"We don't think you're a good candidate for WLS at this time" ....Should I seek a 2nd opinion?
madscientistmommy replied to Dryad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go somewhere else. That sounds very different from my experience. You deserve a better clinic. Good luck!! -
I lost 100 lbs very easily by about Nov last year after my sleeve. I’ve been stuck and going up and down about 5 lbs. I was 255 at highest, 234 at surgery and I’m 156 today. I want to hit 150, where I won’t be overweight. The holidays and then work stress didn’t help me with overeating at night and drinking wine. Wine is terrible for me and I am having a hard time to give it up. I have to find a better way to deal with my stress and can’t fall back to old habits. It’s been wonderful but it’s just a tool-now I have to do the hard work!

I had the same thing-I can’t wear curvy fit anymore. I have no ass. My ass used to get cold because it was an extremity. I’ve been doing squats to try and get a butt again. 😀

Getting back on track
madscientistmommy replied to johnsons13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day by day. I’m glad you are going to see your doctor. I hope they can give you some advice. I am meeting with a nutritionist on my own to make sure I stay on track. Hang in there. You can do this. I think many people have some gain back or stalls. Don’t feel like a failure, it’s part of the learning process. I have learned how easy it is for me to eat my way around my sleeve if I’m not careful. I have to be thoughtful about everything I eat or drink. -
Getting back on track

How are you doing? I gained back a few pounds over the holidays and I’m working to get back on track. I’m down a few since Jan 1st. About 4 lbs over my lowest post surgery and 10 lbs from goal. -

I haven’t traveled much post surgery, but when I did, I packed up so much food for the airplane and the hotel room. I threw a lot away and I brought a lot back. -
Took my 9 yo son and a friend to the park. I was flying a kite and one of his friends was there, so I let him hold the kite. His dad came over and was kind of unfriendly and told him to come with him. Realized when I went home that he didn’t recognize me with my 100 lb weight loss since spring baseball. He thought some weird stranger was hanging with his son! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for this! I am up over the holidays-7 lbs. lost 2 lbs today, and want to lose another 10 to be at goal, which will be 110 lbs down from highest weight. I am purging the house of sweets post holiday and I’m going to do a dry January. Had a few cocktails and glasses of wine over the holidays. -
How long does hair loss last?
madscientistmommy replied to newmeinfla's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My hair was thinning before hand, so my hair loss was pretty brutal. I was taking 10,000 U of biotin and also lysine. I started getting iron infusions and I think being anemic was part of my hair loss. It started at 3 months and by 4-5 months it was bad. BAAAAADDD. I cut my hair short and do sort of a comb over from the back (very subtle). When I went in at 6 months for a cut, my hair dresser said I had lots of baby hairs. I will never have the hair I did when I was 18, but that’s ok. Look up tellogum effluvium. When the hairs fall out it’s because new ones are coming in. -
I was also hungry. I was able to eat peanut butter and hummus about a week after surgery and those were thick enough to make me feel full. I just want to give you some emotional support. I was freaking out that I was hungry and the surgery wouldn’t work for me. I felt full as soon as I could eat firmer things. I have to be careful with sliders. I have lost just over 100 lbs in 7 months. Stay strong! You got this!

How much weight will we expect to lose? Gastric Sleeve
madscientistmommy replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 48, 5’5” and I was 255 lbs at my highest. I lost 21 lbs before surgery on May 9, 2018 and I am now around 153, give or take a lb. I want to get to 145 but I was slowed down by a bum knee and also the holidays. My surgeon just said I am a super responder, so I think I have lost more than most. -

Slipping back to old habits - scared

I love the suggestion of a next big goal. I am within 10 lbs of goal and I’m struggling to get there. I am missing that high of losing weight every time I get on the scale. Maybe you could make a fitness goal? -
Food funerals?
madscientistmommy replied to mousecat88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 7 months post op and 99 lbs down. I have eaten chips, candy, ice cream and I even had a glass of wine on my anniversary. I do struggle with eating some things too much (chips, Halloween candy). I don’t really enjoy drinking anymore, so that’s been easy. I have been giving myself permission to throw away the extra of trigger foods. It would be very easy to keep eating a handful of chips. Every 15 minutes. Until the bag is done. But I also don’t want to say I will never have bread or chips ever again. It will always be a struggle for me, but it’s so much easier now. -

Lovely!!!! 🙌 -
I flew on an airplane and instead of nearly needing an extender, I had to tighten the belt down. 93 lbs down since April! Only downside was getting pat downs because of my stomach hanging down. Need to get a tummy tuck next year.

I guess I’m regretting a little...
madscientistmommy replied to susunorm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are fresh out of it! I am about 4.5 months out and I’ve lost 89 lbs. 16 to go to goal weight! I only regret not doing it earlier. You will have plateaus and bumps, but keep doing the program. I know longer have sleep apnea, plantar fasciitis, and my kidney function has improved. The first month is the hardest. I just went out for my anniversary and I had steak and king crab and a little dessert (and a cocktail!). you will enjoy food again. -
Opinions on Aria scale-Looking for a good digital scale!
madscientistmommy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello! My scale died recently and I bought the WW Wi-Fi scale and I hate it. I feel like it bounces around a lot and it doesn’t sync directly with my iPhone health app. I have to connect to the scale every time I use it or my weight isn’t recorded. Do you have a digital scale that you can use an iPhone with that you love? Preferably one that tells you body fat and such? Have you used the Aria? Was it good? Thanks everyone! -

You are really still healing, and even stopping nursing is a mess. I was a hormonal wreck and I nursed for a year. I was a hot mess the first month after delivering. Eat healthy food and take the baby for walks in the stroller. Don’t beat yourself up. You just had a baby!! You can do this.
