How do you tells others about your transformations.
madscientistmommy replied to JessiG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started a new job about 3 months before I had surgery. Told my boss and HR and 1 trusted coworker what I was doing. No one noticed or said anything about my weight loss until I lost well over 50 lbs, more like 65 lbs before they said anything to me. The HR head actually asked to see an old picture of me because she couldn’t remember what I looked like before. It’s been really easy. Someone who was overweight asked me and I took her aside and told her what I did. Everyone else I told that I had a health issue and had to lose weight (true) so I was doing high protein small portions. My cover story was gallbladder surgery. -
My program says no coffee for 6 months, no alcohol for 1year. Honestly, I miss the coffee more than the booze (and I was a pretty big drinker). It’s totally worth it though. I started having the occasional regular tea at about 2 months.

I am starting to slow down too. I find if I do a little bit of exercise it makes a tremendous difference. I like biking-find something you enjoy. And don’t compare yourself to others-we are all on our own journey. If you feel like you need some advice on food choices, ask your programs nutritionist. Good luck!!!

When could you drink coffee again?—Sleepy in Seattle
madscientistmommy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there, We all seem to have very different guidelines for what we should eat and when. My program says no coffee for 6 months and no alcohol for 1 year. I’m doing ok with no carbs and no drinking. I am really struggling with no coffee and I feel it is actually affecting my focus and productivity at work. What does your program say about coffee? Thanks! (Not in Seattle, but couldn’t resist the title!) -
My husband, who is a totally awesome guy says my boobs look great and still are still big in proportion to me. He’s a liar and I love him. After nursing 2 kids for a year plus each and now losing almost 70 lbs, I have a pair of 38 longs.

When could you drink coffee again?—Sleepy in Seattle

Thanks everyone! It does seem like the dehydration is the main concern. I had a cup of real tea today and I felt so much more productive. I’m going to stick with that for another couple of weeks is I can and then switch to coffee. It always did bother my stomach a bit, so I want to be careful. I’m going to try and avoid alcohol for a year if I can. I always eat too much when I drink and the worst foods-chips and crackers and chocolate. -
You look fantastic! My boobs have shrank so much too. My daughter saw me changing and said “ummm, mom, I don’t want to be mean, but, ummm, are your boobs smaller?”

I think some of my doctor’s concern was the stomach acid from drinking coffee and the extra calories of cream and sugar in it. The reason I’m asking is to get a sense of consensus, it’s still a new procedure and each program is different. I think my program is excellent and my doctors are doing their best to make sure I’m successful. But I am thinking of drinking coffee sooner than 6 months and trying to decide when I can start. I miss my nespresso soooo much. -

Need advice and encouragement not ripped apart

I’m only two months out, but it seems like most people have a rough period at some point where you fall off the wagon. The successful people deal with that failure and start trying again. You’ve had this experience early, but you’ve also realized that you need to work at it. You can do this. -
I have had terrible problems with constipation. I take 2 stool softeners a day and then take milk of magnesia occasionally. I’m now going to try miralax almost every day. I’m about 8 weeeks our.

All the programs are very very different for what foods they suggest. I’m at 2 months postop and I’m at about 400-700 calories every day and losing about 2.5-3.5 lbs a week. How far is this person from goal weight? Have they lost a great deal already? They might be at a stall. Snacking seems like a not great idea TBH. Maybe increase water and exercise?

I got my gastric sleeve on 5/9/18. Things are going great-I’m down 60 lbs total from my pre-surgery and post surgery loss. I noticed that I have lost some arm hair (good) and now eyebrow hair too (bad). My head hair has been thinning for many years and I was really worried about that getting worse. Somehow, I haven’t lost that hair. Has this happened to anyone else? Did your eyebrows grow back? Do I need to add eyebrow tattoos to my list of post surgery cosmetic procedures?!?!!? Thanks! Losing my eyebrows?!?!!
madscientistmommy replied to madscientistmommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will definitely wait a year before I do anything. I hope they come back! Thanks! -
I am 56 days out from my sleeve and I’ve been doing really well. In addition to the 59 pounds I’ve lost (before and after surgery), I seem to be losing my arm hair (good) and eyebrows (not good). Did anyone else have this happen? Did they grow back? Should I add eyebrow tattoos to my list of post surgery cosmetic procedures? My head hair has been thinning for some time and I was expecting to lose that, but I haven’t noticed that yet. Thanks! SW 255 Sx 234 Current 196 Goal 150

Calories on full liquid? Puree?
madscientistmommy replied to Gumdropmountains's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Every program is different. I was between 200-500 calories on the purée stage. My program didn’t have me count calories though. I just know because I was logging the food. -

Hope you feel better soon! Keep us updated. -
I know that every program is different and you should follow your surgeons directives. My program had me take 2 Oz meals-2 Oz of protein shake, or applesauce or soup or hummus. And 36 Oz of water. They say to choose high protein things, but we don’t start tracking our protein until 3 months. I’m 50 days out and at about 30-40 g or protein a day.

July 2017 Sleevers
madscientistmommy replied to PrayingForWeightLoss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That’s wonderful, congratulations!!! -
That would not remove the hunger hormones the same way the sleeve does though.

Matt-my clinic, Newton Wellesley dies not offer the band. They feel it fails the patient. They say at the new patient seminar that it is really hard because it doesn’t remove the hunger, and that isn’t long term successful. I’m sorry you had a long road and I hope the bypass is more successful for you!!
