    Had surgery today

Wooo! Congrats and good luck with your recovery!!!
  2. So I’m 28 days post op and my weight has been stuck on 287-289lbs and it’s driving me crazy. I was 316lbs on the day of surgery. I know that the stall is inevitable but the fear in my head is concerned that I’m screwing up somehow. I haven’t been getting the proper amount of proteins in as I’m so sick of the premier protein drinks but I will try harder. My calories are usually at 450 (without the protein drinks). I miss some of my vitamins on occasion. I’m a single mom to two young boys so although I try to cook everything from scratch, I don’t get to do that all the time because that would mean cooking two separate dinners! I have gone to Farm Boy and Whole Foods where they had some healthy alternatives but they are frozen. It has low fat and super low sugar. Do I need to worry about carb or sodium or calories or is it enough that I make sure it’s low fat and sugar? From the info book I got from my surgeon, they only specify the fat and sugar content but I feel like maybe that’s why I’m not losing right now? I’m just so scared to mess this up. I also don’t feel full a lot of the times so I’m paranoid of stretching my pouch. I have been tolerating almost everything so I want to make sure that I’m making the right choices. For exercise, I have been walking daily. I also started a kickboxing class but was then told by my surgeon team that it was not allowed until 6-8 wks post op! I didn’t know and was doing sit-ups and stuff...so I’m scared there are other things that I’m doing wrong. Any help would be much appreciated!

    High blood sugar .. still

My sugar levels went to “normal” range the day after surgery and I haven’t needed the meds since. It’s been almost one month. There has even been a few instances where I had low blood sugar and had to take dex4 pills. I’m sure you just need to give your body some time. My blood pressure isn’t fully in control yet and I still need meds 20% of the days. Good luck!

    Hypoglycemia

So the same day that I responded to this post, I had another episode! I just didn’t realize that my symptoms were because of low blood sugars. When I got home from my son’s soccer game, it was pretty late and I had not eaten yet. I found it hard to read my texts on my phone and it was tough to focus. It was like staring at a flashlight and then looking away and trying to read a book after. It lasted for 30 min before I thought to check my levels and low and behold...low sugar reading. I popped four Dex4 pills and 15 min later, I was back to normal. It was super scary because I had no idea what was wrong with me. I almost went to the hospital because I was so freaked out.

    Hypoglycemia

I had it a few days after surgery. I had no idea what was going on except for the fact that I was super dizzy, lethargic, and had a killer headache. It got to the point where I couldn't walk and all i wanted to do was lay my head down and sleep. Thank goodness I checked my blood sugar levels and it was below 4.0 so I ate 4 Dex4 (glucose pills) and I was good afterwards. I now carry them with me everywhere I go. Since then, I have experienced closed to low sugars (reading at 4.1- 4.5) but haven't had it go below again. The Dex4 works for me but I know other people drink juice or eat lifesavers....I just don't want the temptation of drinking sugary drinks which l LOVED before WLS. Good Luck!

    Struggling!!!

Hey! Don't worry, I felt the same way and questioned my decision to undergo gastric bypass a few days after my surgery. I cried and all I wanted to do was sleep. It does get better. Vent on these forums...the members are great and we have all been there. Just remember why you chose to do WLS in the first place and you will be fine. Good luck! Message me anytime
  7. So true! I think the repetition of any foods become tiresome after a while. I’m still loving my purees right now but I’m only on day 3 so I’m sure it will start to suck any day now! Lol
  8. Man, I would have loved to start purees right away!!! I was instructed to have full liquids for two weeks which is thankfully over now!!!!!

    Is this okay?

UPDATE: so....I had the chicken hot dogs for dinner today and it went down fine. It was pretty yummy although I did notice the salt. Definitely will only be used once in a while but it’s nice to know that I can have a hotdog when the fam is doing their bbq!
  10. Hi guys! I just bought some Life Choice “healthy” chicken hotdogs that are made out of chicken breast and thighs. The fat and sugar was below what I’m allowed to eat so I was wondering if it was okay? I attached a pic so you guys can see. I’m clearly confused lol. Thanks in advance.

