as before). He injected 4cc then left the needle in so that I can drink some water. I had no problem drinking the water. He then put in another 1cc, still no problem keeping the water down. Finally, he put in another 1cc, as soon as I swallowed the water I could feel like I really needed to burp but could not. My band holds a max of 12 cc so I'm already half way there. I feel good so far aside from feeling like I really want to burp but cant. I've read somewhere that it takes a wk or two for you to feel the restriction, so I hope that it won't be too tight next week. Doc told me that if I feel no restriction I can come back in 4-6 weeks.
  15. I started w/ a BMI of 34 and after losing 10lbs some people noticed a difference. My clothes fit a littler better too!:-)

    Tears on my pillow

Chin up. I'm also self pay and had a BMI of 34 so I did not have to do the pre-op diet (which I was really happy about) too. I was banded on June 6th and only lost 7 lbs so far:cursing: All the weight that I lost was during the first 2 weeks. Once I started on the mushie stage, I gained back 2lbs. I have no restriction at all and can eat like I did before the band. I'm excersing real will power right now otherwise I'll gain back all the lbs that I've lost so far. I also feel really discourage right now too when I'm reading all the post of people losing 20-30 lbs during the first 4 weeks:cursing::blushing: and feel like I'm doing something wrong. I've even been excersing 2-3 times a wk and still no additional weight loss. My first fill won't be until mid-july so I'm just waiting around and getting stressed at not being able to lose more weight.
  17. Hello there! I'm currently in bandster hell and waiting for my first fill (mid July). My problem is that I cannot keep an accurate count of my calorie intake. I'm Asian and the foods that I eat is not listed anywhere on the web so that makes it very hard to know who much calories I'm taking in daily. Somedays I'll lose 2 lbs then the next gain 3 lbs:cursing: So I've just been eating sensible and limiting my food intake...using sheer will power. Some days though I feel that I'm not getting in enough calories. Anyone have this problem? Any advice?
  18. Mine is placed about 2 inches below my left breast bra line. It was very uncomfortable at first (I'm 40DD) but it's not so bad now. It's not right under my boob but close enough that it can get uncomfortable when I'm sitting. See how you feel in another wk or two before having it corrected. I think I would rather live w/ the discomfort then go into surgery again!

    Fills

I have to wait 6 weeks to get my first fill!! I'm 3 weeks post op and can eat reguarly and dont' even feel the band anymore. It's very frustrating to wait that long. I'm in bandster hell.
  20. Hello All! I'm feeling discouraged. I'm 10 days post-op. I've lost 9-10lbs on the clear liquid phase but now that I'm in the thicken liquid/mushie phase, I'm starting to gain the weight back (gained 3lbs over the weekend). I've been keeping my calorie intake to under 1000 but still gained weight? Any suggestions?
  21. Thanks guys! Glad I'm not alone. I've been feeling like I'm starving myself and working out too but still gaining weight. Barbara9460: Thanks for the quick calorie cout lesson. I did not know that if I eat 800 calories...etc. It's just so hard to do a calorie count since most of the things that I eat are not listed anywhere on the internet (dailyplate.com, etc). I'm Asian so many things I eat and make will not be listed. Also, our main staple are rices, starches, carbs, etc! So frustrating!

    Was banded on Monday and

I feel your pain. I'm only 8 day post op and today I was really, really bad. I'm only suppose to be on thicken liquid stage. I had family from out of town to visit and we went out to eat twice today and I did have some Pho (more broth only 4 bite of noodles). Then 4 bites of chicken, then one crab cake (not in one sitting...spread through out the day). I felt so bad afterwards that I went straight to the treadmill. I tolerated the food well. This is my major weakness...social eating.
  23. I was told that I could swallow any size pill. I was also told that if I wanted to crush the pills then I could put them in some apple sauce.
  24. Hippichick: That is so great that you're out and on the road to recovery. Good Luck!

    1st day at home

Yea, while in the hospial I was getting the IV and have to force myself to take 1 or 3 sipp of the chk broth and min maid juice. I'm 5 days post-op and find that if I drink cystal light it goes down better than water. They only thing with crystal light is that it leave a bad aftertaste. Oh well, at least I'm getting fluids.
