  1. Hopefully he is ok but you can manage. I came home after 2 nights in but I would have been ok (not awesome, but manageable). I had 2 small kids at home who I got a sitter for but while my husb was at work I took care of myself fine. You'll be up and around, obv would be great to have someone to get you things but you'll be able to manage. Good luck!
  2. I am just telling people 'Its hard, but I'm eating a lot less", not that that's all there is to it but its true and mainly b/c in the past when I lost weight, everyone hated that answer so it shut them right up. People want to hear you did something special but not usually that it's something they could already be doing themselves

    Gastric Bypass-No Weight Lost

Mine was slow-ish also but it will happen. There's a lot of bloating, gas, and constipation that could be to blame. Try not to focus on the weight loss right now-look at how little you're eating now, it will show up on the scale eventually. Hang in there
  4. A thin slice of frittata/8 wks out
  5. I've had 2 c-sections which I tolerated well and this (bypass) was nothing compared to that. I was sore but not excruciating-the hardest thing is getting up the 1st time when you don't know how much it will hurt. But walking is the best way to get on w/your recovery! It was slow going and grabbing onto the nurses hand to get up, but not horrible. Obviously everyone is different but being realistic and expecting some pain hopefully means you'll pleasantly surprise yourself. Be honest about your pain scale and speak up if the meds aren't helping. Good luck!

    Needing Support

I struggled w/the liquid also. Its rough! The popsicles helped and also (I'm not sure this is allowed but...) I wanted the taste of something I knew I liked. I loved Campbell's soup. So I ate (drank?) the liquid out of campbells soup and it was delicious! Hope this helps but def ask your dr for more suggestions. I can only say this being through the hard part but it is so worth it. Hang in there
  7. Hi everyone, I 'checked in' w/my doc office today to see if they'd heard from my insurance company, they said they'd been trying to call me b/c they want to schedule my survey for July 3! (It's June 22! Not sure if my vm was full or what?!) I mentioned I have a fatty liver and asked, don't I need the 2 week diet (their 2 week diet), they said a week should be fine. So....tell me what to do and buy and for how long I should have a sitter watch my kids afterward and are there any decent sized vitamins out there that I can actually swallow, and any other advice? I was picturing being told my date was 3-4 weeks away, I'd eat a few of my favorite meals, have my last margarita and diet coke, but I guess I am on shakes starting asap! Thanks in advice for any info and advice!
  8. I think people think they are being helpful and since it's (usually) meant to be complimentary, they lose sight of how it is still a very private topic to put you on the spot about. I would (and when it's me, I will) have a few stock responses ready to re-direct the conversation. Just bounce a question back about themselves or something more general like "I cook at home a lot more, do you like to cook?" Hope that helps. And congratulations
  9. Hi, I'm expecting to be a late June/early July bypass. My PCP just has to send note from my 6th visit and then wait for approval and a date. I'm having it done by Krikhely st Columbia Presbyterian in NYC. I think I'm more nervous about the 2 week pre-than the post diet? I have had 2 c-secs and I hear this recovery is easier which is what's reassuring to me. I have a very bumpy couple of weeks ahead as my mom just went into a hospice. Obviously that's horrible but since I haven't told anyone in my family (other than my husband) that I'm having the surgery, I have been worried these events would be much closer together which fortunately I think they will be spaced far enough apart. I'm very eager for the next stage of my life but also at times I think "Holy crap, under a month left?!" Good luck to everyone else, looking forward to being in touch with others in a similar schedule

    3 Days post op!

That's encouraging! Glad to hear you're doing so well
  11. Thank you both, SO much! Yoyogirl, today?! OMG glad to hear how well you feel and I hope it just continues from there. I really appreciate your reply from the recovery room! Cammarays, good luck on Friday! Hope the pre-surg diet is going well. I'd love to hear more (all!) you have to share when you're ready to share the whole Columbia experience. I've had a few surgeries there and all have gone well so thats reassuring Thank you both so much and keep up the great work on your journeys!
  12. Hi everyone, I am at the point where after six monthly of visits with my doctor, all of the required tests etc I can meet with "the surgeon". I'm having gastric bypass at Columbia Pres in NYC around late June/early July (I think!). I didn't realize I would get to choose which doctor but I called to make the appointment and they asked who I wanted. I have no idea. It's between Dr. Bessler and Dr. Krikhely, both are available before June 5 for the office visit. Has anyone had a great or not experience with either of them that they'd be willing to share? Thank you!