    Is this okay?

Thanks! That’s what I was hoping for...I figured the meat would be softer and easier to mush up and go down

    Is this okay?

I’m in Canada so we don’t have Sam’s (*tear) but maybe I will find some at Costco. I just thought these were a good alternative to chicken or turkey breast as I figured they may be too fibrous for me to handle right now!

    Is this okay?

Thanks for your help! I hope it tastes good...it was triple the price of regular hotdogs! Lol.
  14. Thanks for all of your responses! It’s just so confusing sometimes and I don’t want to eat something that I’m not supposed to!
  15. Lip balm and cell phone charger for the hospital. A good water bottle and a big loose tshirt/night gown for at home. I did NOT want to put on pants lol and love LOVED (and still do) the comfort of night shirts
  16. Kozy Shack makes the most delicious pre packaged sugar free puddings. They gave it to me at the hospital and I bought the different flavours when I got home. Taste better than jello brand.

In what way have you changed?

I’m only 9 days post op but have lost 44lbs since my initial appointment (13lbs since surgery) So much has changed for me in such a short time period.... I ran down the stairs today when before I used to do the side shuffle...one leg at a time and super slowly. I didn’t even realize and everyone just stared at me with their mouths open! I played basketball, catch, and soccer with my two sons (age 5 and 7) today and they were so happy! They kept saying how fun it was to be playing with me and how they have never seen me run before. I never realized how much I was missing out because I always sat on the sidelines watching them play instead of participating. I wasn’t out of breath and had more energy than I can ever remember having. I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store for me...it’s gonna be a great summer :)
  18. I’m so glad you figured out what was going on with you. I will be calling my surgeons office today. It’s hard to get things done with this annoying headache. Great job on your weight loss so far! 20lbs is a lot to lose in 2 weeks!!!
  19. So yesterday I woke up to a raging headache that only got worse as the day went on. I was dizzy and had no energy. I was so lethargic and thought something was really wrong. I could barely walk. It wasn’t until dinner time that I thought to check my sugar levels (I have diabetes 2 but stopped my meds after surgery). I had a low blood sugar reading at 4.0. I gave myself the dex chewables and it increased my levels to 5.0. Today my headache returned mid afternoon. Now as it’s nighttime, it has only gotten worse. My blood sugar tested at 5.1 so I’m not sure why I have this annoying headache. Does anyone else get headaches and what do you do? I tried crushing the Tylenol into pudding and applesauce but it’s too bitter so I don’t take anything to relieve it. I’m more concerned on why this is happening. I’m 7 days post op.
  20. You may be right. I haven’t been drinking as much water as I should...I’m on day 3 of this headache! I will call my surgeon today. Thanks! You always answer my million questions and I appreciate that so much
  21. Hey guys! I am super grateful for the surgery and the opportunity to get my life back but today I just feel sad for some reason. I have been moody and emotional (poor kids lol). I starting questioning if I did the right thing or if I made a mistake with the surgery. I was feeling sad that I would never be able to eat certain things again and almost bitter. I know it’s these foods that got me to 340lbs in the first place but I always thought that I could have everything back but just in much smaller portions. I’m not even talking about junk food or soda or anything like that. Good riddance to those things. I feel like I’m never gonna be able to eat my mom’s special dishes again or my Vietnamese food or just regular meals again. I end up feeling more depressed because then I feel ungrateful and like a complainer. Geez I just need to get my crap together! I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening

    No Longer Overweight!

Thanks. I’m very curious about the dumping thing since I’m new at this.

    May 2018 losers bench

You dropped a lot of weight already! That’s awesome. The hospital gave me cottage cheese the day after my surgery so I have been eating it daily since then. I’m only 6 days post op. Now I’m wondering if I wasn’t supposed to eat it???

    Little Green getting little(r)

That looks so good! Do you have a recipe for the beans or hummus? I’m trying to plan for my move to puréed in a week lol
  25. I was given cottage cheese from the hospital the day after my surgery! I have eaten it every day so far since then (5days) and have had no problems with it
