    Soup question

Following! Great question. I have often wondered this myself. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Congratulations to both of you! What a great team. I can't believe you've list 50 pounds in only one month!! Keep up the great work! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I agree. I usually drink some time before eating, and I imagine it runs right through my pouch, so I don't worry about it. I definitely do not drink during eating or for 30 minutes after. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Just had to share - got on the scale this morning, and I am no longer obese! I went from being extremely obese at a BMI of 43 to just being overweight today! 32 pounds to go until I'm "normal"!!
  5. I'm using my own goal, and a healthy weight I weighed for most of my adult life before I ballooned up! lol. My surgeon's group has a more conservative goal of 15-20 pounds more. We'll see what my body and metabolism have to say on the matter! I'm remaining flexible. Only 4.5 months post bypass, so we'll see!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    No longer "obese"!!!

Thanks, everyone! I'm soooo happy! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. You'll be in some pain from the surgery, but they should give you pain meds to help with that. The surgical pain is not enough to prevent you from being able to walk. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hi. I took off 4 weeks for my gastric bypass, but could have returned after 3 weeks. I was still napping in the afternoon. I also have a desk job, and I just told work I was having "surgery" and didn't say what kind. I think 2 weeks would be pushing it, but there are hardy folks on here who have taken less time than that. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Well, first of all, so sorry you sprained your ankle! I did thar a few years ago and know how painful it is. As for walking after surgery, are you asking how much walking you'll have to do on your sprained ankle? You will likely get up every hour and make a few laps around the hospital floor. This is important and not optional. Then once you're home, you will be expected to walk as much as possible. For me this started out at 10-15 minute walks 2 times a day, and then increased as I could tolerate it. Maybe wrap your ankle for support, and go slow. Best wishes both for healing up your ankle and for your upcoming surgery! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Doubting my decision

Hi. Complications like a leak are not common. Both the bypass and sleeve have that as a remote possibility, but it doesn't happen very often. On the other hand, the complications that come with being morbidly obese are much more common!! Don't let your friend's experience cloud your judgment. I had gastric bypass 4.5 months ago and am off all diabetes meds, almost off blood pressure meds, no longer have constant body pain, and am healthier and happier. Have a positive attitude going into this, pick your surgeon well, and it is more likely than not that you won't have major complications! Good luck to you! Sweat more daily

No. I hardly ever sweat now inless I'm working out at the gym. When I was heavier, it didn't take much to make me sweat. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. No, you're probably fine. But ask yourself WHY you chose to drink directly after eating...it can flush the food out of your pouch causing you to be able to eat more. It's really only an issue once you're on more solid food. I seriously doubt you did any damage, or stretched your pouch. But you should get in the habit of setting a timer on your phone and waiting 1/2 hour minimum to drink after eating. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    medication after surgery

Hi. I had the same concern about my antidepressants. I was takinf Effexor XR, extended release, and my doc switched me to immediate release before surgery. Worked ok for 3 months, but I was having to take them 3 times a day, which was a drag. Then they stopped being absorbed (I knew because I got withdrawal symptoms). So I had to crush them. You can't crush extended release, only immediate release. I got tired of taking Effexor 3 times a day, so Im in the process of switching to liquid Prozac. Once a day, and so far, so good. Work with your psychiatrist, and be patient. The process takes a while. Good luck!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. Awesome, Chiptress! When is your surgery scheduled for now? Things will only get better for you!! Keep us posted. We care. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

I chose bypass, and I'm very happy with that choice. Complications can happen with either surgery. I only wanted to do this once, and chose bypass because I thought it gave me, personally, the best shot at success. There are tons of very successful sleevers, though. Ultimately go with your gut! (Pun intended!) Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. You and I have almost identical stats. I'm 5'3" and weighed 239 on surgery day. I, too, hurt all over. Couldn't walk without pain, and sweating. Knees hurt all the time, etc. It does get much better, and quickly!! I now weigh 172 at 4.5 months post op, and I feel awesome! I have no pain, and this summer heat doesn't bother me. I can go up and down a flight of stairs with no pain. Have faith, soon you will be feeling much better. You hot this. Hang in there Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Any foods permanently off your safe list?

My surgeon suggests no crunchy, crispy, cakey, carby things! As for never- sugar, carbonated beverages. Restrict rice, potatoes, bread. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Protein Powder question

My surgeon gave me a 2 page list of recommended protein shakes/powders. I mix mine with almond milk NOT water, which I think tastes gross. I use Unjury, and Syntrax Nectar. The second one I get on Amazon. Unjury I buy directly from the company. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight loss post surgery

Me, too! It actually took me a week or longer to get back to day-of-surgery weight. Hang in there and try not to be discouraged. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Am I just a giant baby?

Ah! I thought you were Post-op! Yes, the pre-op diet was really tough! I wasn't totally on liquids though. I had a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, then something like steamed broccoli and chicken for dinner. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Am I just a giant baby?

Did the powerade have sugar? What happened at Target sounds awful! I'm sorry. [emoji31] It does get better once you can eat yogurt and things of that thickness. Try and distract yourself, I guess, and hang in there! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Bypass or Sleeve

I had reflux prior to my bypass, and my surgeon wouldn't do the sleeve on me because of it. I'm a little surprised that your doctors would recommend the sleeve! Why do they think it is "better"? Both surgeries are good, just different, and sometimes people just aren't good candidates for one or the other. Maybe check out a different surgeon???
